What’s been happening?

Posted in Flash Flash Revolution on November 13th, 2010

Since we came back Online on October 10th, our development team has been in full swing, with several dedicated developers putting in hours of work each night to bring anything that’s broken back online and spruce up what’s already working. Here is a partial list of the changes that have been made since our last update:

Fixes
- User profiles have been restored as well as our profile chat feature.
- The forums are working properly, including avatars which were originally broken
- FFR’s main flash (excluding multiplayer) is now almost functioning correctly. Everything appears to be good except for the FFR Shop; we are still having issues purchasing songs in sporadic situations. However, this issue only affects new purchases. Any songs that are already purchased will still show up under the Purchased category.
- Multiplayer is back online in working beta form. There are still many bugs with it, but thanks to Dragon Shot’s hard work, you can now play online with all of your friends! Click here to start playing!
- The database has been optimized to bring better loading times. There were many database lookups that ran slowly due to poor design. aperson has gone through and optimized them to improve site performance.

Removals
- The Simfile Database has been disabled and will not be brought back at any time in the future. We don’t have the time nor patience to deal with a huge DMCA liability. We are considering bringing it online in the future so that users can access their own files for archival.
- R2, MeTrivia, Yahtzee, and other various non-essential parts of the site have been removed since development on them has ceased.

New Things!
- The replay engine has been rewritten by Dragon Shot and is now in use for any replays that you view.
- A new token song has been added. Pass Big Blue V1 to unlock it
- Video chat is in the works too! Unfortunately, it will have to be a complete code rewrite. But rest assured, we have not forgotten about VC and we will be working hard to bring it back online. However, there is not currently an estimated time at which it will be released.
- The new era staff list is being finalized and will be posted on the front page next week once we have decided exactly who will be filling what roles.

Subscriber Changes
We are doing away with Subscribers. Instead of being a subscriber, we will offer the special subscriber features to those who have attained veteran status. This is tentatively set to activate once you have been a member for 3 years or once you have reached 3 billion grand total points. Be on the lookout for an update with this veteran status implemented soon!

It looks like most of the bugfixing is about done, so expect lots of new features and changes on the way soon!

Best regards,
The new FFR Team

Thanks for everything, you guys :)

  3. FUCK YOU DRAGON SHOT

  4. pwned. I’m still working on stuff. :D

  5. Kidz play nice………………

  6. Very cool, thanks you guys :)

  7. Profile chat does NOT work. D:

  8. Yeah it does.

  9. Side note, I’m now officially using this as my username.
Time to get back my stats.

  10. Bethany some users are having issues connecting. I’ll be looking into this over the next few days. I’m currently chatting with 38 other people in there right now, though.

  11. Awh thank you aperson<3

  12. Go FFR! No disappointments!

  13. When I try to get into MP, I get a “Can’t Connect”.

  14. Check the first post again for a link to the beta MP engine.

  15. Ya, I would like a solution to why I cant connect to prochat/MP beta after doing everything discussed in the change log thread. If Im seriously missing something, please PM or something on how to fix this. Other then that, nice work to all.

  16. Thanks. Things are definitely moving in the right direction.

  17. This is awesome, guys. Great job to all of you. :) Keep up the great work.

  18. thanks for the updated, I appreciate everything that has been done and continues to be done.

  19. We should get something if we get 100k hits on tass.

  20. I’m really digging the veteran thing it’s a nice idea

  21. Woah, how long has http://www.flashflashrevolution.com/~velocity/
    been around?

  22. Sucks to see the Simfile DB go, it was by far the best one on the web. But in other news, the veteran thing is awesome, been here since 2006 :D . Can’t wait for video chat to be back up!

  23. please make veteran status 25bil score

  24. Lies. Profile chat not working!

  25. WHAT ABOUT SIU?

  26. awesome updates! keep up the good work FFR!

  27. For veterans status, 3 bil seems kinda low. That is WAY easier to obtain compared to the 3 years part.

  28. Sweet. I knew all of that, but updates are always nice to have. Thanks for taking the time to let everyone know. :]

  29. There are 1794 users with 3 billion or more points right now. I feel that that is a perfectly acceptable cutoff.

  30. badman7772 says: This is what I’m talking about! This game is now about us and not what the admins think. As for vet status. Make it so that you have to get 10 billion grand total. I mean if someone whored the game enough, they could be a vet in 2-3 days.
    _____________________________________________________

If that is true, then if the requirement is 10 billion grand total, someone could be a vet in 7-10 days. Not really a big difference. It’s a short amount of time regardless.

