Gameplay Competition!

Clear your schedules and get your ice packs ready!  This Saturday, we’ll be running a 24 hour gamewhoring competition.  If you check the daily stats page, you’ll see that nobody has gotten over 400,000,000 grand total score in months.  I feel that that is unacceptable.  So this contest is my way of forcing/rewarding the brave men or women who dare to try to tackle 24 hours of FFR.

Plenty of notice so that everyone can clear their schedules and plan out a strategy.  The competition will last from 12:01am CST until 11:59pm CST on Saturday (that’s when the daily scores re-set every day).  Highest grand total score wins!

1st place will win an FFR T-Shirt and a 1 year subscription.  2nd place will get a 1 year subscription.  3rd place will get a 6 month subscription.  4th and 5th places will each get a 3 month subscription.

Lastly… anyone who cheats (and you will be caught) will be castrated.  Even if you’re female.

Lucky 999 In This Edition Of “Tass Is Bored, EVERYONE Wins!”

So, some people have been bugging me to release some of the old widget-only files onto FFR.  But, like with anything, I need a good excuse.  I figured, I would add a few of them in conjunction with the 1000th levelID on FFR…  but 1000 is so cliche.  I was a bit bored this morning, so I figured I would add some levels to FFR.  LevelIDs 996-999.  And since 999 gets no love, we’re going to celebrate 999 with 4 public releases of widget-only files.

New public releases:
-Power by ZeroFuser. Our 1st song by ZeroFuser since Gradeus, about 3 years ago! Stepfile is by hi19hi19… and it is a doozy! Definitely the new hardest file in FFR. You can find it in the upper left hand corner of page 1 of Dance
-What’s What is a cool dance track with some hip-hop undertones by Japanese artist Yu. Stepfile is by bmah and is an 8. You can find it in the upper left hand corner of page 1 of Dance2.
-Get Um Up by Army of Freshmen. A fairly typical modern rock song, Get Um Up will be making you get your hands up… which makes playing the file hard. Rated a 6. Found in the upper left hand corner of page 1 of Rock.  File by bluguerrilla.
-Outside the Skies is our first musical composition by stepfile artist Stargroup100. Stepfile is by behanjc. The song is quite melodic. I rated it a 7 for the 48ths and the long jumpstream, albeit at a low BPM. You can find it in the upper left hand corner of page 1 of Misc.

Cinco de Mayo!

So, any excuse to clear the queue up a bit, right? Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a song that related to Mexico or the number 5 or May. So, I decided to go with Endless Altercation. We’ll say that Cinco de Mayo ended that altercation. Whatever… it’s a stretch, and you guys don’t care anyway.

Currently located in the top of page 1 of Dance2, Endless Altercation is a song by our own KgZ. The stepfile is a lot of 16th jump-triplets and jumpstream. Not too fast though, so it’s rated a 9. It is also the first file in-game by smartdude1212!

Songs that came out this week: Metal Gear Solid Piano Mix by RaustBlackDragon. Stepfile by hi19hi19. Easy and melodic 4-footer, currently in Funk… will soon be in Arcade. Say It Right (Sanxion7 mix) by Sanxion7 (original song by Nelly Furtado). Stepfile by Eastsideman09. Straight-forward 8-footer, also currently in Funk, likely move soon to Dance2.

The Mirrors! And New Songs.

We wanted to let everyone know that profiles and the game should now be working across all mirrors. Synth lost a lot of hair figuring out what the problem was… and he doesn’t have that much to lose!

Also, has everyone gotten Rick Roll’d this weekend? You should have… if not, you haven’t been playing enough FFR. ReRicked was released on Friday, and is a techno remix of Never Gonna Give You Up done by KgZ. Stepfile is by SulferDragon. Released today is Xeno-Flow by beatMARIO. Steps by bmah.

Finally, if you notice some songs being moved around a bit over the next few days… don’t worry. That is just jimerax doing some house-cleaning after the avmiss fix. I’ll make sure to let everyone know when he’s finished so you can thank him for his hard work.

FFRock + Disturbed = Yes

Disturbed on FFRSince the moment I started FFR over 5 years ago, I have had a short list of milestones that I had hoped to accomplish. 500,000 members was one of them, engaging and building an online community was another. Among my list (and I am not kidding) was to have Disturbed as one of our artists featured in one of our games.

And today we have just that, full permission from the band.

Chicago being my hometown meant I had a certain admiration for Disturbed. I felt that during the mid to late 90′s and beyond, they kept rock alive in this city and across the nation. Always bringing a distinct musical and vocal flavor to everything they touched. Now here they sit, validated veterans of rock that understand how times are changing. They see the value in reaching out to online music communities and games like FFR and Rithum. This is where the youth lives and the youth needs to be exposed to their music.

Occasionally I will push an artist that we believe in over here at FFR. Today though I going to whore out the links because these guys deserve every bit of it. It’s truly an honor. Thank you to all the band members that made this possible.

Click here to visit the Disturbed1.com Homepage
Click here to visit the Disturbed myspace page (check out the FFRock Widget!)

We are also featuring the very first FFRock widget here on FFR. FFRock is a completely backwards compatible 5 key supporting widget that was built in admin castle while we spent 2 months in California. As time goes on, expect FFRock to evolve. (oh the plans we have) All of you veterans make sure you scroll down to the heavy levels! Expect some hard as hell FFR levels to follow in the near future.

You can play the Disturbed FFRock Widget HERE

Thanks to everyone who took part in this project, you know who you are. Keep watching, this is going to be a fantastic year.

Cheers,

Synthlight

No Possible Way I’m Making A Creative Title Out Of The Songs I Just Added – So Take This Really Long Title Instead. Ha Ha Ha. Long.

