FFR Launches First External Custom Embedded Version for Making April
For some time now we have been working towards creating a custom embedded version of FFR. Recently while I was in the middle of toying with the embed code, DrugstoreCowboy messaged me and told me about this really amazing band on Myspace that was interested in creating a custom embedded version. That is when it dawned on me that FFR would be a perfect tool to help promote bands externally while driving up the visibility of FFR itself. Why not gear a special version of all our products for use outside of the site?
Who was that interested band? That band was “Making April“. They are one of the top if not the top unsigned band on Myspace currently. Making April is a Rock / Alternative / Acoustic band based out of Cortlandt Manor, New York. They have aquired nearly 100,000 friends and around 40,000 song plays PER DAY on their Myspace page. You can imagine how floored I was when I heard they were fans of FFR and were excited to have a custom version created for them. Needless to say, I began work right away to complete this special version. Both Tass and DrugstoreCowboy started up the simfile group and within a couple days we had 3 solid files ready for the Making April embedded version.
What titles were chosen?
Song: “Jump In” Stepfile Author: DrugStoreCowboy
Song: “Roses & Butterflies” Stepfile Author: Neonatrias
Song: “Driveway” Stepfile Author: SulferDragon
You can play these levels exclusively for a few days on the Making April Myspace Page. These levels will be released over this weekend on FFR itself and I imagine more difficult versions will be released sometime in the future on FFR. Currently scores on external versions do not record but we are working on embedded stats and all kinds of interesting features for the external versions (including special hi-score lists).
I really hope you guys head on over to their Myspace and show your support. After hours upon hours of talking to Greg and others, I have learned that they are not only talented at what they do but also some of the coolest people you will ever meet. I sincerely wish them the best with their band and will be doing what we can to improve on the embedded player to bring them new songs and features on a regular basis. There are rumors circling of new songs twice a month on the Making April embedded version.
Again, thanks again to everyone involved in this effort. There are more people than I can thank that helped organize this effort very quickly. We look forward to creating custom versions for other bands. Afterall, we do exist to promote the music and provide entertainment.
*NOTE* SpinItUp!2 embedded version is also currently available to bands externally.
Cheers,

Driveway=Guru’s??
Posted at 8:24pm on July 18th, 2007
Haha people say “Ur game is hard!!!” Wow
Posted at 8:25pm on July 18th, 2007
Nicely done guys. I am happy to see the FFR embed take this shape! Just imagine the possibilities!
Posted at 8:25pm on July 18th, 2007
Remember, the external versions of songs are geared towards the public and will generally be on an easier scale than on FFR itself. There will be a seperate and more difficult version of Driveway on FFR itself.

that is one of the coolest ideas for FFR, its a great way to promote a band and your game

LMFAO FFR is the SHIT sometimes… they delete my comments because they can’t handle the truth XD
Posted at 8:32pm on July 18th, 2007
Great way to promote the band, yes! And I was reading some of hte comments on the band’s profile and people are really addicted to the game even though the songs are easy. This is cool!
Posted at 8:38pm on July 18th, 2007
so um why does tass get to be the only one who’s score records? I did pretty good on those songs XD but yeah good idea I can see FFR’s population sky rocketing soon.
Posted at 8:40pm on July 18th, 2007
Very nice with the embedding, I agree it’s an excellent way to promote a band. Keep up the good work!
Posted at 8:42pm on July 18th, 2007
Extremely Impressive beyond all reasoning, keep it up Synth!
Posted at 8:43pm on July 18th, 2007
Hay Synth, the link for DS’s profile doesnt work. Its DrugstoreCowboy, not DrugStoreCowboy.
Posted at 8:50pm on July 18th, 2007
Good stuff x]. I just tried out the songs on
their MySpace, and I must say I was impressed.
This is truely, Synth. Great job!
Posted at 8:51pm on July 18th, 2007
truely amazing* >_>