  31. I would never subscribe to this site. But I do love merchandise.

I wonder if an official 2011 Top 1000 Player shirt will be made for the FFR Store. That’d be cool.

Late 2011 of course…the site just got back up!

Aperson:How many users on this site have played at least 100 games of FFR?

  32. I know that sounds kind of bad, but the reason I didn’t (and wouldn’t) subscribe, is because in just about any online game where you donate or subscribe, you get various things other players don’t get that give them a much better edge.

In other words, they can literally BUY their way ahead in a game, and get ahead with little or no effort and/or skill.

  33. MI4 REAL: 343356 users have played 100 games or more.

  34. *totally just found out FFR is back in action* Makes this kid very VERY happy indeed :3 great job!~

  35. Awesome stuff, especially the veteran idea. Thanks a bunch, guys!

  36. @ape: how reliable is the database you pulled those numbers from? this: http://www.flashflashrevolution.com/FFRStats/FFR_MostPlayed.php doesn’t seem to update, and hasn’t for a VERY long time (pre-FFR death). If it were up to date, I’d be rank 4 in comparison with the numbers up there.

Also, my first thought about the Vet status was make it 5bil. 3bil is just… idk. Lowers the standard. If you’re gonna push us into a semi-elitist group… don’t make it so easily attainable, and give some semblance of exclusivity.

I’ve earned 3bil in a week of what I considered (at the time) casual playing before.

Less than a month of regular playing vs creating your account 3 years ago and being a member of the community = two TOTALLY different things. If anything, perhaps make two separate categories of “Veteran”, each with equal privileges.

    Apologies for the long reply.

Excellent work guys, loving everything so far, and the direct communication we’re afforded in every part of the site. This is how it should be done. +

  37. Fantastic to hear everything is going smoothly guys. This newfound transparency is a very pleasant change :)
Looking forward to VC, keep up the good work!!

  38. Thanks for all the hard work. :)

  39. <333 Thanks for the update

  40. Looks like things are really kicking into high gear! Glad to see everything is functioning almost at 100%, and that there is an MP beta out! I’m SOOO trying it after I warmup a bit today!

I’m definately iffy the low score for veteran status though. Like…my account hasn’t been technically played on for a full year yet, and I don’t even go for score, and still have about 8 billion points. How about veteran status be given out for a low average rank instead of grand total. Like, those with an average rank of under 500 or somethng could be Veterans…so this way new players will still need to play for a decent amount of time before they reach this status.

  41. How bout we just make veteran status be here for 3+ years and leave it at that, drop the whole score thing.

  42. What Plan_Bsk said.

  43. Honestly, if it was my descision I would make veteran status be 5 years. That’s a fucking long time to be associated with a website.

5 years and 5 billion seems reasonable does it not?

  44. I think it should be 5 billion. or at least 4 billion. but the 3 year idea seems fine to me. I’ve only been on here for just over 2 years and it feels like a long time.

  45. Veteran status should be based on Tier points. T4 and up get veteran status.

  46. Making veteran status only based on time I don’t ike very much. There are people here who have active accounts longer than 3 years and barely use it, yet there are others who have been on for less who have done so much more in terms of the game itself. Time alone is a bad way to determine veteran status in my opinion…what you’ve done on the site is FAR more important then how long you’ve been here.

  47. I vote for 3 years AND 3 billion score AND been active in the last year.

  48. Woot!

  49. Oh, except I can’t connect to MP at all. Even with my firewall turned off. Still having issues reliably connecting to prochat too.

  50. There are 1,477 users who have been a member for over 3 years and have > 3 billion grandtotal score. If we make activity within a year be a requirement, that should cut the number of users down by a substantial amount, and all those users would have to do be vets is log in.

    Thoughts?

  51. I agree with you 100%, Sprite! Having both shows that have some amount of dedication to FFR and care for it some amount.

