Tass Tips – General Gaming Strategies

Posted in FFR News on April 14th, 2009

Hey guys. I haven’t had much to put up on the front page recently… but in my spare time, I like to make videos. A few weeks back, I decided to start a video blog to help casual gamers on a broad scale. Instead of showing people specifically how to beat one game, I was going to give them strategies to help across all games. These videos are mostly geared towards Flash Games, including FFR, but can apply to other casual games (and potentially console/PC games) as well.

This is my 3rd installment. It’s a bit meta, and definitely a bit out there… but I think it’ll help. The topic is “Know Yourself & Plan Accordingly”:
Episode 3

The previous topics were Reducing Lag and Read the Instructions. Future topics will cover genre specific strategies, optimization, and more. I don’t have too many more topic ideas… so if you have any, please let me know.

  1. A flattering picture for the vid face as always. :)

  2. PS WTF NO HAT?!

  3. Tass with no hat is the first thing I noticed :P .

  4. I guess it will be the interest of the vidz :p

  5. nice tips and walkthroughs for kongregate, etc as always.

  6. another quality vid sharing good info with people. keep up the good work

  7. Can you at least shave so you look presentable?

  8. In most cases I try to go for healing classes or support class if possible, if that’s not available then just a magic class. I also usually go for buying upgrades instead of buying more less powerful units, but that strategy often doesn’t work for me, or I just don’t know how to do it right.

  9. lone: i did shave… shaved and trimmed the goatee.

dean: so that’s a start. you know what you like to do. from there, you have to progress accordingly. if you’re a support class, you have to make sure others have their defined roles as tanks or ranged attackers. or if you’re a mage, you have to build your character appropriately. future vids should address strategies post-creation… this one is meant to deal with choosing the proper creation.

  10. This is a good one. I can’t think of any ideas as to new episodes though. Sorry man. I’ll let you know if i do. :)

  11. This explain the way to be a great gamer.
The video is kinda long, but normally if you start playing games, this can help a lot.
“know yourself” is a good idea, but know other peoples can help a lot more.
Normally if you are a good gamer, you will try to know good and bad tips on each character.

  12. Tass, advertise this shit on the forums not on the front page.

  13. nice vid tass, and well spoken

  14. ummmm what?! pointless …. games = entertainment end of story lol

  15. I lol’d and pissed myself a little. hahaha it was a good vid though

  16. Lol, I never expected you to look like that Tass…though if people saw me, they wouldn’t expect it either, you’ll almost always be surprised on the net.

And was this previously thought out? Because this video seems impromptu…

  17. i keep asking myself…whats the point of this video for a front page update? ffr is obviously not any of those genres but a rhythm game

  18. That was cool…
You should have a video log about things you do on week ends, then we would make forum topics about everything you said… give FFR a laugh…I kidna wanna know what you do on weekends

  19. Nerd of the century, Tasselfoot

  20. So that’s what the legendary Tasselfoot looks like IRL.

Good videos, and might I suggest a netiquette chapter?

  21. @ 0MG
I think its nice to have a little variety somtimes. And I’m sure many of the ppl on this site are gamers also. Either way its better than nothing. I enjoyed it.
    @ Tass
I do find myself always going in a certain direction in most games I play. But usually what you are most comfortable with is how you will do your best. Btw do you play Magic?

  22. i played magic WAY back in the day. in 7th grade. which was 1996 or so. back when 3rd edition was new.

  23. its just i thought the video was going to be tip tutorial for beginners to intermediate on how to get better because so many ask how “they hit such fast notes”

  24. Hey Tass you ever considered posting tips for console games preferably rpg’s? I would be interested to hear what you would say on games like that. Anyways good tips on flash games although I only play one.

  25. shai: i’d consider it, but i’m not an “expert” at console games… i haven’t played them in years. i only play flash games.

  26. …Has anyone else noticed Tass looks like Gordon Freeman?

