Extreme Fix

Posted in Uncategorized on November 28th, 20044 Comments »

Ok, maybe it isn’t as good as it sounds. I fixed the song “Extreme” the original was compressed in… mono… and flash didn’t like that. So I ran it through and recompressed it as a stereo .mp3. It should be working fine now.

You MUST clear your cache in order for Extreme to work.. unless.. you have never loaded it before.

Updates But No Baby

Posted in Uncategorized on November 28th, 20048 Comments »

Well, it was either one or the other right? My wife is not in labor yet we have some updates for you guys.

Group order is correct now on the group select screen.
When switching difficulties on the difficulty select screen, the icon no longer gets stuck.
When exiting options, it returns the song wheel to the song you were previously on.
When exiting the score screen, it returns the song wheel to the song you were previously on.

At this point we are at R2 Public Beta .12 and still moving forward on bugs and features.

Cheers,

Synthlight

*EDIT* A new error just popped up in the difficulty select screen. If you move too quickly, it breaks it. We are fixing it right now and this message will go away when it is fixed.

One Small Step

Not enough to change a minor revision number but I think I have completely solved the song loading problem. No songs should ever report 100% loaded upon the start of a load unless they really are. :)

On a secondary note, my wife might be starting labor as I write this. So I may be in the hospital for a day or 2 if that happens. Which means *music of doom* no R2 updates during that time.

First revision update. R2 Public Beta V .11

We have addressed a couple of issues regarding the R2 engine and have released the first update. I will be working on a solution for the pre-loader this afternoon.

Escape Key now works.

The hard to break combo and hard to miss arrow bug on high bpm songs has been fixed.

R2 Contest Results

Posted in Uncategorized on November 26th, 200419 Comments »

Thanks to everyone for participating and remember to be good sports. No ripping each other apart as result of these results. If everyone plays nice, I will hold another contest like this very soon! I will keep my comments to a minimum and all of the judges individual results are private. So don’t ask. All judges performed as expected and rated people very differently based on their own experiences.

1st place: Kilgamayan (4th file made the difference)
2nd place: Skor (Can you say lost 1st by .5%)
3rd place: Reach (one hell of a stepfile)
4th place: Jenova Sephiroth (Beat out Alain, damn fine effort)

Thanks to everyone for participating! PM me with your address asap! If everything goes well I will see you very soon for the next contest. BTW there are many stepfiles from this contest that need to be put up for R2. We only had time to put in a few yesterday.

Cheers,

My Impression of Tonight

Posted in Uncategorized on November 26th, 200423 Comments »

Wow, what a crazy day and night we have seen over the last 24 hours.

Some quick tips for those playing R2 Public Beta 1:

Make sure there are no flash banners running in other windows
Make sure all flash apps are closed
Make sure you have the latest Flash plugin
Run R2 in I.E. and complain to macromedia about their poor FireFox support
Running R2 in I.E. will increase the performance by 30-40%
DO NOT right click and press play if a song appears to not be loading.
If a song shows that it is loaded at 100% please give it some time. This may be a bug with the preloader and it may still be loading.
press RETURN at the end of a song to return to the song wheel
press DELETE anytime you want to back out of a menu
CLICK on the OPTIONS button on the song wheel screen in order to set speed mods etc.

We have had some random complaints about a combo bug where people miss an arrow and then on the next arrow it starts the combo where it left off. This seems to run hand in hand with the bug that makes it really hard for you to fail a song. If you are one of these people, please PM Synthlight with detailed specs on your situation. The more information you provide, the quicker this gets solved. This also goes for people who have experienced negative scores, please report your detailed specs.

I will add to this list as I think of more. This will be a little tricky over the next few days as we identify and try to satisfy each situation or configuration.

Cheers,

Synthlight

*EDIT* Contest winners will be announced by 1pm CST tomorrow (26th)

Helpful Hint #384732

Use the DELETE key to back out of any menu. The ESCAPE key is not valid in flash.

Use the keyboard for all navigation in R2 besides the options button on the song select screen.

Helpful Hint #34234985:

Run R2 with I.E. because Firefox runs it at about 70% the normal speed due to Macromedia not putting in enough effort for the FireFox version of the plugin.
