SotY 2009! Take me back 5 years!

Song of the Year took a break in 2008, because we didn’t have anything awesome enough for it.  There were rumors of Mario or TMWT…  but it all came and passed.  And now it is 2009.  And we have SotY again!  We’re going to party like it’s 2004!

The full name of the song is OSTER Project presents World Tour 2004.  Seeing as how that is both a mouthful and redundant, I labeled it simply “World Tour 2004″.  Artist is, of course, OSTER Project.

Now, why does this song classify for SotY?  Because each one of us can relate to it.  The song hits music from all over the world.  It also happens to be the longest song in FFR and the song with the most notes.  A AAA on this will net you over 6 million points!  It is 8:38 and 3940 of goodness by behanjc.  It’s FMO for some jacks and length and PAing 24th jumpstream…  but it’s not TOO bad.

How can you play this, you ask?  All you need is 20,009 credits and you’ll find it at the top of page 3 of Secret.

Enjoy and Happy New Year!

{Big Boss}. Brackets Can Only Mean One Thing…

New cornandbeans! That’s right.  {Big Boss} sounds like it should be right out of Castlevania, but I’m pretty sure it’s straight from CnB’s big musical brain.  Stepfile is by the under appreciated and eccentric Vote4Nixon.  Currently in funk, but I’m sure jx will be moving it in the next 24-48 hours.  Also, *gasp*, it’s NOT a purchased song!  The song is short and sweet and Very Challenging.

Subbies get some Orange Dust in the form of Patashu‘s Dead and Direct.  It’s a low-mid FMO.

CCCP… Not Soviet Russia!

No, not russia.  It’s our most recent song!  Counter Clockwise Chant Pattern by Terminal 11.  It’s… beyond words.  Mega-FGO.  Good luck trying to even FC this file.  You can try for it for 7500 credits in purchased (the last of the purchased releases for the time being, yay!)  You can thank gnr61 for this mass regurgitation of arrows.

Subbies get a new behanjc file in funk.

Tower and my 1000th level

Today’s public song is the very challenging Tower by AKHT.  I don’t really have much to say about it…  but it’s yours for 1000 credits in Purchased.  File is by hi19hi19.

New subbie song is out too, Moon Child -Go With The Flow- by Naotyu.  File by bmah.  Will tell you all about it in 3 weeks.  PS – This file is the 1000th I’ve personally added to FFR, including widgets.

Double Special KgZ Happy Fun Time!

Let’s start off with a nice little happy 16th birthday to in-house artist KgZ.

As such, I went ahead an added a new KgZ song to FFR for today’s subbie song.  That song is Memories.  Stepfile is by Sprite-, all of our favoritest mod to come back from the grave EVAR.  It’s his first stepfile in game.  I thought both guys would appreciate something for them.  You can find it in funk.  Very melodic song.

After I added Memories, I realized that today’s public song is ALSO a KgZ song.  How crazy is that?  Anyway, today’s song is Procrastination on a Paper.  You can have it for 4500 in Purchased.  It’s a pretty snazzy jazz piece, and only 8 AAAs on it despite a 9 difficulty…  so it’s a challenge.  File by Silvuh.

Enjoy!

And oh yeah…  thanks to all of you guys for getting us to 1.6 million registered users!

Momentary Life since i have Hellhounds On My Trail

My good friend Shashakiro decided to come out of retirement this past summer and wreck havok on the FFR leaderboards, including winning the last official tournament.  In addition, he decided to shower us with a few of his simfile masterpieces… all S.S.H. and all FMO, of course.  The first of these is Momentary Life.  216bpm, 370 4-framers, 3:20 seconds, and over 2100 notes of FMO S.S.H. Shashy goodness.  You can find it in the FFR Shop for the low, low price of 6000 credits.

Today’s subbie release is much anticipated.  I’ll save the full review for 3 weeks from now, but just to give a small heads-up, it’s Hellhounds On My Trail by Children of Bodom.  AND it’s stepped by behanjc.  4:00 of CoB goodness.  I know there has been a lot of requests for this, so I’m happy to oblidge.  The one caviat is that it’s a secret song, so you’ll need 125,000 credits to play it.  Or, maybe not.  Anyone can access it via the widget on CoB’s myspace page or here on FFR.

Not A Falsie Report

Just wanted to give you guys a quick heads up that Falsie the Pseudo-Science girl was made public earlier today.  It is an 80s akiba pop song by our favorite j-pop artist, MOSAIC.WAV.  Stepfile is by world renowned simfiler, behanjc.  It’s a little over 2 minutes long and is a 9 in difficulty.  It’s yours for 4500 credits from the shop.

Creating a New World Through KARMA

Hello FFR’ers! (try saying that 10 times fast heh heh)

Today we have a very special treat for all of you.  A rare and wonderful treat.

Stephen Kay, president of Karma-Lab and the developer of the music technology known as KARMA, has given his permission for us to use one of his songs as this week’s featured stepfile.  This isn’t any ordinary permission.  Stephen has been featured in many magazines and websites such as Electronic Musician, Keyboard Magazine, Sound on Sound, and IT-Review.net for his incredible line of electronic keyboards and software incorporating KARMA, as well as his career as a musician and composer.  His works have appeared as themes for world-wide NBC sports programs such as Wimbledon and the French Open, and he’s played in just about every kind of music group you can name: rock bands, jazz fusion bands, show bands, etc.  His music is truly wacky and colorful, a bright twist to most music you may have listened to.  Here is a link to the media player on his site, loaded with some of product demo works.

For more information about Stephen Kay, check out his biography.

Now to the featured file:
Today’s featured file is called ==Planet KARMA==.  Some of you might know it from ODIpack2.  It’s one of Stephen Kay’s multi-part epics, featuring 5 movements, each with a completely different style and mood.  Most of the file is similar to the one in ODIpack2, but there are some striking differences, especially in the 2nd movement.  The difficulty varies throughout the song, anywhere from a 4 to a 12. The entire song is just under 6 and a half minutes long, so it’s sure to test your endurance throughout! Stepped by yours truly.  You can find it in Secret; it’ll only take 100,000 credits to access.  Enjoy this epic release!

Yay Labor Day!

A few song related things for you guys…

1. 2 new subbie SotW songs are out, for yesterday and Friday.

2. 2 new public songs were released on Friday and yesterday (like every Friday and Sunday). Do A Barrel Roll by Kil, stepped by ElectricWerewolf and Here’s To Life [Oni] by Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution, stepped by DrugstoreCowboy, Kailure, AND Bluguerrilla.

3. We’ve added 2 new SKILL TOKENS, which gives us 100 total. #99 is straight-forward… Pass One Minute Waltz with less than 100 boos to unlock Minute Waltz v2. I listed it as a FMO, but it may be high VC. Not sure. Stepfile by jimerax. #100 is a bit different. We want to reward all the Token Whores out there, and hi19hi19 gave us the perfect opportunity. ST #100 requires you to have unlocked the previous 99 skill tokens. Have #1-99, then check your levelrank.php, and you’ll be given #100… the aptly named Token Whore, by dj tepples. If you get access to this song, congrats!, you ARE a Token Whore!

4. Some Support Token news: About 100 users were able to play Dendrite v2 without actually having access to the song… we’ve removed the scores from these users. In addition, all support tokens will now show up in special levelrank, not normal levelrank. Finally, challenges are being disallowed on support tokens if you do not have the token (just like secret, token, skill, etc).

5. Be on the lookout for a special public release file later today too. We ARE sitting on 599 public songs, and today IS a holiday (in the US).
