December Spin Celebration: 5 Years of FFR on SIU

5 Years of FFR

Hold onto your hats (or any other article of clothing you happen to be wearing; if this does not apply, I am officially scared), because here we go with the December Spin Celebration.

As promised, Saturday, Dec. 8 is here and we now have the first of our four special Spin It Up additions. This week’s theme celebrates an anniversary of the very fiber of our existance – 5 years of Flash Flash Revolution. In this update, you will find a robust recognition of 18 songs, 12 of which are brand, spanking new to Spin it Up, which celebrate a handful of songs popularized in Flash Flash Revolution 1st Style and the early days of Flash Flash Revolution 2nd Style. 12 songs is kind of like the 12 days of Christmas, so this theme thing is really playing into my hand, right?

From its humble beginnings in 2002 on a single, black page to the huge, involving community it has become today in 2007, Flash Flash Revolution couldn’t be possible without you or the massive number of artists who have allowed us to use showcase their music throughout the years. So, sit back for a couple of minutes and enjoy these classic tunes, now live in Spin It Up:

1st Style Revisited
—————————————-

NEW! – Terror From Beyond by Digital Explosion – FFR Song #1 – Difficulty Level 6 by MixMasterLar
Recognized as the very first song added to the game in the Flash Flash Revolution songlist, the origins of FFR are now up for enjoyment in Spin It Up.

NEW! – Get on the Move by DJ Antinomie – FFR Song #2 – Difficulty Level 4 by MixMasterLar
DJ Antinomie’s first contribution to FFR is the euro dance song Get on the Move and the only file among the original dance genre files not rated 4 in difficulty. Among the first FFR entries, DJ Antimomie appears in-game more than any of the artists featured in the original 13 Synthlight levels.

NEW! – Story of Snowman and Sunshine Girl by Digital Explosion – FFR Song #3 – Difficulty Level 6 by MixMasterLar
The only artist to feature more than one song in the original 13 Synthlight levels and perhaps my favorite tune among those levels. Story was one of the longest levels introduced into the game, topping three minutes.

NEW! – 136.6 by Chuk and Gek – FFR Song #4 – Difficulty Level 6 by MixMasterLar
This upbeat dance number with powerful synth lines rounded out the original four dance genre songs.

NEW! – Legend of Zelda by The Rabbit Joint – FFR Song #13 – Difficulty Level 3 by MixMasterLar
The song that launched the arcade genre in FFR. Unfortunately for FFR players, the SIU version offers no Yoshi’s Story theme for a bonus round and, no, for the 1,432,283,283rd time, that is not System of a Down.

NEW! – Mega Man II: Dr. Wily Theme #1 by C. Stewart – FFR Song #14 – Difficulty Level 4 by Nestlekwik
The 14th song on FFR and the first stepfile in the game not developed by Synthlight. The original FFR stepfile was created by some weirdo entirely in Notepad. *Currently out of order for some reason. Will have a fix ASAP*

Super Mario 8-Bit ’80s Remix by Starla PeaceCraft – FFR Song #16 – Difficulty Level 1 by Shashakiro
Super Mario was FFR’s first recognized level 1 difficulty step file. While not new to Spin It Up, you can enjoy it in-game, still in its level 1 glory.

NEW! – Salad for Your Tuesday by Jewpinthethird – FFR Song #21 – Difficulty Level 6 by XPTRIPPYNESSXD
The first appearance of site staff member Jewpinthethird in FFR. Now the song that launched a robot dancing craze on Youtube is available on Spin It Up. What? Do you think I’m kidding about the Youtube dancing?

NEW! – HellBeat by Arktisk (David Poore) – FFR Song #23 – Difficulty Level 5 by MixMasterLar and Jugglinguy
FFR difficulties go double digit for the first time, tossing in an 11 difficulty to the game. The song clocks in at 1 minute exactly, narrowing out Mega Man 2 and Legend of Zelda by 1 second for shortest song in FFR, which it held until March 2007.

NEW! – Soul Shift by SuperGreenX – FFR Song #39 – Difficulty Level 4 by Nestlekwik
The first of many, many songs in FFR by the talented SuperGreenX. The song was added as a special event when a then-unprecendented 4 songs hit FFR at the same time. If you claim it was actually 5 songs at the same time, I have no idea what you are talking about.