  52. That’s good. I really think that excluding joindate from the equation would be a mistake. A veteran is someone who has been here a while. I kind of think it’s more important than gamescore. There are plenty of FFR veterans that never play the game. They were just more active in the community.

  53. lol i found a FFR secret ppl copy this an post this in ur address bar an ull see FFr the game in a different way

    for real
    http://www.flashflashrevolution.com/~velocity/

  54. It’s not a secret, that’s been out for a long time. I don’t believe it registers your games, so if you want to improve your rank, play the regular one :P

  55. It’s about time FFR gets a revamp on the staff. All the old admins never did anything useful to the site anyway. Hopefully, we see some new and improved changes with this new era of staff. Keep up the good work guys :D

  56. ehhh… I kinda like the idea of making separate requirements, not cumulative.

3 year member status, 5 or 10 bil grand total, 1k or 1.5k forum posts… things like that. things that show you’re active on the game or within the community.

Putting a concrete “must be a member for 3+ years” isn’t fair to those that are regularly active in almost every facet of the game/site.

leonid is the most perfect example I can think of.

  57. People here are just lol. You complain and disagree with the things you dont have(either GT or member length), or suggest things just because they have it and would get it. I like where Sprite is coming from with the member length, GT, and active in the last year deal though.

  58. There are 1,477 users who have been a member for over 3 years and have > 3 billion grandtotal score. If we make activity within a year be a requirement, that should cut the number of users down by a substantial amount, and all those users would have to do be vets is log in.

    Thoughts?

    ————

ffff I get taken out of vet this way because of me having only 2.79 years x)

Great job to all of the staff for getting everything up and running!

The term is “Veteran”. Not “Highly active user”.

  60. Aperson:Thanks!

Now perhaps you could answer this long-time question of mine, too?

How many users have 1000 average rank or better?

I know at least 635, since that’s the requirement to unlock the Happy Rainbow achievement token.

  61. Then… just make it 3+ years? No other requirements except logging in once in the last year. I mean, if being a part of the community, or playing the game hold no merit when defining “Veteran”…

I don’t really mind any way this gets implemented, contrary to what planb said. I have other accounts, and no matter how it’s implemented, one or more of my accounts (oldest being 4.8 years, youngest being this one) will be “Veteran” status.

  62. @MI4 REAL
464 people have average rank 1000 or better

  63. These all sound like great updates for FFR. And i’m loving the new Replay function! :D

  64. How About 3yrs & 1billion grandtotal OR 4billion total

  65. woah woah, you are lowering the standards now budday. ;)

  66. Well you gotta realize, for every person that would be a veteran, they want to set the limit as high as possible so they can be in ~Tha Most Exclusive Grp~. I’m trying to find a happy medium here.

  67. wut about alts? this account is only 2 years, but i’ve been here for over six

    and nice work guiz

  68. 5 yrs membership, 5 bil total score, and 5k forum posts. Do it.

  69. 3 years and 20bil grand total, gotta reward activeness no?

  70. bawww, I can’t connect, I’m using that velocity engine. :(

  71. 3 year member status, 5 or 10 bil grand total, 1k or 1.5k forum posts… things like that. things that show you’re active on the game or within the community.

    ______________________________________

    This.

  72. Looks like I fit the status. Going on 6 years next month.

  73. WTF! No more simfile DB?! That was the main reason why I joined FFR. *sigh* Now where am I gonna download simfiles other than bemanistyle? Puzzle depressed :(

  74. I’m still for having veteran status being either 3-4 years, or at least Tier 4.

  75. subscriber privileges for 7+ years here

  76. The issue with member length is alts or changed usernames. I’ve been around for over 3 years (under mikezdragon24). Perhaps allow consolidation or create some way to prove that you’ve been around for so long + 5 or 10 billion points and 1k (or more) posts? Because, most of the features are more about the game, not based on how long you’ve been around. Out of all of the almost two million (yeah, including alts), what’s the percentage of them actually really playing the game and not using this site as a facebook/myspace/social network? Plan_Bsk has the right idea on people complaining about certain things they don’t have. I want the veteran status on THIS account. Alt perspective~

  77. To put it simply, none of us have the time to go around and verify all of your old accounts to make sure they match and then give you that status. We can work on developing the game or we can work on babysitting the database because you can’t stick with one name. Take your pick.

