    Gameboy Rave

    My first stab at fruityloops.

I'm satisfied with the music; still struggling with the vast technical depth of these new tools...

Ok. Any idea why, whenever I play it in stepmania, it chops/lags like it's running 10 instances of windows defragmenter? :0

I have no idea... but I can't make a stepfile out of it because of that. :/

its ok for a start, the lead synth sounds really annoying though
add a bit more percussion on your tracks, add some pads, and add some FX maybe

Damn I'd really like to remix this. Send the flp to [email protected] if you can. I'll post the mix back up here when its done.
If you want to keep the compisition to urself, its alright I understand.

I'll send it. I'm interested in seeing what you'll do and I'll probably learn something.

                    Here it is:

I didn't have a horribly large amount of time to do this, but I gave it a shot. Its kind of a housy tune, with an electric guitar for the lead, bass guitar for the... bass of course, and a nice strong 4/4 beat.
                    Enjoy

Amfew: Its a really great composition, that 4 years of midi experience really shows.

That was cool. I love slap bass(it sounded like slap bass to me anyway) and electric guitar, but I suck at finding samples/don't really know how to generate the right sound with them.

And thanks. I'm glad I never have to touch midi again though.

What are you talking about? It doesn't sound annoying at all; unless you just really hate that classic videogame lead sound (or if you just completely hate the classic videogames.) No offense, but it actually sounds better than any of the work I've heard by you. I'd evaluate myself before speaking, if I were you.

[EDIT: or you may be just letting random lies that sound like advice fly out of your mouth (or finger tips, rather) in attempt to sound like you're good with advice and that you know what you're talking about. If this is the case, here's a little 'tip': it doesn't make you sound like you know what you're talking about.]

Amfew: As a rule in general, the sounds in FL suck, so you really have to scourge the net for some good samples, or purchase a sample cd. And I noticed in your flp that you didn't use any synthesizers, are you familiar with vst?

Jono: I was thinking the same thing as you.

Edit: Thats crazy, there was 3 posts on this topic in a 3 minute span.

Hmm, vst? Nope. Not at all. :/

I tried a whole lot of different things, but I ended up doing the melody and bass using the ramp saw, both on the same channel even (because I need to see both at the same time for harmony's sake). After I made it modulate in a certain way, it sounds exactly like the saw used in romancing saga and mystic quest boss battles. I couldn't resist. :0

And yeah, the standard floops samples seem like they would be perfect for certain things... just not what I need usually.

Soundfonts are pretty easy to find, but they kill my CPU even when the poly is pretty low. I have yet to find any good wav samples but... I recently ripped a bunch of samples from spcs with cool old-school ones(Final Fantasy series, Megaman X series etc) which I'll have fun with for a while.

So... nope, not familiar with vst.

eyespewgreekfire: It's strange, because CIA rave actually gave me the idea to make this in the first place.
