Regarding missing scores

Posted in Flash Flash Revolution on April 10th, 2015

FFR Community,

On April 9th, Velocity made an error in a script which resulted in a large amount of valid scores being dropped from the database when they should not have. The only scores affected were those where the combined “Perfect + Good + Average + Miss + Boo” were greater than the amount of notes in the song. The exact problem was that “Boo” should not have been included in this check. AAAs and incomplete scores were not affected by this mistake.

The following scores have been recovered:
     •   Complete database backup made on October 24, 2014
     •   All scores recorded from: April. 7th, April. 8th, and April 9th.
     •   noname219′s efforts to collect archives from external sources will also fill a number of missing scores.
     •   Saved replays

We will be continuing to recover these over the next few days:
     •   10th Official Tournament dashboard scores

Additionally, we will be able to manually recover any scores submitted to the Score Recovery Form. These steps will restore a large portion of the lost scores, but will not account for any scores recorded between October 25, 2014 through April 6, 2015.

  1. FFR has reached terminal velocity.

  2. SHOTS FIRED?

  3. okay so now that ffr is back up (pun intended), I just want to give my two cents

I personally think that it’s fucking embarrassing that you restored from a database made in October, and that changes were being actively implemented on live site. I get that scripting errors occur; I’ve made scripting errors and nuked shit too but it’s been in a test environment with a robust backup plan.
What does that say for the future of FFR if there aren’t apparent safeguards? What would have been your game plan if it wasn’t just scores that got deleted?

This was handled quickly, and handled well, but goddamn, you’re literally telling us that you don’t have a backup of the last 6 months?

  6. I love how I started playing actively on the site in late October. My Fcs went from 697 to 225 and none of my scores will be recovered. I think I might be the one that got one of the biggest knockback. Amazing.

  7. 8 days too late~

  8. Well my fc’s went from 1280~ > 825 and those songs that got wiped arent really my piece of cake… And since this game is pretty much only played for the statistics I kinda lost the last bit of joy of playing this shit…

  9. Meh, im ok with this. Fcs dont matter anymore since raw is implemented and now i have something to do, go through and legit play all the songs again. :) didnt like some of my scores anyways

  10. What choof said. This is unbelievably dumb. Even low-key office documents get backed up, but you fail to have any kind of backup facility for the scores of hundreds of thousands of players? Wow. I worked hard to get the absolute best scores I could get on every single song and now hundreds of song scores are gone or will get set back to much worse mash FCs I got last year. Good job.

  11. Only powermashers suffered. 5/5

  12. … Disregard my last comment :D I have like half of my scores wiped /,,/

  13. Really sucked to get FC scores that had like 10-50 goods and only a few boos to get destroyed
I had songs with 1 or 2 boos that were FC’s and blackflags…
    Gone

  14. fcs dont matter anymore anyways. but yeah i lost a good amount of booflags and double booflags too, oh well, scores can be gotten again

  15. good thing i havent played this game since october…

    2007

  16. So if i saved a couple replays between October 25, 2014 and April 6, 2015, then the score will automatically be updated sometime?

  17. ^^^^^ Or do I have to submit the scores?

  18. Everything mentioned besides the Score Recovery Form will be automatically restored.

  19. Okay, thank you. That’s what I thought but it didn’t mention that the replay scores hadn’t been added yet, so I just wanted to clarify.

  20. This is some ol bullshit

  21. fucking lol

  22. Average rank went from 299 to 1,308. 400 FCs gone. Good thing I really started getting back into FFR in November so that nothing I’ve accomplished makes any difference. Scores in the top 4 that I’ll probably never manage again. Also was trying to get the 100% public songs played token… My god.

  23. ALL my FC’s gone :l

  24. FCs 120 -> 71
    Tier Points ~150 -> 18

    great

  25. Holy shit. Spent the last few months trying to FC all of the hip hop songs, was down to the last two and now this. No database backup for 6 months? Hire some new god damn DBAs.

  26. haven’t been here in a while but fucking lol’d at october 2014 backup

you guys fucked up big time

  27. This is a stupid question but how does that overwriting from October 2014 batch work? Are you going to overwrite only the missing scores or just the scores which were better in October?

  28. Incompetence at its best, plz die in a car accident Velo.

  29. If you want to make it easier on yourself, you can right click the graph at the end of a replay (R^3) just like you would normally so you can submit those screenshots to the Recovery Form.

  30. dang phil!

  31. I started playing again in January after taking a 4 year hiatus. Fucking great.

  32. This is fucking bullshit.

  33. I’ve really play FFR since the 17th february 2015, so 850 songs, 140 Fc’s and lot’s of time to spend again on this game … OK, i will, but i’ll take a break before…

  34. agh fuckkk

  35. Sad day

  36. considering all the good Velocity’s done for ffr, you can’t really stay mad at him. That being said, nice one Velocity.
    I haven’t played in a while, now I hope I haven’t played since October =/

  37. How long until that database backup from October gets implemented? If I played the song recently, will it get overwritten by a better score from October? I don’t want to clean up my ranks if they’d get overwritten by a lower score.

  38. Nvm it’s done lol

  39. Everyone makes mistakes, and this shit’s free right?
    So I can’t complain.

  40. On the forum for this problem, noname mentioned using webcache links to look up scores that you’d saved before this crash. Any chance I could submit those pictures to the Score Recovery Form? (i.e. picture of the webcache for Across Rooftops would show I had a 19-1-0-5)

  41. For the creepers, the backup has been restored. We will continue working on restoring other archive sources over the next few days and make another post on completion.

  42. 2015-04-10 : 16:25 to 20:55, 21:46 to 21:49
    2015-04-11 : 00:29 to 02:03, 16:19 to 19:51
    2015-04-12 : 22:00 to 23:56
    = 11h37 +1h for setting/zipping/sending data (total files : 1343, raw size : 2,94 Go, zip size : 354 Mo)

  43. can you take my word for 1-0-0-1 on love hurts and 4-0-0-1 on go beyond? i remember clearly getting those but i got no proof

  44. I guess the database doesn’t have a recycle bin

  45. @klimtkiller : I double checked and you should recover those scores once my backups are applied

  46. Noname should get promoted for doing all of this.

  47. What is the status on where recovery is at now?

  48. i didnt save a replay of my 4-0-0-1 on you time DX

  49. I guess an error has been made: replays of songs played with rates are now in the leaderboards, example: http://www.flashflashrevolution.com/levelstats.php?level=1214 .

  50. i dont care what FFR throws at me, you cant keep this beastness down. :P
