In anticipation of the 10th Official FFR Tournament, we invite you to help us raise donations towards providing some awesome prizes for this upcoming milestone in FFR history! My favourite thing is how complaining about money-based unlockables is still shocking to some fifferers.
This is actually a new encounter for me. I’ve never seen a fanbase so eager to extort itself. Microtransactions even make Forza players throw up in their mouths at this point. Forza players! People who spent money on Forza!
But fine, if this is what people want, go4it!

Don’t make this sound bigger than it is. You’re literally only referring to YoshL and me at this point.
This idea doesn’t bother me whatsoever because I care about a thousand times more about this community than I do about how attainable all of the content in this game is. We’re talking about a flash game on a website with a few hundred active players. I think that’s different from a corporation making huge profits by consistently offering content available only via payment of real currency.
From purely a gaming standpoint, I get where you’re coming from. But I don’t see why FFR should be treated the same way as other video games. To me, it’s a very different thing.

i mean, shit, you used to only have veteran title if you paid a monthly sub (or maybe it was a one time sub, pretty sure it was monthly though)
it’s not like ffr is going pay2win lmao, you donate a bit of money and get access to tokens (and a limited edition physical item w0w what a crazy concept it is to buy something you can hold in your hand)
or you can wait until the end of the month and get the tokens by playing the game

I personally don’t agree with in-game tokens becoming available through the payment of money. This is a non-profit website, and I would imagine plenty of people who spent a considerable amount of time and concentration to unlock those in-game tokens feel outraged. Tokens which are so difficult to unlock from challenges or from doing well in FFR events are now available from a small donation. I’m fine with the donations themselves and the physical tokens, though.

You do realize that we’re not just paying for the tokens. We’re also donating for the tournament for prizes in the future for the other players to win. Maybe in the future, the tokens will be unlockable in another way. I highly doubt you have to pay money for them forever. This is just to get the tournament donations going and it’s a great idea.

It’s not about paying for tokens. It’s donating to help the people who do this for free. The tokens and title are just filler.
Regardless, I spend a lot of time on this website, the least I can do is say thanks with a small donation such as this.

First off, I do appreciate the general concern that you have about this. To answer a few things: the staff here on FFR does understand that the website is non-profit, which is why ALL proceeds raised by this fundraising event will go directly back into the site, more specifically, the 10th Official FFR tournament. As another note — the previous Support Tokens (Tell v3, Dendrite v2, Coactive [OmSm]) were actually behind a paywall for quite a long time: in order to get them, you had to pay quite a bit of money per token (you did also receive an album with the token that you unlocked). The alternate requirements were put into place after FFR Subscriptions were no longer an active perk. Support Token unlock requirements had to be created because the tokens were no longer unlockable through payment. Similarly, the FFR Subscribers group became FFR veterans for the same reason.
The newer tokens will be behind a paywall, but users can expect difficult challenges to unlock them after a certain period, similarly to the three previous support tokens as well.

I don’t get what the problem is. You pay for funding of a tournament, something that will bring more playerbase, and you get a cookie for helping out. You win that tournament, you get paid. There’s really no downside to this. :I
