WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!!!

Posted in Flash Flash Revolution on October 29th, 2008

For those that know me, or have ever seen a picture of me, you’ll know that I sport a retro Philadelphia Phillies hat every day…  and have for the past 8 or so years.  The last championship for any major team in the city of Philadelphia was 1983, a year before I was born.  It is so sweet to finally have a championship back in my City of Brotherly Love, and even moreso that it is my beloved Phillies.

I’m sure the majority of you guys don’t care about sports or baseball, but I do… and this is a moment in my life that I won’t ever forget.  I flew across country, back to Philly, just to attend Game 3 of the World Series, and it was one hell of a game.  I really am beyond words.

Congrats Phillies, and I can’t wait for the 2009 season!!!!!

-Tass

PS – A small spontaneous contest… 10,000 credits for the 1st correct answer.  How many more HBP does Chase Utley need to be the modern career record holder?

  1. woop woop

  2. Fuck yeah!

  3. haha i was watching the game a bit ago in a restaurant

  4. I just saw the ending. Freaking epic

  5. I honestly don’t even know who the Phillies were playing against. Heck, what is baseball?

  6. w00t.

  7. 174?

  8. Phillies = win.

  9. Sorry for the double post, but I was actually betting on them to win.

  10. He needs to be hit 202 more times…. I think…

  11. 202. =]

I only watched a bit of the series.

  12. crap ninja’d.

  13. 203 to break the record.

  14. 203 is the answer

  15. Super got ninja’d.

  16. umm i got 204… but idk

  17. He said /modern/ record. The modern record (according to what I looked up0 is held by Craig Biggio with 285. Utley has been hit 83 times, so he needs 202 more beans to get it…

    Right?

  18. Shit well i was wrong anyway

  19. 4 more HBP to tie, 5 more to be the record holder

  20. That’ll make him tied with Biggio.

203 will put him in front of Biggio, and he will then hold the record.

  21. on espn.com it said “Biggio will pass Jennings, whose 287th and final HBP came in 1903.” and he has been hit 83 times…

  22. Ok, since I’m off by a lot, I’m going to go with 205 since no one has said it. =D
    /fail

  23. double post but o sh*t 205

  24. Damnit. Way to pay attention.

  25. Jennings isn’t the modern record holder, Biggio is.

  26. I guess I’m wrong?

  27. omfg dammit.

  28. Biggio has only been hit 205 times. Well according the records in the internet.

  29. 285 times.

  30. he will be the modern record holder. it doesnt say with the modern record holder.

  31. 122?

  32. Yeah crap that’s what i meant lol

  33. Just to clarify, ’285 times’ wasn’t my guess – just saying that Biggio was hit 285 times.

  34. where is Tass!!!

  35. Then it would be 202.

  36. No 203 to break the record 202 to tie

  37. No, 202 would be to tie, like foil said before, go read up a bit.

  38. I’ll guess 204, though.

  39. but the record is 287 by jennings.

  40. Oh, tie? Then 205.

  41. What kmay said.

  42. Oh wait, it’s for career not a year xD

  43. 6 more for the left-handed record

  44. well duh wut i said.

  45. Wait s#@# it is 287.

  46. the record as of now.

  47. Tass clearly said MODERN record holder. Jennings doesn’t count, guys.

  48. Yep. I checked too.

  49. So who would you consider to be the current MODERN record holder to be?

  50. modern as in new. It says nothing about the previous record being “modern”

  51. Craig Biggio. I’ve said this like 4 times already.

  52. 205

  53. I’ve checked various places and got various numbers. 198?

  54. lol espn.com i dont think i can get a wrong answer…

  55. True. I stand by my 205, then.

  56. haha even if you do EAG will get the credits by less then a second >:o

  57. baseball’s allright

  58. Congratulations to the Phillies. I was actually hoping for a Rays Cinderella story this year. It would have been awesome. But the Phillies are cool, too.

  59. I stand by 202. He was hit once in the post season, and I don’t think that was in this year’s stats. So if he was hit 84 times as of today (83 career+1 this post season) 202 is correct, that would give him 286>285

  60. I don’t think postseason stats are taken into account.

    They are separate.

  61. I don’t see why they wouldn’t…. But I guess if Tass hasn’t said anything, 202 and 203 are both wrong anyways.

  62. the answer has to be 203.

