FFR STANDALONE!
Edit: It has been pointed out that our resident forum moderator Kayla, has long since had a reference and guide for the use of the stand alone system. Her contributions to the new guide have been essential, and the post has been improved dramatically as a consequence. Please thank psycho for her previous work, and for putting up with no one knowing it existed. A simultaneous ‘apologies’ and ‘thank you’ from the devs.
For the past forever people have been experiencing some form of lag or another while playing our beloved game. A solution to this problem has long since been found. What is it? The stand alone system! It has been documented, posted, reposted, reposted, reposted, and reposted over the past i-can’t-even-remember-how-long, but not once afaik has a thread been made. Until Today!
Put your hands together for justin_ator! The brave soul has pieced together a guide for you and your ffr-running-inept computer. Feel free to upvote, comment, pm, and/or thank him in some way!
Thank you, justin_ator. We love you.

Rushy did one a while back IIRC.

Finally! One more thing though; not everybody views the forums, and the people who are clueless are generally the ones who don’t view the forums. If there was an additional link for the standalone engine on the main page, such as on the top menu bar next to “FAQ”, that would be excellent. Submenu while hovering the mouse over it can include “main engine” and “velocity engine” for instance.

Thanks for making a Thread about this that didn’t just say “Here, use this Flash SA player, it worked best for me, and it will work best for you too.”
-
But seeing as how the thread has been locked, may want to edit the bits about posting questions there, and change it to “PM me or an Admin/Mod for further help.”

Awesome job Justin. Hopefully people will make good use of the sticky, especially since it made front page

Wait, I just read the guide. There’s no need to download the engine .swf to play on the standalone ?_?
When you open the standalone you just go to file then open and put in the link to the .swf.

“A solution to this problem has long since been been found.” Doesn’t that not make sence, or should there be a coma at the first been?

If you guys have complaints or queries, please do post them in that thread. It helps us/me refine the process/thread.

PS: Yeah It sucks you guys never even gave Psycho any credit she’s had that in a siggied thread for a while.
Good that you guys put it front page though I’m sure it’ll help someone.
Posted at 1:44am on September 2nd, 2011
Yeah Middy, we were all clueless about the stand alone stuff that Psycho had. I feel kinda bad, but it seems fine now.
Posted at 11:59pm on September 2nd, 2011

Works great! already got some better scores due to reduced lag.
Posted at 3:48pm on September 7th, 2011
Great to hear!
Posted at 5:40pm on September 7th, 2011
I almost quit playing FFR because my laptop wouldn’t play the game without massive amounts of lag. Thanks for the front-page post.
Posted at 6:14pm on September 7th, 2011
This guide doesn’t work with Macbooks. I can guarantee that right now. Because it will not open for my Macbook. So… It will probably make me quit.
Posted at 8:58pm on September 7th, 2011
King refer to Psycoangel’s post I think there’s something about the mac one there
Posted at 7:18am on September 8th, 2011
Well we tried to include the Flash downloads for Mac as well, will they still not start and run the standalone?
Posted at 10:27pm on September 19th, 2011
I actually lag more with the stand alone then by playing with my browser the worse that happen normally with my browser is that the note seem blurry.
But with standalone sometime the note stop for half a second or so and suddendly jump back to where they are supposed to be this is a real pain for high level song.
Posted at 8:51pm on March 21st, 2012
errm… where is the engine exactly? i can find the .swf’s, but i cant find the engine anywhere
