Posted in Flash Flash Revolution on August 21st, 200746 Comments »

If you guys head over to the forums… you’ll notice that they look a wee bit different. We’ve done a bit of work to re-model them so they’re more efficient. We combined a bunch of forums together and removed a few others. So check it out, let us know how you think it looks and any further suggestions we could make. Overall, it should allow everyone to navigate the forums much faster.

Enjoy,

Special Release! FFR Welcomes Veritas to the family!

Posted in Flash Flash Revolution on August 13th, 200735 Comments »

I’d like to welcome the Southern California band Veritas to our family. Veritas mashes hard rock with synth pop for a sound that is gutsy, catchy and delightfully odd. (I stole that right from their myspace… I’m so unoriginal). Anyway, their keyboardist, Jamie (aka White Thunder), is a good friend of mine, so I implore all of you to go and check out their myspace and their website. I’ll be seeing them in concert tonight, so any special requests you might have for them, post them up and I’ll pass them along.

The song is called 5 Black Skulls. It carries a sweet synth sound throughout, and some very Metal-ish lyrics. Mad props, as always, to our evil stepfile genius jimerax for busting this out in record time for me. You can play 5 Black Skulls in Rock, upper left hand corner of Page 1. The file is very doubles heavy with a smattering of 16th trill streams to the drums. I’d rate it a high 8.

Enjoy, and again, check out Veritas on myspace or epitunes,

I GOT A AAA…. I’M RAVING AT THE COSMIC ORCHESTRA!!!

Posted in Flash Flash Revolution on August 13th, 200734 Comments »

First off… our new user skill token for tonight. I’m Raving is originally a song by Scooter. Our version is remixed by new FFR artist B0UNC3, although I’ve received many submissions of songs by him. His homepage is here, although I found it to load a bit slow. Very catchy song, for sure. Stepfile is by Ben Speirs, of the way too difficult to type out username group. I rated it a low 4; please give me some input on whether you think it should be a 3 or not. To test this file, pass Love You Anymore (Hip-Hop) with 40 or less goods.

Today’s public Song of the Week is, along with Szamar Madar from a few updates ago, a new personal favorite of many of our forumites. Cosmic Orchestra is a very classy progressive rock song by OSTER Project. The stepfile is mostly 16th jumpbursts at 150bpm, but it has a few non 4-framer 24th streams and 1 long 24th trill that is entirely 4-framers. Because of that, it is a solid 10 in difficulty. I HIGHLY suggest you all check out this masterpiece by jimerax, and give him mad props. You can find it at the very very end of the Rock genre.

Today’s subscriber SotW is a pretty well known remix stepped by Exag0n. It is AAA by DM Ashura. You can find it in Funk.

And for those nitpickers… I’m in California. It isn’t midnight yet here.

Day Late… but don’t TELL anyone. New User ST #3

Posted in Flash Flash Revolution, Tokens on August 7th, 200741 Comments »

It is only fitting that we have an easy classical song for our ONE easy classical song. Tell is a remix of Rossini’s William Tell Overture done by Kyle Ward (under alias Symphonius) for In The Groove. I’m sure you all will be quite familiar with the tune. The stepfile is by dore, and is understepped. I accepted this file under the condition that dore make a Tell v2 that is properly stepped or overstepped. So, to get this fun song, Professor Tass advises you to play Moonlight Sonata and get at least 100 perfects.

And that will be my first and only attempt at copying Kwik’s style of writing. I’ll admit… I failed miserably.

{Colossus}, Melonman, Hatten 2, Distant Land… Tass was too lazy to find an amusing title that worked all four of those together.

Yesterday we released Distant Land and Hatten Carnival! v2. Those songs are by Hoisin Sauce (aka, Toph.) and DJ Sharpnel, respectively. Hatten Carnival! v2 is an easier version of v1; no 24ths, many less jumps and 16ths. Many of you have said we don’t need a v2… and we probably didn’t NEED one, but I liked hi19‘s file for it so much that I felt we could have 2 versions. I just goofed and put the harder one in the game first. To unlock… pass v1 (Dance2) with 550+ perfects.

