    DDR Pads

Well, I finally got a copy of DDR Max and a dance pad, but the pad is a big sucking hole. It won't stay still on the carpet, and I keep losing my place on the pad.

    A) is there any way to flatten out the pad and keep it in place?

    B) Anyone know where I can find a decent pad besides red octane?

carpet? you should play on a hard floor...or buy a harder ddr pad, but those are really rare, depending on where you live.

      A) Mod it. There's a billion places online that will show you how to mod a pad; www.ddrfreak.com being one of them. My first pad mod involved plywood and double-sided velcro; cost me only $3.

      B) Have someone build you a metal pad or build one yourself or go to the arcade later at night, carry the arcade pad out to your car, strap it on the roof and take it home. The other sites will basically carry different versions of what's on Red Octane. Soft pads aren't the greatest; you'll have invest a little (or sometimes a lot) to get a great home pad.

Cool, thanks for the info. I didn't even think about velcro. That's save me a shitload on a new pad. The plywood idea is decent too. I can put tape on the buttons or soemething to figure out where they are.

Fuck my calvs hurt...At least this will get me into somewhat of a shape (more like a bowling pin..but I'll be solid.)

Yeah, the plywood/velcro combo is decent, but there are better mods. I just went the cheap way; $3 for double-sided velcro and a free sqare of plywood I found in dad's shed. Just try to make sure you don't put the velcro underneath any of the buttons; the extra bump can make stepping uncomfortable, it can sometimes not register the step and if someone pulls the pad up you risk the chance of tearing the soft pads. Some people even use the spiked plastic that go on carpeting for computer chairs and shrinkwrap the pad onto it. That's a pretty decent mod if you can afford to spend a few bucks; you'd really have to be tearing it up to get the plastic to move.

I'm really hoping the MAX2 being released this year for US PS2 is better than the first. The first one, I thought was just "good." Definately the best domestic mix ever, but a lot more could have gone into making it. Hopefully, now KOA has seen that licensing songs will pay off. KOA's idea of giving us "exclusive songs" is ripping songs off of Beatmania and giving them step charts; I'm not buying into it; I already own Club Mix. Now if they could make step charts that weren't absolute crap, we'd have a great game. I think of MAX as being a "catch-up" game to make up for KOA being so damn far behind on domestic DDR games, so I'm really expecting a lot out of the new MAX2.
Oh, yeah, never buy a domestic third-party pad ... ever.

hehe... I've never thought of that. Just buy a really shitty DDR knock-off pad. Too bad no store in their right mind would carry that.

Pads are great like that. Try Bust-A-Groove and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater with a dance pad.

Yeah modding your pad really does help. My cheap 15 dollar pad lasted over a year with it on particle board(the only reason it broke was because I ripped it pulling it of the board).

Or just save up and get/build a nice pad.

And if you lose your balance now.. it would be really hard for you when you try harder songs (ANYTHING ON HEAVY)

Best pad ever. I've got one (a second one coming soon) and these puppies register better than most arcade pads... of course they cost $300 but they rock.