  78. No more Simfile data base ? , I quit FFR

  79. Just a thought. Thanks for acknowledging it.

  80. is it possible to just change the name of your main, for example in rune scape you can change your username but your login name is the same. and to change it again you need to wait like 30 days. (just throwing ideas out)

  81. To the users that are complaining about being ~SUPER ULTRA ELITE SUBSCRIBERS~:
Quit your bitching and complaining. It’s a game, and the dev’s have been working their ASSES off to get it back up. Enjoy their hard work, and be thankful that they even brought it back in the first place.

On a different note, It feels DAMN good to be back!

  82. Also, leonddrmaster is a gay fish.

  83. leonddrmasta*
    That is all.

  84. Hey look I qualify both ways for being a veteran.

I feel so old, I started this in 6th grade, and now I’m a Junior in high school…

  85. lol assninja just won

  86. Why don’t we just simply make the new “veteran feature” accessible to everyone?

And just find another way to accent Veteran status instead?

No one should be denied those features simply because they are new here.

  87. the featureswill be awesome and its another way of saying thank you for playing ffr =) thats the way i look at it, and if you’re new then you just have to get a few billion points.

  88. 4 years at the end of this month. Free subscriber features, aw hell yea…

  89. _5238.swf

  90. Merk, we all know that at the end of the day, you are the winrar.

  91. Hmmm…I’ve been around for 6.1 years, but I just hit 3 billion awhile ago. You guys are insane.

  92. Oh wow, I’m so excited that the site is back on! I haven’t been here in ages! Anyone remember me? :O

  93. *orgasims*

  94. *orgasims again*

  95. 5 years right here. Bam a lam. And 3 bil will take me a while; brb giving pw to someone to up my score kthx.

  96. Member Length = Veteran Status
Grandtotal amount = Elite FFR Gamer Status
    ……
    etc

  97. There should also be some sort of recognition for the pre-apocalyptic folks here.

  98. i have 3 accounts with 3 billion+ :) im a triveteran!

  99. Yea, veteran Status should be higher,

  100. Thanks for getting flash flash revolution back online guys, you deserve it!:-)

  101. So I’m going to have veteran status? My e-penis just got bigger. ;)

  102. historically, simfile databases haven’t run into anyone with enough of a beef to take legal action. I totally agree that it’s not worth the risk, though. the DB probably shouldn’t have been up in the first place.

thanks to everyone who’s making this site more and more usable. you guys rock.

  103. Plan_Bsk81127 wrote: People here are just lol. ——————————————————

I don’t know why I didn’t find this funny as hell the first time I read it… But holy hell, I read that last sentence there a little better this time I guess. Talk about hypocrisy. lmao, gg plan… gg.

  104. I wanna be staff :(

  105. What you guys are doing is awesome. Keep up the great work! I’ve been a member since 2005 and when the site went down the only thought that i could come up with was “FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU” =P

  106. Did you come back? *-*!!!!!
    That’s AMAZING!!!
I was wondering if this webpage will be closed indefinitely… but I was happily wrong!!
    Thanks :D !!! I really missed ya!.

  107. I know all the ideas for veteran status are similar, but let me just give me two cents. I think it should be a time requirement (~3 years) and proof of activity (3~5 billion Grandtotal OR 1k~1.5K posts).

Anyways, the progress so far is way beyond my expectations and I can’t wait to see how much the site is going improve over the next month or so.

  108. Finaly, FFR gettin’ it’s act together. Happy about the removals, stoked about sub changes, and new things are always good.

  109. When is this getting implemented, or is it already?

  110. I was wondering if u can send me my made files back please

  111. “- The Simfile Database has been disabled and will not be brought back at any time in the future. We don’t have the time nor patience to deal with a huge DMCA liability.”

How about talking to other simfile sites adminitrators and asking them how do they deal with it? or is that too much socializing for Synthlight?

  112. How bout you all stop bitching about who gets veteran status, let the admins decide, and be happy that you have your FFR :)

  113. Gonna miss Tass on FFR =/

  114. As far as VC, is there a timeframe or expected date on that?

  115. Much <3 to the admins for briging back FFR and fixing it to bring it back to what it was before the site went down.

And to those who helped put it on LDs site when it was down.