  27. 1. Tass wheres your hat? :P
    2. this could be helpful…especially for ppl like me who sadly suck at Sonny and Thing-Thing

  28. sorry for double post but some topic ideas:
    1. how to deal with noobs
    2. how to know the game you’re playing is definately suitable toward the computer your using

  29. I love you eternally, Tass.
    Hatless lulz
Do a vid on concentration and commitment.

  30. This vid was basically “How to Kongregate”. But I visit that site all the time, so yay.

Also, beautiful and ugly face? Which is it?!?!?!?!?
    Eh…….beautiful :D

  31. hey thanks for the tip with the strategies from the games i played but im a great player i don’t need too much help of being the greater player but im a great player on the games i really at but thanks anyways………………………………………………………tass

  32. Tass has hair? :O

  33. lol was tass always bald in your imaginations?

  34. Uh-huh. Downvote my comment all you want. You all know I’m right.
Hey, Tass, show us your crowbar action!

  35. shut up roy

  36. NO HAT!! <3<3<3<3<3

  37. Tass – Your ‘Helloooooo’ scared the hell outta me xD. And something you may want to stress in a future video is to take a break if youre getting pissed at your game. I know that I find if I’m getting pissed, if I come back later im often better than I was at doing whatever pissed me off in the first place. Figure it may help other people, and they may not think to take a break.

  38. you have a strong speaking voice, but this..is not front page news worthy. updates would be wonderful.
    sorry.

  39. That was random… This isn’t front-page worthy, but it is something that I’d advise people watch. You do have some good tips on stuff, but yeah.. As I said, front-page material? Not so much.

  40. This is so hot.

  41. Elloooooooowww, well spoken x]

  42. He even wore a hat when we picked him up from the airport. =.=

  43. Just find some cheats and you are already a great gamer XD. But they have no cheats for Dawn of War II. Instead, they have mods.
I only use sniping units (not in first person mode, like CoD) to kill big units.

  44. I forgot to say that this video is really unnecessary…lol, staring at Tass’ face everytime I get on kind of creeps me out after a while.

  45. I’ll sleep well tonight after watching this video. zzzzzzz…

  46. This is all basic gamer knowledge. Maybe Tass should play Halo 3.

  47. Perhaps ironically, these game (mostly FPS and RPG and RTS) tips are posted front page on FFR, a game for which no tips are included in this. Also, many games dictate certain “best” playstyles, and though there may be some choices, generally speaking these are not balanced and a clear “best” strategy will emerge.

Maybe a better route would be “Which games are right for you?” based on which strategies you most like to employ. I don’t like the RTS genre, for example, because I don’t like a lot of micromanagement which is what those games generally require. So I probably should not buy games in that genre as they are not right for me.

  48. lol sappy, he had a hat on??? why dont i remember this

  49. The preview of Tass on the front page has been there too long.

  50. 50th comment. Yeah! A red hat! How can you not? Lol.

  51. Tass, have you ever played any Touhou Games, (FPS or Fighting)? If you have, would you please try to make a video on tutorials on some of those games, (preferably on the fighting games).

  52. Eh, knowing yourself is one thing, but knowing the game is another. Some games call for you to be offensive and aggressive, while other games may want you to be defensive. The mindset that you have to have going into a game is basically no mindset at all, you can’t just expect things you have to figure them out for yourself or you can get your information from people who already know how to play. Blindly thinking that you’re an aggressive player and rushing in every time you’re playing a CS Scrim match is not a smart move.

  53. gay

  54. I love you tass, you and your awsome walkthroughs and love of kongregate and hat… wait… what that… HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  55. Come back and work for FFR Tass

  56. Haha, nice goatee dude. If you shaved it off, I’d be greatly disappointed.

  57. because the forums arent working, im gonna post here.

    1) TASS WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU, YOU HAVENT BEEN ACTIVE IN OVER 3 WEEKS, WE NEED YOU!!