FFR 2nd Style (The Early Years) Revisited
————————————————

Secret Zombie Room by For Great Justice! – FFR Song #50 – Difficulty Level 2 by Synthlight
One of the original 2nd Style secret genre levels is already included in Spin It Up, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy it. The song was actually a Spin It Up pioneer, being the second tune placed into the game.

Trip to the Moon by Nina Goddess of Dance – FFR Song #53 – Difficulty Level 5 by Synthlight
An example of one of FFR’s great European artists, Nina would also appear in later in-game levels before being featured in the arcade and console releases of In the Groove. Being the third artist implemented into Spin it Up, Nina’s voice also accompanies the FFR and SIU song Bomb the Base by Paradise Decay.

Ub3R R4vE by DJ Rage VI – FFR Song #54 – Difficulty Level 6 by Shashakiro
Some more heavy-hitting music to add to the top rungs of the ladder on the early FFR difficulty scale. Back then, I learned DJ Rage VI at the time lived one town over from me. Small world, no? Ub3R R4vE was the first level 6 file added to Spin It Up.

NEW! – Dance 2 This by DJ KANKAOH – FFR Song #59 – Difficulty Level 2 by Nestlekwik
DJ KANKAOH provided many tracks for FFR in the early days and one of his last-seen tunes, introduced in 2nd Style, is the easy-going house song Dance 2 This. DJ KANKAOH also collaborated with someone for the first-ever song made specifically for FFR, but I don’t know anything about that.

NEW! – Stalled Out and Sushi Bars by The Fat’s Sabobah – FFR Song #85 – Difficulty Level 4 by MixmasterLar
Another quality outing for staff member Jewpinthethird. Jewpin always brought out a unique sound among the artists of FFR and Stalled Out is no exception.

For FFR by DJ Rage VI – FFR Song #86 – Difficulty Level 8 by Shashakiro
DJ Rage VI shows up again to create a song, introduced in the secret section, just for FFR. I mean, that’s why the song is called For FFR, isn’t that obvious? Spin It Up showed its tribute toward FFR when it was released as the second-ever 8-rated spinfile.

NEW! – CIA Rave by DJ Acsent – FFR Song #98 – Difficulty Level 5 by MixMasterLar
The 1/16th stream beast makes its way into Spin It Up with this new creation. Now the nightmare of everyone’s average rank can be played in spin form.

Balloon Fever by dj tepples – FFR Song #121 – Difficulty Level 2 by Shashakiro
Placed into Spin It Up at good old number 10, the level 11 arcade giant got toned down when introduced into Spin It Up. The song joined an already-impressive lineup of arcade songs for its time and there’s always room for Balloon Fight.

So there you are, our tribute to Flash Flash Revolution. I hope the history and notes were of fan service to you and help you out if you are ever to confronted with FFR trivia. Be sure to head over and play what we have to offer in Spin It Up, which is quick approaching its 100th song addition. The additions won’t be stopping any time soon either as we still have three full-fledged theme-filled weeks of Spin It Up to go through. But, please also continue enjoying Flash Flash Revolution, and feel free to thank the staff members for bringing you five years of FFR. Without everyone’s support, there would be no 5 years of FFR and your continued support ensures we’ll be recognizing 10, 15, 20 years and beyond. Be sure to drop by MixMasterLar’s profile and shoot him a message – this dude is a spinfile beast and is responsible for most of the new content you’ll be playing.

  48. I must have been on crack. I was sure it was a five song update with soul shift, and that DJ KANKAOH worked with Nestlekwik to make that song that was just for FFR. But then again, I do a lot of inhalants.

  49. What many of you may not realize is that SIU gets thousands upon thousands of game plays each day.

    Cheers,

    Synthlight

  55. I remember that black page actually. FFR used to have “Almost” instead of “Average” then right? …So that must mean I’ve been playing since 2002 and didn’t release it?? o_o

  57. I want a foam FFR finger >:

  58. Synth said:”What many of you may not realize is that SIU gets thousands upon thousands of game plays each day.