  63. Yeah, my brother posted that. And then Sh4d0w made him look like an idiot.

  64. Looked it up. they don’t count. 203 is right…. Unless there’s something we don’t know.

  65. WIN!

Anyone going to the parade Friday? I’ll be there for sure.

  66. It really was an amazing game.
Mom was rooting for TB x.x but me and my bro were for the Phillies, even though we’re all normlly sox fans -_-
It does make the Red Sox look like crap for losing to the team that lost the World Series, but the Pillies deserved this win, hands down.

  67. Pillies?

Anyways, the most common answers are 202-205.

    I still stand by 205.

  68. He needs 122 to tie the record, 123 to have the record. :D

  69. Diddy, what record are you looking at? Either way, you got ninja’d by me if that’s right.

  70. haha samurai TASS HURRY BEFORE I SUMMON THE DEMONS FROM HADES!

  71. Don’t. Just summon phantoms. Everyone knows the demons are uncontrollable.

  72. LOl I typed Pillies, backsaced, and fixed it about three times… and still it ended up being posted. I just skip fail and die.

  73. *hangs self*
    backspaced*
    Good night. I need sleep.

  74. I have no idea where I got it from. I looked it up and it said 205, yet it could be for most by a pitcher. Who knows?!

  75. fine TASS HURRY BEFORE I SUMMON THE “PHANTOMS” OF THE UNDERWORLD. wow that is horrible its like saying ill throw pansies at you.

  76. I’ll throw pansies at you, kmay. I’m not kidding.

  77. God, that is horrible. Screw phantoms. Who cares if the demons kill you? At least you got what you wanted.

  78. 206

  79. “Biggio, the Astros’ second baseman, is about to pass Hall of Famer Hughie Jennings and set the all-time record for being hit by pitches. It’s already happened an extraordinary 285 times over his 20-year career. With three more plunks — he once suffered five of ‘em in a single week in May of 2000 — Biggio will pass Jennings, whose 287th and final HBP came in 1903.”

The record is 287, so I stand by 205.

  80. My Teacher is mrs. Howard, guess who her son is =p

  81. Who’s up for ITG in the cafeteria tomorrow????

  82. haha. he has 7 minutes to live, but remember ‘x” marks the spot. Sorry i watched saw last night.

  83. Which one?

  84. Actually, to be the MODERN one, he needs to be plunked 104 times. ;D

  85. Oshi~ I just realized that this has practically turned into another Prochat.

  86. CRAP. I mean 204 times. :D

  87. Where’s the token?

  88. Samurai, like foil said, he asked for the modern one, not the one from 1903.

  89. wtf modern. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/modern
get it right guys. He asked us how many more times does he need to be hit to be the newest record holder.

  90. Either way, that’s still wrong. 204 would merely tie it. 205 breaks it.

  91. Where’s the token?

  92. wheres the token?

  93. What token?

  94. I am sorry but the way Tass asked it says “How many more HBP does Chase Utley need to be the modern career record holder?” TO BE not TO BEAT are you guys no crack?

  95. Token? lol…

  96. To be the record holder, he would have to beat the old record.

  97. o.0 i wants a token. to bad there is no token reward

  98. OH HELL NUH.

    Tass is offline.

  99. I am no crack.

  100. haha nuclear. hes been offline for like 15 mins, and the demons are officially summoned. GL everyone

  101. FIRST COMMENT!!!!!!!!!

  102. A little late, diddle.

  103. 2nd

  104. 5th

  105. He would need 205 if he were the PITCHING record holder. :O
202 to tie Biggio, 203 to be the modern day, 204 to tie Jennings, 205 to beat Jennings.
He needs to be hit 54 times in a season to tie THAT RECORD, so 27 to tie it, 28 to break it.
Most in a GAME is 6, but I am guessing his max is one or 2, so 5,6, or 7.

