I can understand if you think they sound similar, but if you think every song sounds exactly the same, you're not really listening.

That's vid is pretty cool nice find man.

Personally, I think BMTH sucks but I'm kind of biased because I dislike most deathcore. Pretty much the only deathcore band I like is The Red Shore, but even with them I can only listen to in short doses. Check 'em out.

Seriously, it looks like pretty much any form of rock that sounds SLIGHTLY diffrent is another genre. I find this so god damn stupid because everything in the same "genre" has EXACLTY the same elements of the last song you listened to. How fun is that to listen to somthing with absolutly no originality. I think all this dividing is just trying to make yourself look like more of an individual so you can say you listen to diffrent music to sombody else but pretty much instead of the gutair being progressivly building chords is starts at a heavy chord for most of the song.

Also dear god sombody please explain to me why you enjoy listening to the vocals in the previous youtube link.

To Romal: Because they don't play screamo music.

To fido123: It all depends on how the scene develops. Most screamo bands have a fairly distinct sound and they contain talented creative musicians as members. I didn't create the genre so don't think I just did it to be original or different from other people. I like the vocals because they're emotional, raw, and full of energy.

Uh, a few of the bands you listed under "emo" are more ska. Also, some of the bands under screamo, are more of the "emo"genre.

BMTH isin't even deathcore either, it's more hardcore. Most of your hardcore has down-tempo breakdowns, that you start hXc dancing too. Deathcore has more walls of death and straigh up pits and fights.. Deathcore, it's more of things like, emmure, whitechapel, (early) under0ATH, carnifex.

P.S. You just lost the game.

Lol deathcore isn't all about the shows and pits and stuff. I guess maybe they're just metalcore, but hardcore is like Black Flag and Minor Threat.

Which bands under emo are ska and which under screamo are emo? I've heard Indian Summer been called emo and screamo a lot so I wasn't sure which one to put it in.

                      So wait.

You think a very slight variation in vocals makes it necessary to create a new genre?

I watched the video. It didn't stick out at me at all. I haven't heard of any of the bands you listed, so I thought, "Oh, a type of music I haven't heard," but it turns out it's not standout or even distinguishable at all. I don't even know where this small vocals aspect is, because I'm certainly not hearing it in what you think is a prime example of the genre.

I don't understand why you people feel the need to make a billion subcategories for things. If I had to classify the feel, the only thing that comes to mind is "indie". A very small part of only one track in the song shouldn't be enough for you to jump up and say "THIS IS ABSOLUTELY UNLIKE ANYTHING I HAVE EVER HEARD BEFORE. WE MUST DISTINGUISH THIS FROM THE OTHER HEATHEN MUSIC WHICH THIS HAS BROKEN FREE OF." I'm only hearing indie, so that's all I'm going to call it.

Well the vid you watched was an indie emo band. The vocal style I described was an earlier version of emo called emocore. Trying to describe emo in one song is kind of like trying to describe metal in one song. Emo (along with most genres) can be pretty diverse, so there isn't really just one song that can represents the genre of emo.

By the way I didn't create this genre, so don't act like I'm the one creating the subgenres. To be quite honest, emo has more to do with the way the scene developed then an actual specific sound. The reason I put up that video is because I figured it is one of the more newbie friendly songs, it's not too heavy, it's catchy and it's easy to enjoy by most, not because it actually represent the genre through that one song.

Saying 1905 is screamo makes no sense to me. Ok it makes a little sense but, all in all, I don't like the name of this genre. Also, holy **** someone else listens to 1905?

Edit: Why isn't Chiodos screamo again?

                            I <3 1905

Yeah I guess they aren't really screamo, but I've seen them called screamo a lot and they definetly have screamo influence.

As for Chiodos, they're post hardcore/pop rock. Pretty good band though, but as I've said before, if it's been on MTV they're definetly not screamo.

That doesn't make sense, unless one of the requisites is that the band not be popular.

                              Heard 1902?

Woah missed circle takes the square on that list. That is definitely not screamo.

Maybe I'm just defensive because screamo seems like a 4-letter word.

I just label music 'hardcore' and move on.

Circle Takes the Square is definetly screamo.

And what do you mean by screamo being a 4 letter word?

What I meant by the MTV statement is that screamo is a very underground genre. It's not popular and it's definetly not something MTV would play.

Screamo does have hardcore roots, but if you compare a classic hardcore band like Black Flag or Minor Threat to a band like Circle Takes the Square you would obviously hear a huge difference.

Why don't you like the name screamo? It's been around for a while and there are plenty of good screamo bands.
