Re: [20000 credit giveaway] Recommend your favourite anime series to moi
Ok I watched 5 Centimetre Per Second and some of Gurren Lagann. Next up is Fate/Zero and Cowboy Bebop.
5 Centimeter Per Second: honestly one of the most thought-provoking anime/movies I've seen in a while. In the beginning of the first episode, I felt like it's going to be filled with bs romance that's already been overly portrayed in other animes but I was completely wrong. It made me think, and sad. I watched it with my sister and she had tears streaming down her face already half-way through the first episode. Only downside was that I felt the last episode was quite rushed, the "short-story" scenes at the very end could've been explored further to give a more constructive story of what happened between takkaki and akari. 9/10 nonetheless.
Gurren Lagann: Unfortunately, this wasn't my cup of tea. If you look at my MAL profile you'd see these dark/thriller/crime/suspense type animes such as Code Geass, Steins;Gate, and Death Note so I wasn't as immersed into the whole robot concept, especially with them looking hideous with the disproportionate face/body ratio lol. I really liked Kamina though, this guy gave me a confidence boost automatically after the end of the first episode. I liked his ambitious, slightly arrogant attitude and he might be the only reason I'll continue watching. The generic huge boobed hot as **** chick who shows up and saved the day (first episode) was kind of too cliche to take it seriously for me. I've only watched a few episodes so my judgement can be superficial, I'll comment again in a few days hopefully after I've seen more. 7.5/10
EDIT: sending 5k credits to whoever mentioned 5 centimeter per second
20k will go to the one that recommends the anime I like the most out of all the ones mentioned

I'll try to watch as many anime recommended here as possible, will give 20k credits to whoever came up with the anime I ended up liking the most.
despite having a fancy anime background of Nichijou, I actually haven't watched that many anime series, and I'm very picky when it comes to anime. I don't like slice-of-life type anime or anything that has no recurring story behind it. I'm into the action/drama, kinda dark stories that makes you watch every episode back to back because the suspense is too irresistible.
Here's a few examples:
Code geass R1/R2: my absolute favourite. probably a better ending that many movies I've seen in a long time
Steins;gate: Also freaking amazing,
Sword Art Online: Amazing as well, just got a little boring after SWA was replaced with that fairy crap
Death Note: I enjoyed it as well, got a lil boring after
L died
Heard Mirai Nikki is also a good anime, should I give that a try maybe?
seen full metal alchemist, kenshin, and clannad/clannad after story as well.
Steins;Gate is probably the most enjoyable anime i've watched so far, if you want a few others...
Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood, probably the best shounen i've seen. Great Teacher Onizuka, Probably the best Slice-of-Life Comedy i've seen. Welcome to the NHK!, Its good especially if you can relate to the shut-in NEET protagonist. Fate/Zero, Great characters, and some of the best animation quality i've seen in a while. Kind of craps all over Fate/Stay Night but apparently ufotable is planning on doing a reboot of the series so it might actually be half decent depending on which route they plan to adapt.
Attack on Titan, I found it to be pretty overrated but even with how predictable the series got, it was still an interesting watch.
If you want something that's so bad that you'll actually enjoy watching it, Garzey's Wing (Dubbed), I'm pretty sure i laughed most of the way through the first episode and its pretty short too..
The Tatami Galaxy, Probably one of the oddest anime i've seen. The animation style and presentation was fairly unique but i enjoyed this one.
Darker than Black, Had an interesting setting, and i really enjoyed the characters in this one.
Last Exile, action/adventurish, I found the setting to be interesting and thought it was a pretty solid anime.
Spice and Wolf, adventure/romance with a interesting setting, good chemistry among the leads, and economics.

But like MracY said, read VNs. They rule. Based on what you listed in your first post, you'll probably like Nitroplus' stuff (Saya no Uta, Demonbane, Hanachirasu, Muramasa and Sumaga whenever they get translated), along with ones like Cross Channel, Ever17, Sharin no Kuni, and G-Senjou no Maou.
I'll second this, as long as you steer clear from the bad side of VN's, they're actually quite enjoyable.

I should've mentioned that TTGL takes a fuckload of episodes and time to actually start picking up. The first few episodes aren't anything outstanding, but it really starts picking up at the halfway point, and the second half of the series is absolutely nothing you'd expect as it goes into an entirely different direction and tangent from how it started, rofl. So yeah, if it's just basking in too many anime tropes for your liking at the moment, just deal with it and keep watching.
tl;dr there's a reason why I specifically said, "you will go in as a prepubescent boy and finish the series as the next mr universe weightlifting champion"
P.S. I will extra recommend that you watch Psycho-pass and Baccano! You'd love those for sure.

I don't remember, there were a few wierd plot devices in that anime especially when it comes down to Makoto and Mai, I still enjoyed the anime but i can see where you might have issues. I didn't really care for Air as much, and it had its share of dumb plot devices. That one felt like they were just trying to depress you as much as possible by the end of it. I'll probably wait for that other TL project to finish before reading it.
On another note, you guys are making me want to watch TTGL finally. I'm not the hugest fan of Mecha but I've heard that it was good from a number of people and seen it mentioned enough on here.

I don't remember Air having that device
didn't she die because her family line accepted a curse and had to pass it on until someone could save her?
Kanon is one of my favourites. I watch it every year. It's not the best story but the characters are more agreeable and likeable than most. The ending was meh, but if you like Key you'll put up with anything. lol