So after a bit of mostly unnoticed bug fixes, we’ve released 6 new subscriber songs today. These songs will trickle to the public over the next 20 days, one every Friday and Sunday.

In order of release, from this Friday thru 20 days from now:

00.01 is a 12th note full piece (I guess that would be 3/4 time?) by Nejino Hito and is stepped by SulferDragon. It’s very video game sounding (It may be from a video game… I don’t know. Let me know if it is!)

Garyo starts off slow, like a gentle Japanese tea party, then quickly builds up into a firestorm of Far-Eastern Fury. It will have you wanting to do Kung Fu immediately. Song is by Xi and steps are by behanjc.

Metal Gear Solid Piano Remix is our token (not actually a token) “easy” song of this grouping, being rated a 4. It’s very melodic. Anyone who is a fan of piano pieces will enjoy this one. Remix is by RaustBlackDragon and stepfile by hi19hi19.

Say It Right -Sanxion7 Remix- is a very creative name, right? The song is initially by Nelly Furtado (no, we do not have her permission currently) and is remixed by my good friend Sanxion7. He takes a surprisingly catchy song and makes it even catchier. Steps are by Eastsideman09.

Szerencsetlen is a song name that is way too difficult to spell. Of course, it is courtesy of Venetian Snares. I expect by now you all know what to expect from a VSnares song in FFR. Lots of crazy drum beats leading to fast rolls/bursts. This song is no exception, although it is a bit light compared to other VSnares songs in FFR. Szerencsetlen will also be a Secret song, so you’ll need 80,000 credits to access it. Stepfile is by ~Zero~.

Finally, our good friends Zajac and Gorlock are back with another big time hit as Underground Concept. The song is Brain Dot Wave, with big time nerdcore lyrics and a tetris backbeat. Stepfile is by UC-approved simfiler jimerax. Make sure to check these guys out double.

PS – The Key Is Watching YOU!

Caught in a Blue Rose, no escape from Reality

For today, we have yet another epic OSTER Project song.  Blue Rose is 6 minutes long and a shade over 3600 notes, with jacks and hands galore.  Stepfile is by stargroup100, and fits with his theme of stepping jazzy songs.  I listed it as a FGO, but I am still considering it FMO, possibly.  I think the megatrill combined with the length and number of hands and minijacks and jumpstream is enough for it to be a low FGO.

Secondly is our new fastest stream song in FFR, passing yesterday’s Electro Rush x8 v2.  Many of you are familiar with The Berzerker from SM or FFR R2, but until today, there had not been any in R1.  Reality joins an elite group of songs that are in both R1 and R2.  It is short, at 1:17, but is jam packed with 921 notes (and the 1st 10 seconds are blank!).  It is 77 seconds of 259bpm 8th jumps and 16th stream, so enjoy.  Be thankful that hi19hi19 used fairly straightforward patterns!

As a quick FYI: A group of us are leaving from LA for Chicago tomorrow en route to the convention on Saturday.  So updates will be whenever I can get them done.  We look forward to seeing all of you on Friday in Ann Arbor and on Saturday in Bowling Green!  We’ve got laptops, rock band, SSBB, pizza, and who knows what else!  Even if you can’t be there, we’ll be broadcasting the entire thing live onto the front page of the site….  with plenty of interaction in the chats!

Etude of the Piano Gymnastics Are Rushing Electrically (twice)!

OK… so the title is quite contrived.  Sue me.  Today’s 2 FMO/FGO event songs are Piano Etude (Gymnastics), which compliments the popular classical piece Piano Etude (Demon Fire).  Stepfile is by Behanjc…  and has been given a “platinum” rating by many respected FFRers.  I highly recommend you check this file out, found on Page 2 of Hip-Hop.

In addition is a Skill Token, which gives everyone TWO reasons to like it!  Not only is it a FGO with 250+ bpm stream, but it’s a SKILL TOKEN!  The song is Electro Rush x8 v2.  Both of today’s songs are by highly touted OSTER Project. V2 is by Rebirth0.  To unlock, you have to play Electro Rush x8, found on page2 of dance2.  In addition, you have to FC it, have 0 boos, and 2 or less goods.  A difficult task, but an excellent reward!

Enjoy!

Easter/Convention/AvMiss Fix FMO-FGO Event!

Posted in Game Announcements, Song of the Week on March 23rd, 200871 Comments »

First off, happy egg day to all of you who celebrate it. But let’s get right into the good stuff. Many of you may have been anticipating this, but for others it will be news… on the FFR Beta, there are no more average-misses. No more jack syndrome. No more random “wth, I didn’t miss that!” moments. And, because of this, we realized that we would need many new really hard songs to compensate.

So a big thanks to Rebirth0 and jimerax for all of their work in putting together this event. The FMO-FGO event (For Masters Only & For Gurus Only) will last for 7 days, culminating on Saturday… which also happens to be the day of the Animarathon FFR Convention in Bowling Green, OH (2nd Annual). Each day should get progressively harder, to some extent.

All songs will be placed in Hip-Hop for the event, so they are all centrally located. You’ll notice all the old random songs from HH are now gone. Today’s 2 songs are Novo Mundo by our own Dj_Ossa (also stepped by Ossa) and the long anticipated Lawn Wake I (LW EP Edit) by The Flashbulb (stepfile by Rebirth).

Oh yes… did I mention the other fun part of this event? The Beta fixes for jack syndrome will be made public. Along with a few other currently subscriber-only features, such as: in-game key remapping, in-genre page navigation, and a drop-down list of all songs for navigation. Possibly more features as well. Unfortunately, we aren’t able to release it just yet… but it will be out before the event is over!

-Tass, Rebirth, jx, and Synth’s creepy eye.

edit: If you just can’t wait…  you can subscribe and get the Beta now, along with all the other swell subscriber benefits.
