Spontaneous Contest Winners Announced!

The contest is officially over and we apologize for the wait, but here are the results you’ve been waiting for. Each panel judge selected one photo a piece, and here are the winners of tonight’s spontaneous contest:

It’s good to be the King. Submission by DJ_Swabber.

My local Chik-Fil-A closed, so it’s good to see the cows are still getting work. Submission by WVUSaxyGirl.

Apparently this person knows I sometimes wear glasses – great photoshopping here. Submission by omg_its_manda.

All winners should check their private messages sometime in the near future to receive a coupon for the free shirt, which we will be able to mail to those who order as soon as Monday. As always, thank you to everyone who entered the contest and don’t give up hope if you didn’t win. There’s bound to be at least one more contest before the week is over …

I’ve been notified the token is still on its way and, one way or another, it will be posted before we retire for the night. Keep checking back and we’ll provide the clue to get you well on your way to another FFR song. If everyone is good, though, I might still release a bonus file tomorrow.

OMGWTFBBQ Tass Made A Simfile?!?!

Posted in Flash Flash Revolution on June 21st, 200761 Comments »

Yes… it is true. I have finally succumbed to the darkside and made a simfile. Albeit… one of the easiest files in the game. It’s by one of FFRs oldest artists, Antinomie. The file was gathering dust in Kwik’s basement (same with Killer Dance Floor. They were roommates.) The song is called Free Space. It’s 3:18 long, but I cut it to 1:08. Expect me to make a full version as a v2 later on that is a bit harder.

This continues and spearheads our effort to get more easy files into the game to please our less-than-skilled users, who may be less vocal… but are the majority. So no complaining if you find it too easy!!! It is easy on purpose.

You can find the file in the upper left of Dance page 1. Killer Dance Floor is now in the middle of the upper row of page 1 of Dance.

-Tass, newly crowned Simfile Author.

EDIT: We also would like to let you know that there will be a Spontaneous Contest tomorrow, a Token released tomorrow, and likely a Spin It Up file tomorrow.

FFR Blue Man

Posted in Flash Flash Revolution on June 20th, 200750 Comments »

I thought it was about time that I surface this week and actually write something on the front page of FFR during FFR AdminCon 2. I was having some serious FFR posting withdrawl.

After a long few days of keeping everyone locked in the basement of this gorgeous house while I eat pizza flavored pringles, I thought it was time to release everyone out into the midst of the Chicago nightlife to experience Blue Man Group at the Briar Street Theater.

I suspected that everyone enjoyed the show.. but.. I had no idea just how much they enjoyed it until after the lights turned on and everyone posed for a picture just outside the theater.

And this is that picture..

Enjoy.

Cheers,

Synthlight

Update from Chicago

Posted in Flash Flash Revolution on June 20th, 200746 Comments »

So we’ve had a long day of meetings, not getting our computer set up that has Flash on it, and wandering around downtown Chicago at 10-11pm… which is apparently really late, because everything we wanted to go and see was closed. Sears Tower, Millennium Park, and some really really big fountain. Basically, we’ve discovered that Synth doesn’t know his city very well. :-/

Anyway, we’ll get that simfile released to you guys mid-day tomorrow. Didn’t want you staying up all night waiting for it when it won’t be around for another 12 hours or so.

Keep up the suggestions and the amusing comments. We’ll try to do the same.

Scary Kids Scaring Kids

Posted in Flash Flash Revolution on June 19th, 200749 Comments »

Released on Sunday was The World As We Know It by Scary Kids Scaring Kids. This song appears on their debut album, The City Sleeps In Flames, that was released under Immortal Records. This is their first song on FFR. New to making simfiles, this song was stepped by unkdavar. The song is rated a 3.5/6 (difficult) and is located in Rock.

Scary Kids Scaring Kids formed while still seniors in highschool. They recorded their debut EP, After Dark, and released it independently in their hometown of Gilbert, Arizona. They applied to colleges just like every other senior, but the escalating buzz of their cd caused the band to take a different course than intended. Scary Kids Scaring Kids ended up being their first priority. They left behind families, relationships and scholarships in hopes to make it big. They were signed to Immortal Records and recorded “The City Sleeps In Flames”.

These days, the band spends most of its days on the road touring. This summer, Scary Kids Scaring Kids will be touring with the Vans Warped Tour. They also have other tour dates before the start of Warped. You can check them out here.

