The Greatest Night in the History of Our Sport. Testing AvMiss Fix
The title is correct. We having a working solution for a feature (fix) that users have been asking about for approximately 5 years. Omg 5 years… Xelius has been hard at work squashing the AvMiss bug and he looks to be successful. Yes, he has been sifting through unimaginable amounts of tangled and twisted FFR code (I feel bad for the guy). His efforts are nothing short of miraculous and his results are fantastic.
We had a preview tonight but starting tomorrow morning we will be inviting all beta tester (aka subscribers) to come in and experience this new version and note down any bugs you may find. I suspect the results will change FFR scores dramatically. We still have not decide what steps to take in how to handle scores but we will be organizing and sifting through all the subscriber suggestions in order to come up with a solution quickly.
I ask that if you want to help Xelius eat and pay his rent (and help us with our costs) that you subscribe. He has been working insane hours on FFR lately and even more improvements are on their way. As always, we can use as many extra beta testers as possible. For those of you who are already a subscriber, thank you. You all make a huge difference in what we are capable of.

“Ah, the infamous jack glitch. Basically, in order to properly hit a jack, you have to hit the first arrow early enough so that it isn’t anywhere near the second one, or the game will think you’re hitting the second one (and you’ll therefore miss the first one). This isn’t all that easy to do, making jacks easily the hardest pattern in the game.” ~Shash. Always pwning noobs. lol

Awesome. Thanks Xelius. I’m not a subscriber, but, I have a suggestion. Perhaps there could be an option to turn avmiss on/off? Also, perhaps there could be two sets of high scores? That way, people could still be proud of their old scores, or even try to beat them. Plus it would add variety to the game.

Why would you want to have to fight a glitch? O_o Seems odd you would want to play a glitched game, but I see where you would want to scoring to remain the same, because you earned those scores, but I have scores I have had to avoid avmissing in as well and I would be happy to see them beaten. :]

i like framers, for the fact my scores that are high ranked, are all the harder songs, because im used to playing early all the time, something such as colt.45′s aaa on nova, which she whored the song FOREVER, will be meaningless now.

Okay, here’s the thing, I’ve told this to Sprite because he totally hates the idea of an avmiss fix… I’m all for it though. Having the avmiss fix implemented means a few things. 1. It does in fact allow for easier FC on insane songs like OMW, CP, GGC, Molto and the others we all know. BUT, here’s the catch. Having this ability to FC means nothing. It’s going to be HARD AS HELL for everyone to FC and STILL maintain a good PA rate. Only the top players of FFR will be able to do that and everyone else will have their scores represented in proportion to the skilled scores of the masters. If you think about it, having avmiss gone, ALL the old scores on the avmiss hell songs will be totally pulverized. BUT the scores will once again balance out as everyone places scores in the song. It’s still the same concept. Think of it as everyone gaining a skill jump at the same rate of 5 fold. Now another thing, having avmisses gone means that we will need crazy harder songs for those that toast the already hard ass songs. We’ll need songs like St. Scarhand for example. I’m all for it having far harder songs. This does represent a problem of totally re-evaluating each songs difficulty to balance out for these new, insane songs. Also, we will start to want songs with hands in them. Just to add to the difficulty factor. Having songs of this difficulty will help better represent the top players of FFR and as well, keep peoples skills proportionate to others. I see 0 problems with the avmiss fix after it is implemented. I say, let them implement it, let the old scores be crushed, in the end, everything will once again balance out.

I agree 200% with Phynx, I’m all for it, and I believe the scores will even themselves out. It’s not like it’s making the masters worse or the beginners better, it’s just a slight change in the way the game works. Plus now it will be about hitting the arrows perfectly, instead of hitting the first arrow early, and the second one late – which is a totally different skill.

not true, the fmo’s right now, are mainly fmo’s due to framers. otaku oni’s will be easy as hell to get off some of the songs. fotbb will be easy as hell for indexers to aaa now.

For one thing, even if they fix avg misses, its not gonna fix the fact that you miss a note on the 4th framer. The bug in it today wasy if you hit it late, you hit both notes instead of getting a miss on the 2nd or 1st notes. In essence, if its fixed right Crowdpleaser is still impossible to FC. No doubt some songs will be easier to fc, but not in anyway wayy to easy for anyone to fc, only ppl such as DarkShark, i love you, Sprite- etc etc will be able to fc these

Barista, as I’ve said before, all that time spent gaining those scores on avmiss songs will have to be let go mentally. People will just have to live with letting that wasted time go. It’s part of progression. But think about this, now that the avmiss problem is fixed, we all can start getting scores that are in stance with our skill.

