FFR 3rd Style Live Scoring Discussion – Tomorrow Night in Subscriber Chat

Posted in Uncategorized on August 7th, 200763 Comments »

“What is this? 3rd Style?” Yes, I did say 3rd style and yes we are still meeting, planning and developing for this product. Some of you have been waiting patiently for this 3rd style, many of you may not even know what 3rd style is.

3rd style is the successor to the current version of FFR which is currently considered “2nd style”. Not to be confused with R2 which is a separate development altogether. As many people know, I absolutely refuse to release 3rd style unless it kicks all the ass that I promise it will. This is not the time or place to talk about all the improvements and features of 3rd style but I assure you that the list is long.

We have been holding admin meetings every couple days trying to hammer out final details and flow. The nice part is that final decisions are really starting to solidify and the flow is really making a lot of sense. We have been holding live chats for our admin meetings and this type of immediate feedback with each other seems to be the best way to go about our final development decisions.

There is however one part that none of us agree on… Scoring. We basically have 2 or 3 camps when it comes to 3rd style scoring. We surely cannot decide this on our own and would like to extend an invitation to all subscribers to meet with us in a special live 3rd style scoring discussion tomorrow night at 7pm Central (8pm Eastern). As subscribers we know that you care very much which path our development takes and as such we would be honored to have you take part in the discussion. As we creep closer to a release date, we will have open public discussions as well.

We will announce a URL for the live discussion tomorrow night about 15-20 minutes before the discussion starts in the subscriber forum. We can’t wait to see what you guys come up with. Maybe we can finally put this scoring debate to rest. :)

Thanks again for everything. See you then.

Cheers,

Synthlight

Day Late… but don’t TELL anyone. New User ST #3

Posted in Flash Flash Revolution, Tokens on August 7th, 200741 Comments »

It is only fitting that we have an easy classical song for our ONE easy classical song. Tell is a remix of Rossini’s William Tell Overture done by Kyle Ward (under alias Symphonius) for In The Groove. I’m sure you all will be quite familiar with the tune. The stepfile is by dore, and is understepped. I accepted this file under the condition that dore make a Tell v2 that is properly stepped or overstepped. So, to get this fun song, Professor Tass advises you to play Moonlight Sonata and get at least 100 perfects.

And that will be my first and only attempt at copying Kwik’s style of writing. I’ll admit… I failed miserably.

3rd Post of the Day! LoveHateHero on FFR!!! Valencia on FFR!!!

Posted in Simfiles, Song of the Week on August 5th, 200735 Comments »

You now should have access to both version of Red Dress by LoveHateHero. Amity and Goodbye, My Love will be available later this week. I shouldn’t even have to tell you about these files at all… since you’ve all already played them on LHH’s embedded player on their myspace, right?? Regardless, the files are by MeaCulpa and Talisman, respectively. You can find them at the top of Rock page 1.

The Space Between is a pretty sweet Alternative song that talks about my home town, Philly. The band is Valencia, which, amazingly, is from Philly as well. And their myspace page (which may have an embedded player soon too) can be viewed here. Stepfile is by bluguerrilla, his 1st on FFR. Difficulty is rated a high Difficult because of a few small 16th bursts at 170. Mostly 8ths with some jumps. I guess it could be a low 8, but I’ll leave that for debate in the forums. You can find the song on page 2 of Rock, 2nd row. Check out Valencia, signed to I Surrender Records, they’re a real cool band and big supporter of FFR.

See you guys with another easy skill token tomorrow.

News story title keywords for the win. :)

This news post is to inform all of you about the upgrades to the Making April and LoveHateHero embedded players. They now look snazzier than ever, they now support MORE than 3 songs, and they’ll soon be supporting other cool stuff like Spinfiles for the band’s songs and the stepfile authors names and images for each level. Y’know… awesome stuff.

Not to mention… well… I don’t know if I can even mention… but the general generic embeddable widget will be getting a similar and possibly even snazzier overhaul in the very near future. But I’ll let Synth tell you guys all about that.

Also, expect many many more new band specific myspace players in the very near future. Maybe even another new one tonight, perhaps.

