Mother’s Day Release 5/14/2023
Happy Mother’s Day! Instead of a Saturday Songs of the Week release this time around, the release was pushed one day for celebrating Mother’s Day. We’ve got a skill token and a new musician as well in this entertaining release.

For those that have been following the leaderboards the past couple of weeks, you may have noticed that TristanJacob9 got FFR Rank #1 on April 28th with Lv.107 73%. At the time, the Top 3 was within 50% of each other in Lv.107 (with AnMaO in 2nd and Matthia in 3rd).

Welcome to the first song release of May! We’re cooling down from the hard release that finished off April, and having an easier release to start off May.
Batch Judging
The 16th Official Tournament batch is now closed. The batch system will be closed for the time being, as mentioned in the previous SOTW update. Batch judging will be undergoing a different approach to help get caught up on the unjudged files. The process will be similar to how files were judged during the Dump Batch last year where the goal is more about general reviews instead of detailed ones. You can find a full explanation of the process in this post.

For those of you on Facebook, we have created a new page! Updates will be posted similarly to the previous group page, and it will also be an avenue for us to keep everyone informed if the main website were to go down. Please check it out and follow it when you get the chance!

E-mail Verification/Password Resets
Putting a short post out here to let everyone know that some more issues cropped up again with our e-mail system. If you’ve been unable to verify a new account you’ve created or perform a password reset/recovery, this is why. Synthlight is looking into the issue and we will post an update as soon as we have one.
In the meantime, please contact one of our Community Managers or Global Moderators and we can manually take care of these processes for you. The best way is through our FFR Discord server.

Hello and welcome back to the resuming of Songs of the Week! The Spring Showdown recently ended and we’re back to weekly Saturday releases.
This is the final reminder that the 16th Official Tournament batch will be closing in a couple days on April 30th. Because of a file backlog and a lot of preparation being needed for the 16th Official Tournament, the batch system will be closed afterwards until the judges feel like they are in a good place to reopen it.
We also want to mention that we recently experienced some issues with our e-mail verification system for new accounts. This should now be fixed. For those who missed the update posted on our Discord server a few days back, we released a new Seasons feature for everyone!
If you go under your seasonal dashboard you should now see a graph that tracks your daily progress with your skill rating throughout the season. Hovering over each marker provides the skill rating and date, and these graphs have also been applied to previous seasons. Huge thanks to PrawnSkunk for making this happen!

Songs of the Week and Weekly Update 4/1/2023
Welcome to the first post of April! With another new season comes our bigger seasonal update with difficulty changes, a new leaderboard season, an engine update, and some other big news!
FFR Engine v1.5.0
Starting with a new engine update, a quick rundown of what’s coming to the engine is as follows:
Local File Browser
- Local file browser for playing .sm / .osu / .qua files.
- For those that have used the AF2021 engine, this is the same song selector, but is limited to just FFR style charts. (4K, No Mines or Holds)
- There’s a potential desync issue when using Isolation in combination with this, am looking into it.
Song Selection Tags and display toggles:
- Legacy
- Explicit
- Unranked
Reworked Receptor Code:
- Speed Scaler (0.25x – 5x)
- Unify Animations
- Per Judge Score Color and Toggles
Song Rates:
- No longer requires reloading the song when changed.
As with any engine update, you can find it over on our downloads page, and report any issues over on Github.
Season 7
Season 6 has concluded with just over 250 participants this time around. Season 7 has begun and will last until the end of June. Participation badges for Season 6 will automatically be added soon for those that met the requirements for them.
Difficulty Updates
The difficulty changes this season can be found at the usual location of our contested difficulty spreadsheet. In addition to the list of difficulty updates coming out for the new season, we have something a bit different that is happening with a short list of files. These files in particular have a severe difficulty spike, and as a result are frequently brought up for difficulty discussion, with enduring disagreement about whether the files are overrated, underrated, or should be moved to 0. Specifically, these files have a singular difficulty spike that is 1) ~5 seconds or less in duration and 2) 15 or more points more difficult than everything else in the file. We determined that these files are not quite as extreme as other files currently rated 0, and consequently they will be retaining their numerical ratings but will be unranked. This means they will no longer grant AAA equivalency or figure into global or seasonal skill ratings. You’ll be able to identify them in the new engine update by the gray difficulty number on the song selection screen.

Judgement Updates
On the judgement side of things we have a change in pace. We’re going to temporarily close submissions once the 16th Official Tournament batch closes at the end of April. We’ve built up quite a backlog, and will need to focus on getting OT files judged once that batch closes. There has not been a date set for when when the next batch will open, but we will provide an update on that as soon as it has been determined. The main factors will be how quickly judging proceeds through the current backlog and the quantity of files in the queue.
New Releases
As for the song releases today, we’ve kept this as a secret for awhile now. It took a bit of wrangling with some labels on our founder’s end, as well as a contract to only dedicate a very, very small percentage of his time towards being present on FFR. It doesn’t make much sense to us either, but it got some results!
