Menu Music Results
Ahem……..so uh…yeah……..sorry about the wait! :] I got around to listening to all your submissions, and I must say, you guys are a talented bunch! A lot of music that was submitted would be awesome for in-game material, but not quite fitting for menu music. There were a few that did stand out, and we’ve picked 3 winners for this contest; 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.
In third place, is “mfdat phantom”, with ‘Amanecer’ 
This one had a lot of energy to it, and had a splash of retro arcade style feel, which was awesome! Did some nice effects with your synths, and overall composition was pretty dope. Congrats on third place!
In second place, is “Championanwar”, with ‘Futuristic Utopia’
This one was a bit more relaxed, which is more towards what we were looking for in terms of menu music. I wasn’t 100% wow’d with the production of the track, but the feel that it gave was definitely “menuesque” if that makes any sense. Congrats on second place!
Our grand prize winner, is “SessileNomad” with ’45′
This one was really cool! It started off with a real chill groove, sent the pace for everything and introduced a nice pattern. The ambient pads definitely helped with the calming menu feeling, and then bringing in the dnb groove spiced it up a bit, which brought us what we were looking for. Congrats on the win!
The decisions are final, and have been agreed upon by myself, as well as the other staff. If you want specific feedback on your submission, send me a private message with your username and submitted song so I can go back and make notes. Thanks to those of you who submitted, and definitely keep your eyes open for the next music contest!

Like the little media player that was used, we should get like music of the week posted on the main page, have like people send in music and see who gets their music chosen to be one the main page for the week. Help get peoples music seen more.

Yup I like the third the most. I thought the winner wasn’t exactly right for menu music. The 2nd place one or the 3rd place would’ve been my top two.

Although I disagree with the winner as being the most appropriate for the menu music, I enjoyed listening to all three loops. Makes me want to hear what other people submitted.

Like most people seem to, I really dig mfdat phantom’s, both as a song and as a menu selection! I think it’s perfect for a menu, especially with the way everything sort of drops near the end, and then picks back up before the loop. Still, all three are good. I’m not attached to the menu song we have now since I’m new, so I won’t really miss it

I liked them all! But I -was- given some guidelines to follow when I spoke with the other staff about menu music, so “45″ came the closest to what we were looking for, in terms of fitting the criteria. But as velocity said, it’ll probably end up being that you can choose which one you’d want out of the three

I like all three of them. Third is my favorite. Then comes first. And in last, for me, is second. But this is by very small margins. I’d love to be able to choose. Just get rid of the current menu music AND THE RESULTS MUSIC! lol

I loved Futuristic Utopia. It loops better than any of them. Almos seemless end to beginning loop. That one would be my choice, although mdat phantom was really good too.

I know that you guys were looking for new files instead of old ones to replace the menu music, but I honestly think that {Rose} would be great menu music. I use on Velo’s engine.

I really enjoyed 45! However I think the looping should be edited before being put in game. It sounds weird and unnatural for the moment.

The most suitable positions imo, Amanecer Azul = Menu, Futuristic Utopia = Shop, 45 = Result/Challenge.

3rd and 1st place were amazing =) 2nd place didn’t really do anything for me.
I think 1st place would be great as an actual stepped song, as it’s got that slower ambient beat and that really fast dnb sound that would make for some good jumpstream.
I think 3rd place would’ve worked better for menu music, but I am in no way complaining.

This was a really poorly put together contest. Was no comment on judging, submissions weren’t even listed let alone available for users to listen to. Community wasn’t considered in fact; just the staff. Took well over a month to judge as well… Kind of what I’d expect out of this website after disappearing for half a year randomly.

Am I the only one who notices that the 3rd place song was made of some of the same sounds used in Awake – Eternity?

All three submissions were amazingly done, i do believe Utopia best fit tho partly due to the same structuring of the previous menu songs, progressive lead in with a big finish, the other submissions still rockd the house tho! gratz to the winners!

3rd is basically 2-3 vengeance synths which are right next to each other in the pack. No one else notice? Still, he did add other stuff and it does sound pretty nice. All did a good job I think

Probably whenever the official FFR engine updates. While Velocity’s engine has frequent updates, the official FFR engine hasn’t had an update in quite a while. It should be updated sooner than later.

yes, i realize most of you like the 3rd place the best. But if you read what I said earlier, there were some guidelines that I had to adhere to when choosing these. Thats why these got ranked the way they did. Do I think 3rd place entry sounds pretty dope? Of course I do. But as I’ve stated (now, multiple times), it wasn’t based on simply “which sounds the best”

I believe what most people are actually saying is that the 3rd place entry was best qualified as the menu music, not simply “sounding the best”. I don’t know exactly what the criteria were, but I’m solidly sure that most people have based their decisions off what they think a -suitable- menu music sounds like. After listening to all three, I’ll have to agree.
Just leaves me wondering what exactly were the criteria if expectations and results were significantly mismatched in regards to the suitability of the menu music.

- Any BPM/Meter/Key
- Between :45 and 1:45 long.
- Must be loopable
- 16-32 bars of music (A 4/4 time signature is not required!)”
The 3rd place doesn’t loop because of the extra measure intro of sweep into the piece.
So why would it even win third place? What were your guidelines to rejecting other pieces if following the rules wasnt one of them to win top 3? Why are reviews from judges involved not shown to artists who submitted? Who even were the judges?? And whats so hard about posting songs and taking votes? Just pure fail on organizing this contest