Until then…. Making April and LoveHateHero! And, I’m not done for today either… I have 1 more news post to make still. So check back again later tonight.

2 Public SotWs & 3 Subscriber SotWs

Posted in Song of the Week on August 5th, 200741 Comments »

This week’s 2 public songs of the week are definitely something to enjoy. Szamar Madar is a song that, even if the file is too difficult, you need to listen to anyway. It’s that amazing. The song is by the Venetian Snares. It’s a breakcore song, but has such soothing melodies in the background. Such a cool song. AND… the stepfile is pretty darn good too. We’ve had multiple comments of “This is my favorite file ever!” and “This is the best song on FFR!”… so much so, that I believe Kit- is currently sitting in the corner blushing. The file is a 10, Very Challenging… but you’re going to want to try it. As such, I’ve put it in the upper left hand corner of Misc, so as not to bury it. It’ll be there for at least a week before moving towards the back of Misc.

The other SotW is Paranoia -Darkness Mix-, a remix off of the well known Paranoia songs on DDR. Song is by one of the two main DDR Remixers that I know, Sanxion7 (DM Ashura being the other). Solid file, overall not that difficult compared to the Paranoia songs in general. Rated a 6, Tricky. You guys will definitely like it though… approved for children of ALL ages. Stepfile is by stargroup100. You can find it near the end of Dance.

Quick blurb for the subscriber songs… all located in funk. Mute City Remix, a song by KgZ and stepped as a collab between SulferDragon and Brilliant Dynamite Neon, will be a secret song at 45,000 credits. Mocha Ocean is a relaxing yamajet song stepped by MeaCulpa to go along with Mute City. Today’s song is bbblow, a cool Onoken song stepped by Rebirth. Random factoid: bbblow is the first song on FFR to feature a 64th stream (at a whopping 40bpm). No worries to the artists, full paragraphs will be out in 3 weeks when these songs go public.

Expect more news from me later today… stay tuned!

New User Skill Token #2 – Arcade 101

Posted in Tokens on August 4th, 200753 Comments »

Welcome back class. I’m pleased to see your dedication to the Nestlekwik School of FFR and as such I’ve arranged another assignment for you. This time we’re upping the ante a little but with a little dedication, anybody should be able to score tonight’s shiny new skill token.

Today’s homework will ask not one, but two things from you – pull up the good ol’ arcade section of the game and access the classic beginner song Super Mario 8-Bit Eighties Remix, it’s the first song in the genre. Not only do you have to pass the song, which if you can manage Free Space, I have the utmost faith in you to pass this, but you have to come out of the song with a max combo of at least 100. The song file, rated one in difficulty, has a total of 174 arrows in it, so your keyboard smashing succession needs to ensure you hit a minimum of 57 percent of the song’s arrows without any errors in between.

What’s in it for you? Upon completing the task, you’ll be awarded the song Geno’s Forest F-Zero – do well on an arcade song and ye shall receive yet another video game rendition. Ha, ha, yet another amusing coincidence, no? The song by XBrav is accompanied by a stepfile created for us by Coolboyrulez0. Do you remember Geno? Great Super Nintendo memories for sure. But Super Mario RPG is a lecture for another day. *ahem*

The difficulty of the file jumps a little bit from the one ratings you’ve been receiving thus far, ranking in at a respectable four in difficulty. The file, while only clocking in at 1:25, is a real fun one that will introduce our new players to eighth note streams leading into double steps. Remember, when you unlock the song, you will have to refresh the page in order for it to add to the game’s songlist and you will find the song under the “S” – Skill Token genre.

On another note, we’re currently testing a new feature with the subscribers that is so secret that right now it is hidden under a My Little Pony bed sheet in a warehouse just outside Blaine, Missouri. Yet, again, another benefit of supporting the site, so get to it and subscribe!

That is all, class. Seeing as nearly 3,500 achieved success with the first assignment, I believe we will have yet another high passing rate with your newest homework assignment. Super Mario 8-Bit Eighties Remix – 100 combo – pass the Mario song for even more Mario. Good luck.