Synthlight sent me 6 FFR t-shirts so I could give them to each member of band at their next show. I plan on taking pictures with them and Pouyan (the keyboardist) even said that he would wear his shirt on stage! Look forward to that update with pictures soon!

Update from FFR AdminCon 2

Posted in Flash Flash Revolution on June 19th, 2007100 Comments »

After a solid 24 hours of sleeping, eating and laying around, the powers that be are finally up and around toiling with the very fabric of Flash Flash Revolution and its associated sites.

For those not in the know, a select group of adventurers and code wizards have met in Chicago to discuss the future of FFR, the profiles, Spin It Up, MeTrivia, Rithum News and other projects so secret that even the utterance of their names causes the walls to shake. In fact, with all the pictures we’ve knocked off the walls and broken, it’s safe to say Synthlight has already lost the deposit he put down on our temporary living quarters.

In the downtime, however, we should be making the front page quite active with updates and news concerning future developments along with all the funny occurrences that unfold amid our antics. We will also be graciously releasing bonus FFR and Spin it Up files through the week, holding spontaneous contests and appearing on FFR radio shows (subject to Internet stability). For all intents and purposes, if there was ever a week you wanted to be on FFR all day, this is that week.

Since we’re all here discussing the future of the very sites you’re browsing right now, we’re opening this topic’s comments up to suggestions of what you would like to see. Whether it ranges from FFR features to merchandise to the smallest of suggestions, please leave a comment and tell us what is on your mind.

Cheers,

Special Weekday Song Release

Posted in Flash Flash Revolution on May 15th, 200767 Comments »

Sudden release of a For Guru’s Only classical song.. why? just because Tass felt like it.

Song is by Oster Project, known for Dazzling series on FFR. Steps are by hi19hi19.
Imagine furiously burning fire, and furious demon, they are the image of this song.

It has a lot of jumpstreams and minijacks, 12 2-framers, 48 3-framers, 12 4-framers
(1 frame = 1/30 second apart). And at the fastest place, BPM is up to 201.
So difficulty is For Guru’s Only as I said, of course the hardest rating.
Difficulty is between Runny Morning and Molto Vivace IMO, really hard to combo.

It’s located upper left of classical for the time being.

have fun,

JX

2nd Official FFR Tournament is over!

Posted in Flash Flash Revolution on May 12th, 200746 Comments »

Around a week ago, the 2nd official FFR tournament ended. With a massive 1,000 signups, the competition was certainly fierce, but in the end, one player from each division managed to beat the competition and claim victory. There were many close matches throughout, but none could compare to the ridiculously close final round of Expert, where Jimerax beat Bill_clinton by a measly 3,000 points on Grand Gallop Chromatique, which amounts to something like 3 combo points out of around 1,900 combo for each player. Anyway, the winners are:

Expert:

1st ($60): jimerax
2nd ($30): bill_clinton
3rd ($15): dAnceguy117
Other high placers: Bahamut-X, Loyal2Death, Exag0n, Sprite-, tman139

Advanced:

1st ($40): drummerlsu
2nd ($20): Schrammbledeggs
3rd ($10): Doug31
Other high placers: Hammymcsquirrel, lxdestinyxl, dawg4321, Kit- (staff), BLAZZE, talisman

Intermediate:

1st ($30): A2_Sauce
2nd ($15): Loot You
3rd ($7): Zeron
Other high placers: Goldenwind, xXTranceXx, Alucard4_6, lacrossegod23, mymrpeas

Beginner:

1st ($20): jugglinguy
2nd ($10): brothaice
3rd ($5): DrawingJunkie
Other high placers: jigglyboy, mxpx9546, slickskater29, gothicmonkey, Grafx5

The top 3 in each division will receive however much money is next to their username, and all high placers (1st to 8th) who aren’t on staff will receive the yet-to-be revealed mystery prize (which will be edited into this post), and have already received the tournament prize-exclusive 18th token, which unlocks the April Fools Day joke song “Vertex Beta vrofl”.

If you’re in the top 3 of your division, PM Synthlight with your paypal address and street address to get your prize. If you’re one of the other high placers, just PM him your street address.

Congratulations to the top placers, and thanks to everyone who participated!
Until next tourney time, happy FFR’ing!