Nah, it’s standard FPS is 60. But for some reason, computers like mine that are decked out run at around 200+ depending on how many other programs are running. 60FPS is the standard rate for any and all games. Be it a computer based or console based game.

av miss fix is confusing others to believe scores will be crushed… no it is not even close to that thoery… if av misses are fixed your pa doesnt change. it means you can pa without the av miss occuring it is as if your getting an average with no boo or miss attached. an average miss on a song such as vertex beta simply means you were the perfect timing window. if one can always hit the perfect timing window no average miss occurs. that explains how a song can be AAA’d

On a song like Vertex BETA, you can average-miss while still hitting the perfect window. Those framers cover the late “perfect” frame of the first note.
The Average comes from you hitting the “average” frame on the LATER arrow instead of the “perfect” frame on the EARLIER arrow.
The Miss comes from the first arrow slipping by after you’ve hit the second one.
And the Boo comes from you attempting to hit the second arrow even though you already did; your reflexes just don’t strike until you see the “miss” and found out that it was an avmiss.
Always hitting the “perfect” frame doesn’t necessarily mean getting a AAA. At least, it doesn’t until this is fully fixed.

AvMiss bug, offsync songs, and the fact that finding any particular song is a MESS, are my three most hated things in FFR, and reasons why I prefer SM.

You also have to think for FFR. Synth’s main objective(or one of his main objectives) has always been to attract as many people as possible to FFR. By getting rid of avmisses, just think about how many more people will play FFR and how much players who have given up on FFR simply because of this bug will come back and play.

I have a few videos (about 19) I’m kind of attached to. I know you guys want to make money, but I’ve always respected how you put the users first. I don’t intend to subscribe (no need to, and shouldn’t have to) but I have my heart set on a couple of shirts. (Hope to see a top 1000 of 2008 shirt!)

mi4 inorder for them to allow non subs to hold more vids they need to expand there engine which in turn cost money. therefore the you need to subscribe, i do the $4/month deal.

Well I never said *unlimited* like you guys have. I’m trying to find the median norm here. And besides, if they do a server-wide wipe of all non-checked vids, you’d only have to worry about those who actually use their save checks. Most who have “clutter” are to blame, and they probably wouldn’t even use a save check. I keep mine pruned and streamlined.

As far as “extra” features go, I only care about getting extra save checks for my vids. I don’t want to wake up and find my entire video DB gone, especially without warning.
I don’t need all the extras, so I don’t intend to subscribe, but having a solid history (8000 games)with the site, I’m all for merchandise.
It’s the merchandise that will get me to shell out some cash.

Damn nothing new going on so far? Hows the AvMiss working out so far? I don’t usually have that problem unless it’s a song like… Victims And Martyrs.. or any song with quick and tricky or just long streams of jacks… I’m sure it’s not going to make that much of a difference and all FFR players will get used to it.. but I still prefer the FFR now. So I agree on the thought of being able to turn AvMiss on and off in the settings. And since in the previous news announcement was mentioned cookies for the settings it wouldn’t be much of a hassle for those who want to leave the AvMiss setting on.

Godwar, you make no sense, why would you want to have avmiss on purpose? Don’t yu realize, that avmiss only forced you to hit arrow at the wrong time early, so you could hit second arrow. Actually encouraging you to be less accurate at this game.

Yeah Maid… thats only when you completely suck at the game. Of course I meant to say the “AvMiss ->fix<-”… and because basically if the AvMiss fix is on, I may be wrong, But would that not mean if you don’t hit both arrows correctly that means you would get 2 goods/Avg’s instead of one?.. see I don’t want that my friend, there should be the choice to use it or not.

yeah, I agree with both of you. Even though it is important to fix the avmiss glitch because the whole point of the game is to be as accurate as possible, it is equally as important to be able to turn avmisses on and off and too keep avmiss highscore boards because some people worked their asses off getting amazingly good scores with avmisses and it wouldn’t be fair if that was taken away from them.
Also, this is going public when testing is done right?

If the avmiss thing is still being kept from non-subscribers because there is still testing ok but if you guys are just trying to get more people to subscribe I think that anyone who would did. I don’t know about any of you other non-subscribers but I’m sick and tired of many many songs that I could easily fc without them. It is starting to effect the average rank too. I keep trying to improve my average rank and I come by songs with the glitch and I’m like “I’ll save it for later when avmisses are no more.”
