Limited Beta of Evil Profile Pets!
Some of you may have noticed the profile pets windows on some of the subscriber profiles. We have been testing a new feature for profiles that will transform a small section on your profile into a piece of a map that other / all profile pets can travel on.
What are profile pets? They are evil but they are starting out innocent. Profile pets are essentially their own entities on the server which think and move by themselves 24/7. Your pet is actually wandering around while you sleep, doing what it is driven to do.
While the feature set is currently low, we need the public to activate their profile pets over the next 24 hours so that we can load test the server and see what kind of demand 1,000,000 wandering and thinking profile pets does to the server. 
After this first 24 hours, no new public members will be able to activate pets until version 1.3.
Use your imagination when you see this early beta. Think food, think audio, think pets stealing things, think of customizing, think of abused pets banning people out of their profile out of spite. Pets will be a feature you can turn on or off. Just like the profile chat.
Thanks everyone.. Just name that pet in your profile and let it go do it’s thing. You can follow it around via the link in the top of the profile pets window. You can give it food, clean it, free it from your pen and call it home. If your pet has wandered 20 or so profiles away and you call it, it takes about 2 seconds per profile when it is moving back at full speed.
Questions and comments? We would love to hear them. Profile pets is being headed up by Xelius & Nestlekwik with final approval on milestone features by Nestlekwik, JasonKey and Myself.
I have much more to report on from AdminCon2 but that will have to wait until tomorrow. I am about ready to pass out.

Just a quick question. Lets say we dont get a chance to feed them or clean them. Would they die?

Right now the plan is that they will not die unless there is an unfortunate circumstance and continued abuse.
Unless we have to reset or clear the pets for some unknown reason, everyone can keep their pets.
And yes.. even when your browser isn’t loaded and your computer is turned off, they are wandering and doing whatever it is they are supposed to do.

Synthlight & Other Admins:
There’s a glitch surrounding dying pets. If someone else wanders into your profile, while you’re still there, your pet freezes up. Then its name turns to “undefined”, with 0 health and 0 cleanliness.
Then you are forced to start over with a new pet.
The only way people can keep their pets alive anymore is by setting them free, to assert they aren’t wandering into their own profile.
Everyone I’ve spoken with in the FFR chat has had the exact same problem. Fix this please. Thanks.

yea guys im having the same problem as Sane is, i’ve already had to restart my pet around 12 times (not because im a bad owner trust me i should know, got a rabbit and used to have a cat, the cat lived to be 20) so i don’t know what’s happening but please fix it i love my little pet it’s sooo cute!!

Yeah, I’ve had to reset it about 7 times now. Because, even after setting it free, it still eventually wanders back to my profile. Then someone else walks in, and it dies.
This is really frustrating. -.-;; A lot of pets are going to die, randomly, after the 24 hour deadline for activation.
And everyone seems to be having this problem. Only, for some reason, I’ve been the only one yet to notice that it’s a glitch. A bunch of people think the pets are “killing” eachother. I sure hope that’s not the case, or else that would be really lame.

My pet has yet to die even among the many circumstances people are posting about. If anyone else has a problem with a pet dying, can we please log it with more detail (what browser are you using, what time of the day was it, the name of the profile you are in if it isn’t your own – more details such as that)? Feel free to post these in my profile and I will gather the info to work with Xelius on remedying the errors.

I already mentioned the only particular circumstance: Someone must enter your profile while your pet is in that profile.
Everyone is having this exact same problem. The browser and time of the day are irrelevant. I’ve tried all combinations of the two above factors, without success.
The only factors are those outlined in my original bug report at post #28.

This is kinda cool but I want to be able to tell my pet what to do like fight other pets =P. that would be some pretty awesome graphical fun. And what exactly are they supposed to do? Other than monitor the sight heheh.

This is probably due to the glitch I mentioned in post #28. When you left for a short period of time, someone else must have came into your profile and “killed” your pet.
It’s getting very frustrating having to deal with this glitch…

It was probably just me, but once, the flash froze my browser up, saying that there was an error in the script. My Firefox is kinda retarded anyway…but it only happened once. Stopped the script and the pet was frozen. :

Even without this glitch, the pets die of hunger too fast for us, probably after 8 hours of sleep a pet would be long dead.

[FOR THE ADMiNS]
Ok… I created a pet, ActionHeroSatan. I set him free and watched him go through 10 profiles. As he went to each profile, I clicked on that existing profile to see what was up. Each time it said user name already taken, so I refreshed the page. After refreshing, I found my pet in a different profile. Only once was I able to see him in an acctual profile. Well, now I called him back and watched him come through the 10 or so profiles back to mine. However, when I left my profile and came back I didn’t see him. It might have to do with the loading I guess.. but I don’t think any of the pets are acctually dying.

Hey guys, I think i’ve caught on now. Profile pets are supposed to kill eachother. If your pet is wandering and it goes into another persons pet room it kills it. The same thing will happen if your pet isn’t going free and another pet goes into your profile. Either that or there’s a glitch lol.
P.S. add more features, let us be able to customize them!

The pets isn’t suppose to die, they just pass out for a short amount of time, so this is most certainly a glitch. I sleept for like 2 days.. but now I’m ready to look into this. Thanks everyone for reporting and please have patience while this gets resolved.

yeah….. umm i would make a pet, but the thing is that when my screen loads… it keeps saying connected i wait for like 2 hours, then it finally says “connection failed.” I WANT A PET!!!