sweet
Posted at 8:59pm on July 18th, 2007
sync on these needs some major work. well driveway was way better than the other two, but those two deserve a look under the hood. it’s almost like they tried to use a steady bpm throughout which will never entirely work with a human drummer.
Posted at 8:59pm on July 18th, 2007
May I add a suggestion? Most people were bad at FFR because of the scroll speed. People got better because of screen cutting.
How about make the embedded versions default at 1.25x or even 1.5x scroll speed?
Posted at 9:09pm on July 18th, 2007
Where is todays skill tokens? =X
Posted at 9:12pm on July 18th, 2007
most new players feel that even c300 is too fast banditcom. think back to when you FIRST started. you have to think about hitting each arrow, and where your hands go, etc etc. faster arrows means you need faster reaction time.
also… the versions of driveway and roses & butterflies that are in the embedded player are not the versions that will be released on FFR. we have harder versions that flow better. we specifically asked neon and sulfer to dumb down their files for the embedded version.
Posted at 9:13pm on July 18th, 2007
and. today’s skill tokens are coming. lol. we’re coding them now.
Posted at 9:13pm on July 18th, 2007
Holy crap their profile has Plusle and Minun on it. Yuz.
I don’t think the embedded versions need the speed mods because they’re more previews for this game and the artists.
Posted at 9:15pm on July 18th, 2007
Rofle. I’d guess this is a reason where I shouldn’t have deleted my Myspace.
Posted at 9:21pm on July 18th, 2007
nice job guys love the new band cant wait for them to come out on ffr
Posted at 9:26pm on July 18th, 2007
That’s all awesome but… the people who are posting at their MySpace…
“damn ur game is hard

good idea tho
get some nu songs up!!
=D”
“id totally buy ur game if you made it for the real ddr”
“hey ur music is fuckin sweet do u have the code to get the ddr thing”
“Hey.
I love your game.
It’s addicting.
But it’s wicked hard!!!”
What bothers me that they think it is their game and don’t realize it is an actual site.
Posted at 9:28pm on July 18th, 2007
“most new players feel that even c300 is too fast banditcom. think back to when you FIRST started. you have to think about hitting each arrow, and where your hands go, etc etc. faster arrows means you need faster reaction time.”
It’s only “fast” because their muscles aren’t used to it yet. It’ll always be too “fast” in the beginning, no matter if it’s C300 or C375 or C450. It’s much harder though to play bunched up, no matter what. 1.25x would be better…
You don’t start off players at 1x speed on DDR as a suggestion, so why here? >_>

Don’t be so protective Cabbage. You have to realize that this is brand new for their crowd and that Making April has gone out of their way to put our logo and our name in a huge font. Be proud of this. Be happy that we are introducing new people to rhythm gaming as a genre.
Cheers,
Synthlight

thanks again to Synthlight, DrugstoreCowboy, and everyone else behind the scenes that made this possible! we’re going to send some more songs over and hopefully in time, we’ll have all of our tracks up on FFR.
Posted at 9:56pm on July 18th, 2007
I went and checked the comments on their page and everyone is really psyched about it. Good job guys, it seems that you’ve found quite a well to tap in.
Posted at 9:57pm on July 18th, 2007
i was gonna complain about no speed mods on it, but then i realized that you said there were gonna be better versions on FFR itself :3
Posted at 9:59pm on July 18th, 2007
This is awesome! The best part is looking at their comments. I’ve seen a few where people have said “i basically live on ffr now, i hate you.” Good publicity is what this site needed
. And yeah, i was also a bit mad there wasnt speed mods
but i like the band. Good songs
Posted at 10:14pm on July 18th, 2007

wow pretty nice and i’m liking the new spin it up, it look kind of ITGified, if you could do that percentage for FFR the game that’d be awesome, but one miracle at a time
Posted at 10:21pm on July 18th, 2007
Wow, that’s incredibly awesome. I wonder how many new members are going to join this site now.
Posted at 10:23pm on July 18th, 2007

Posted at 11:41pm on July 18th, 2007
Nice.
Posted at 12:08am on July 19th, 2007
This is a great way to advertise both FFR and upcoming bands. Whoever came up with the idea deserves a cookie. I hope makingapril gets a huge record deal. They rock.
Posted at 12:10am on July 19th, 2007
rofl, its okay because i AAA’d it =]
and it took forever because of no speedmods!
lol
Posted at 12:40am on July 19th, 2007
Suggestion: Mario/Trip to the moon diffculity for one of the songs. To hard might put them off. I know I really enjoyed a gentle start all those years ago.
Besides that this is incredibly good marketing Synth is getting closer to his world domination
Posted at 12:52am on July 19th, 2007
Now all he needs is an country. FFRtopia! I like the sound of that. Mwuahahaha
