New Token Type: Support Tokens
Ahoy freaks! (common.. I had to say at least one thing that sounded like a pirate.)
Based on countless threads, the last news story, aim messages sent to me and PM’s, we have decided to launch a mixture of album sales with Support Tokens. We will also be offering separate Support Token purchases in the future.
To break it down, a Support Token is a special token (aka level) that you receive from FFR when you purchase certain items. These items are intended to help not only FFR but the musicians that support FFR. A percentage of every album sale will go to the artist and the remainder will go towards FFR daily costs. As a thank you for the support, we push a special level into your account which can be seen in your profile.
To get things rolling we have put up Spook Goblin’s (For Great Justice!) album + 2 brand new tracks for sale. The album will be available immediately after purchase for download and the download page will immediately activate the Dendrite V2 Support Token on your account. All purchases are currently handled by paypal but will also accept credit cards.
Just to break the process down one last time
2) download album or visit this page to activiate your token level
(Also available from the FFR Store dropdown menu)
3) go here to play the level within the support genre
Simple? Clear? I hope so. Maldon, Tass and myself have gone through many many sleepless hours in the past few days trying to make sure this process was as simple and clean as possible.
This new model will help bring in more prominent artists and will also ease the pain of trying to pay for the site expenses. If you have any additional ideas or suggestions, please let us know. I am scouring the forum and news stories to make sure I roll with the FFR public opinion.
Many of these artists have long contributed to the FFR we know and love. They understand the role we play in the community. Beyond just helping out FFR, purchasing these albums etc will help these (mostly) indie artists that produce music often without praise or pay.

Crobins, for those who purchased during the SMS test, we will be activating the level for them automatically.
Also, we plan at some point to bring the SMS option back into this as a way to make sure that people have a choice.

SYNTH:
Donation Leaderboards
People who donate get their own leaderboard, and the users that become top donator at any time get a token. The leaderboards are reset once a month. Donations under $5 will not be included on the leaderboards, and the first week of the leaderboards will not give out tokens, so there’s time to get actual donations in.
I like that idea better. There won’t be a ton of purchases n shit. You just donate straight to the site, and FFR deducts % to donate to the most stepped/most involves/most played artists.
I think competition in donating will result in high revenue for FFR.

Definite ups for making this a reality, and the new Support section looks fantastic in Blue. I agree it’s a better idea to have it on the token level ranks, too. Good luck on your sales – the new level is awesome!

Credit cards are supported by paypal. In fact, I don’t think you even need a paypal account.

Smartdude, when your payment clears through paypal, you can then do the download thing. Check your paypal account to figure out when it will clear. Most payments clear immediately but echeck from outside of the U.S. might take awhile.

Similar to the other Genre circles? Basically not blue (black), and most likely not an exact replica of the Skill token Genre? It’s your call, of course, but just my thoughts.

Does there really need to be a whole new genre for these songs? Can’t they just slip into the Token genre? If you have it, you have it regardless of which genre it appears in.
Unless you plan on adding 50 Support Tokens, it’s gonna be lonely in there.

I have a feeling there are going to be plenty more. And I can see it now, on my list of songs I haven’t FC’d, all the Support Tokens, with “I can’t afford to buy all this stuff to FC the tokens, so yeah. Go FFR.” next to them.

The day my parents are going to let me spend money on the internet, I’m going to support FFR by buying that album and maybe by making donation to the site. As long as I support my beloved FFR I’m happy. It has given me so much that I don’t know how to describe it.

So now that you’ve got the Support Token genre set up purchasing a song is only available for the upcoming 25 years?
I’m curious to know why you didn’t equalize the same amount of months/years as to a subscriber’s if you really wanted to raise money to help build the site?
By pricing $6.99 you include one song and a cd track when the FFR staff could have at least increased the amount of unlockable tokens and lessened the years so that more people are willing to purchase. Right?

we’re reaching out to the large labels and bands that we have contact with. we think they’ll like this unique and different outlet for their music… and the token is, of course, extra incentive to purchase for some users.

Sucks though because I don’t use paypal, and sure the hell don’t use credit cards. Although I would love to purchase the FGJ! album people that don’t use these options on the computer will never be able to support FFR or even unlock the tokens.

A small bug I noticed:
If you open and close the support genre, the 1 (page tab) remains after you close it.
It may just be because mine is empty, but it’s the second time I’ve tried this.

why when we buy the support tokens..we are only able to download the songs… like.. i know its for supporting and etc.. but im sure most of the people are like : what the heck ill just use limewire.. i know its stupid to think like this.. but why not pay to have the actual album shipped? and stuff… it would cost a little bit more..but at least..we can have a real cd..etc..? + the token

We are selling the album well below what it would cost to buy it in the store. Last time I checked, the price for a new cd was around 15 bucks. Sure you could download anything, but how does that help the artist? If you like their music I hope you support them so they can continue to make more.
In addition, at this time there is no way to gift the album, but we would love to offer it in the future.

i think its the biggest shit ive ever heard. some ppl can buy that but other ppl like me dont have the money to buy songs for a flash game. i like the game but this new genre isnt good. we reach 600 songs soon but u still cant have 6 non-fced songs because u need that damned support token. this site has suscriptions and fanarticles. i thought i can reach all my targets just with skill, but now i need money to reach my goals in a FLASH GAME. some ppl want the album but that should be another part. this shouldnt be counted as a regular song…so pls think about it.

Heaton1402, It isn’t in a public genre, so it doesnt affect your average rank. This genre is purely for support to the site and the personal benefit of having a complete album for yourself.

Anyways, doesn’t anyone find it annoying where the new genre in placed, like its second on the list and it’s a genre that many players will never even use. I think it should be moved further down to the middle, that way whether you’re scrolling up or down it wont get in your way too much. Or perhaps removing the Genre itself for people who haven’t bought any support tokens. Make it appear once you buy them. I dunno, it’s just bugging me :p
