Song of the Week: The Games We Played, Part 1
Today’s Song of the Week is made by aspergian and was stepped by Rebirth0. The Games We Played is a piano remix of many different songs from various video games like The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Bros, Kingdom Hearts, Metal Gear Solid, Tetris, and many more. The song is 17 minutes long so that it has to be cut and released in different parts. The part we get this week is the first 3 minutes 22 seconds.
We said that we would have a song with BPM changes for this week, and this song has PLENTY of them. It has 200 – 300, give or take.
Enough talk about the simfile, let’s talk about the artist. The artist of this song goes by “Torley Wong” and has made music (mainly techno), for many years. Sadly, in May of 2004 he was struck by hyperacusis, and lost the ability to hear. He no longer makes music, but has uploaded all 230 of his songs so we can listen to them: http://www.archive.org/details/Torley_Wong_-_The_Final_Selection. We currently only have permission for TGWP, but we are working towards getting access to his entire library.
You can find TGWP1 in the Arcade section. It is currently on page 1, upper middle, although it will be moving to page 2 in around 1 month to continue the pattern of increasing difficulty within the genre. Sometimes, I can’t even figure out what they represent. Do they exactly mirror the DDR and/or SM coloring system? If so, I would like to know.

Red = 4th note
Blue = 8th note
Dark Purple = 12th note
Yellow = 16th note
Light Purple = 24th note
Orange = 32nd note
Light blue = 48th note
Green = 64th note

That was a fun song. Just played it, Only got 500k points though..=( But I finished it, and I must say, the arrows were quite amusing. Nice color schemes.

do have to say i love the song and how the step sync.. except close to the middle when there is a quad right.. which i played the song over 50 times and still couldnt hit them all.. which annoyed me

bpm changes don’t really show up in the game, since the game plays on a cmod. But they’re there.

I noticed BPM changes. It’s not in the speed of the arrows, but how far apart they’re spaced, particular at the beginning with the alternating up/down arrows. It’s also evident a bit before the quad right, where the music speeds up.

Just played the song again and I noticed many more spots where the quarter and 16th notes where closer together than other parts of the song.

Wow, the colors, this should be called “Rainbow Road” or something, it was funny. I picked up on a few songs, i heard the retro Kirby for gameboy, i had to laugh on that one, it brought back memories.

Guys, just because we have permission to use all his songs doesn’t mean we’re going to use even a tenth of them, at least in the near future…we also have permission to use all of Sharpnel’s songs, but we’re not gonna have 100% of those in FFR either.