Distant Land pretty much sounds like the opening/ending of Digital Explosion’s Hardcore of the North… so it was only appropriate that we used HotN as the unlock song for it. Stepfile is by Brilliant Dynamite Neon. I rated it a 9 for its 16th streams and 24th bursts throughout the song. To unlock Distant Land, get 700+ combo on Hardcore of the North (Token) with 2 or less misses, 0 or 1 boos, 0 or 1 averages, and 20 or less goods.

Today’s 2 are {Colossus} by cornandbeans and Melonman’s OP by DJ_Ossa. The stepfile for Melonman’s OP is by hi19hi19, and is For Masters Only for its 200bpm 24ths and alternating 16th jumps, which give it 94 4-framers in only 1:50. To unlock, AAA or BlackFlag (1 good FC with 0 averages or boos) Jurs OP (Classic) 3 times in a row.

{Colossus} is another original by my main CnB. It clocks in at 3:37 and has sections of 8ths, 16th triplets, and sections of varying bpm 16th stream. because of these factors and length, I rate it a 9. To unlock, pass {Red Alert} (Misc) with 300+ combo and 450+ perfects. Stepfile by SulferDragon.

Enjoy… as tomorrow is the last day of Skill Token Month

PS – Start the hype… August is NEW USER SKILL TOKEN MONTH!

Scary Kids Scaring Kids, hooked on FFR. Plus Skill Tokens 68 and 69!!

In other news, I went to Warped Tour yesterday (Friday). In case you dont know what Warped is, basically its a huge U.S. Tour of mostly rock/screamo/hardcore bands. Its one full day, per city, of nonstop music. Even if you’re not into this kind of music, i still recommend going next summer. Anyways, point of this? I recieved FFR shirts to personally deliver to Scary Kids Scaring Kids. So I met with them and got a few pictures with them. Expect more from SKSK and FFR in the near future! And check out The World As We Know It in the Rock genre.

Off like a prom dress to more concerts,

DrugstoreCowboy

Skill token update….

Made in Innocent is a song by TaQ, and in this version is remixed by Onoken. Stepfile is by dore. It’s 120bpm, but is mostly 24th gallops, so it feels like 180bpm. I rated it a 9 overall; 0 4-framers, but 24ths always tend to throw me off a bit, like Ruins or Amefuri. To unlock, get 9 or less goods on each of these 3 songs (and Full Combo!): Below the Surface, Save Me, and Parachute. Gotta do them all in a row, in that order. And double check your profile’s last 10 games played after each game to make sure it recorded properly!

Kyuin is our 9th and 2nd to last song in the massive chain. It is a long J-Pop song by MOSAIC.WAV, and to me, sounds strikingly similar to Love Cheat! Stepfile is by hi19hi19… and to paraphrase his description of the song/file… it’s a very annoying 4 minute long song, but the file to it is quite good nonetheless. I rated it an easy 11, For Masters Only, because of its length and 153 4-framers. It will be a challenge to FC for most. Then again, it’ll be an even bigger challenge for most just to access it in the first place. Step one is to unlock Mou Uta Shika Kikoenai (forever abbreviated to Mou Uta). From there, you need to not only Full Combo it, but get 4 or less goods in the process.

Have Fun!

#64 and #65 – Stunt Flying & Prelude to Rites

Posted in Flash Flash Revolution on July 26th, 200744 Comments »

Stunt Flying (Sanxion7 Mix) is a remix of a song that is apparently by a Dr. Flowershirts, but I can’t find any information about the original besides via Saxxonpike’s site. Cool song, overall. Many of you may know it from StepMania. File is by Silver_Brian. I rated it an 8 for its streams at 142bpm, but I’m thinking it might be a 7. To unlock, play another Saxxonpike song, Palindrome, and Full Combo it.
