gender selection, that just sounds messed up.I mean that you dont have to control everything in someones life.To me it seems that by changing a childs gender you are changing its entire course of life.Theres enough we have to do as people in this world and I dont think deciding someones gender is one of them.
If fedex and ups merged theyd be fedup
    *sarcastic laugh* fine Ill shutup

Whoa, major misconception here. They aren't manipulating genes for gender selection. Manipulating genes in humans is still illegal. All it is is it's a study that showed that if a couple conceives the child at a particular time in the womans menstral (sp?) cycle, it can be statistically assosiated with that child being a boy or a girl. It's a natural method of gender selection, like breeding horses, they aren't doing anything to the genes. XD I hope no one honestly beleived that.

It's still manipulating the genes. By artificially inseminating and making literal 'test tube' babies, they can predict whether it will be a boy or a girl with an almost 100% certainty. No, they're not actually changing the genes, but still. Oh, and I think I confused some people back there when I said the thing about changing height, intelligence, etc. For those of you wondering, no, they cannot do that...yet. The 'yet' is what I was trying to convey, I was asking if people thought in the future when they undoubtably learn how, what they thought about it, and if this is the first step toward that.

I think that is at max only 75% perfect so far, but in the coming years it will become probably 100% perfect. They dont change the genes at all they just take the sperm and seperate them using dyes to tell the y and x chromosomes apart. One takes in more dye then the other. I forget how they did it in the end but i think it involved electricity in some way.

            we think very similarly...

Here in america, yes most people probably don't really care if their child is male or female. However, lets say theoretically that this technology becomes widespread and available to everyone in all countries. In places like India, for example, you will see that the vast majority of children born will be male, simply because according to their culture a male child is much > a female one. I'm not sure about the exact statistics, but i do know that the vast majority of the abortions and such made there are on females. Therefore, being able to decide which gender your child is can potentially have an enourmous impact on the balance of genders nationwide.

In summary, i believe that such practices are wrong, and genetic alteration should only be restricted to treating chronic or life threatening hereditary diseases and nothing more. Think of this way: imagine being a guy in school, and having a hard time finding a date cause the guys outnumber the girls 2 or 3 to 1! These type of sitiuations should be avoided at all costs! =)
