I still think we need a modern remake of battle royale with a high budget that is rated R. I heard a rumor that they were working on it, but it was suspended due to school shootings and was thought to be in bad taste.
Yes I do work at a movie theater, sorry, that mustn't have been as clear as I thought it was x3

As far as THG goes, we have about 2,500 people a day for it. The sheer amount of them is unnerving. I would like to see a remake for Battle Royale, though, that sounds interesting, as long as it retains the hilarious comedy in mistranslations. "Wow! I survived thanks to my great bullet-proof vest!" was my grad quote.

      Re: The Hunger Games

It's funny that I had never even heard of the hunger games until last friday when the movie came out. I am kind of surprised it has such a huge following. The book is most likely better than the movie, but the plot/concept is mediocre and generic. While I was watching the movie I found it to be way to predictable. I feel like they didn't make the movie with the idea that is should be a standalone story apart from the book.

I'm sorry you have to work in a movie theater. Those are the worst places with the most annoying people.

        crosspost from another site

i havent read the book but the only problems i had with the movie were things with cutting out information that maybe would have helped, but that's a problem all book-to-movie adaptations have and the movie was already really long. i was pretty enthralled the whole way so i assume they did a good job.

        the two things really:

        1) i sort of intuited the food-for-tribute system (wherein you put your name in for tribute in exchange for food) but that wasn't really clear

        2) katniss and rue's relationship could've been...more. obviously it's not unreasonable but katniss' reaction to rue's death seemed a little over-the-top given that rue had like eight lines and five minutes of screentime. i mean this could be defended as rue being the loss of the only truly innocent character but still. oh also spoiler alert

there were probably a few other things i'm forgetting but it was awesome otherwise

Pretty good movie, stupid ass crowd. So common nowadays.

Okay someone synopsis this for me. Spoiler tags if you have to. What is the general idea?

I hear this particular movie mentioned a lot. Give me a reason to watch it (or to avoid watching it).

I have a guess but there's a good chance it's wrong. In fact I hope it is wrong because if not, this movie would be several levels of lame. My guess

Everyone is a contestant on some "reality" show where they have to kill everyone else in order to advance and possibly win. Either that or the main "host" is some sort of madman or mad scientist who forces them to do the same but for his own amusement.

No, your guess is reasonably accurate and the movie is several levels of lame, don't worry about it.

If you haven't read the books or seen/read Battle Royale, you might find it okay, but I definitely wouldn't say it's as good as everyone thinks. Everyone I know that was hyped for it made it out to be really good, but everyone that wasn't and saw it just as a movie (or with limited knowledge of the books) thought it kinda sucked.

The books are better, imo, although they're not a great read. Like Rubix said, it's pretty much Battle Royale + Twilight. A bunch of kids fighting for their lives with a subtext of the vulnerable lead female protagonist torn between two male characters that are very nearly polar opposites. I'm disappointed that she didn't play the mental effects due to the killings up more, since she did mention and hint at it, but whatever. Plus the third book sucks ass. It's horribly boring. And she writes like this. A lot. With too many short sentences. It drags. And gets old quick.

But hey, other people will tell you differently, just my /2cents.

That just sounds like bad writing and bad fiction to me. It's seriously written that way?

Also just for kicks I just now wiki'd it. I was like "Please tell me she didn't get the idea from watching too much reality TV. Please tell me she didn't get the idea from watching too much reality TV. *crosses fingers*" .. reads on ... looks like she got the idea from watching too much reality TV. *facepalms*.

                  Re: The Hunger Games

Yeah, her concept of using writing style to affect the reading experience is pretty much to just constantly use short sentences. It works to an extent by providing pace and mild suspense, but it drags and gets old quick. I mean, it's obviously not as bad as I portrayed it in my previous post, but there's no real complex sentences or anything.

And yup, iirc, it was a combination of watching reality TV and something akin to the whole Kony thing that's been flying around recently that she claimed as having given her the idea.

ok I saw the movie like over a week ago and the story was nice. The biggest problem is the shaking camera. Can't make out some of the action.

Clearly you haven't read the third book, I don't know how they're going to keep that from being rated 'R.' The third movie will have all the blood and guts of a world war II film.

haven't read the books, but just saw this tonight and daaaaaamn was it good man. great movie, better than battle royale imo which i saw a loooong time ago as the story is better (not just gore gore blah blah gore) and the characters are so much more relatable.

i'm definitely looking forward to the sequel i'm a little ~F4nB0Y~ now but dang that was so worth seeing, just a really well done film.

I liked it, it was kinda boring at times but it was enjoyable to watch. everyone was acting like it was the most awesome thing ever cause i saw it near the end of march, but yeah. I liked katniss a lot and when rue died i was like *tear .... tear tear... sniff* don't think I've ever cried that much in a movie. I didn't like the forced relationship(s), it was pretty dull to me, couldn't get into it. but still, it was way better than I was thinking it would be going in.

a little too long and way too abrupt an ending for my taste, will see the next one but im doubtful about following it all the way. i liked the sectors and the disparities between the upper class and everything, too. it was interesting, and pretty entertaining, but not amayyyyzing. just cool