  106. wtf is happening. o yea the demons must be harvesting their souls

  107. 204 behind Hughie Jennings (active 1891-1981)
202 behind Craig Biggio (active 1988-2007)
148 behind Jason Kendall (active 1996-Present)

  108. Damnit, kmay. You killed Tass too early and now we’ll never know who won.

  109. TOKEN!!!

  110. And what the hell is with this token? There is no token here.

  111. 205 to pass Hughie Jennings
    203 to pass Craig Biggio
    149 to pass Jason Kendall

  112. Philly rep

  113. If the token is Tass, I want it.
    ….
    Really. I want it.

  114. 206 XD

  115. Someone sure wanted to downvote a bunch of people.
That’s why I upvoted them just to be an ass.

  116. Haha, I wonder who that would be…

  117. 207 hell like i know anyone in baseball. what is it

  118. HELL YEA GO PHILS WOOOOOO PARTY ALL NIGHT WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO DURNK

  119. WOOO IM DURNK

  120. what token? no token…

and, the answer is 203. Baseball’s “modern” era is post-1900, meaning anything done pre-1900 is still counted for all-time records, but not “modern” records. So Jennings is all-time, but not modern. Biggio is right, at 285. Utley has 83, so needs 203 to reach 286 and pass him, which would make him the record holder.

I think I’ll still give credits to the 1st person who said 202 also though, since technically he’d be the record holder at 285, just not the sole record holder.

  121. Now maybe everyone will believe me now that the red guy said it. -____-

    Thanks for the credits.

  122. lol foil

I agreed with you. I’m safe.

    Thanks for the credits!

  123. Ew, sports.

  124. xD

  125. By the way.
You were in Philadelphia, and you didn’t come up here to visit me, Tass?
    D:
    </3

  126. So Monday night my roommate tried to go to that game. He was gone all day and didn’t get back till 7:30 AM. When I asked him where he’d been, he said he tried to get to the game but it was canceled. I laughed at his epic fail.

  127. sarah: canada is still a ways from philly.

marax: there was a game monday… it was just raining, cold, and was suspended after 6 1/2 innings and then finished earlier tonight.

  128. … jennings record was set in 1903… or are you saying that he starting getting hit before then.

  129. Hi.

  130. Go phiiaaaaaaaaaaas

  131. kmay, yes.

  132. Just aiding in my reasoning of quitting FFR and leaving this community. You can’t be biased in your opinions that are displayed sitewide.

  133. Because of a Phillies news announcement? For fuck’s sake, he’s just happy.

  134. It was actually suspended after 5 1/2 innings since the full 6th inning hadn’t been played.

  135. I would agree with Mr. Nothing if FFR was a tight ass community.

  136. im pretty sure its 203

  137. Yeah it is 203 at least i think.

  138. Oh yeah…… well…. my city hosts the College World Series every year! =P hmph!

  144. the answer is 219

  145. 204

  146. my bad, 205 to beat, but I think someone already won, if not, 206 since it hasn’t been said yet

  147. gz to phillies!!!!

  148. 2 news posts in one day, 666 run

  149. Yeah, I already won. The answer was 203.

  150. i don’t think anyone should have one. There was not a descriptive enough question for a right answer.

  151. damn phillies

  152. kmay, don’t be stupid.

  153. There was nothing tricky about it, and it was plenty descriptive because he asked for the MODERN record. I’ve already said this before.

I would like to hear what you think made it ‘not descriptive enough’.

  154. You guys should stop getting so worked up about 10,000 credits.

  155. YEAH BOY!!!!! I live in philly and saw the games. About time we won something besides the Arena Bowl, much love to the SOULS also!!!!!.

  156. lol at 155 my answer- 271

  157. Think about it this way- If the Rays had won, like I wanted, he would have posted a Rays bashing post. Don’t try to say i’m wrong.

  158. Is no one paying attention? Shadowdevil and myself already got the credits.

And Mr. Nothing, you’re wrong. If the Rays had won, I don’t think he would’ve posted anything.

  159. Sure foil.

  160. Post the winners in the initial post so people will know!! D: Or at least say that it’s no longer in progress. :/

  161. the record is 287 so he has to be hit 204 more times. the record is held by Hughie Jennings. so yeah 204 more times..

  162. jk he whould have to be hit 205 more times to be the record holder. 204 to tie

  163. *grumble grumble* Tampa Bay *grumble grumble* my Red Sox *grumble grumble*

  164. 205

  165. lol people the answer is 202(me guessing)

  167. Its about time Phillies i’ve waited 28 years for this woooo hooooo!!!!!!!

  168. i am from philly and the last game got me so excited. I thought we were going to lose but we wone.
