Head over to the Artist Permissions forum section for all the details on how you can get your music into the game.
You'll be able to ask for help, and hopefully find out if anyone is interested in immediately stepping your tunes.
I understand it at a basic level, but I just can't seem to get the same quality sounds as everyone else. I can't make melody's worth a crap, and a I don't know how to make it not sound dead.

post-dumps abstractly represent the existential nihilism that the song invokes in the listener with negative space, evoking the ephemeral nature of the mind - the journey of stepmania begins in hope yet soon becomes corroded into a dialectic of futility, leaving only a sense of dread and the unlikelihood of a new synthesis

whatever you need help with, you should post in there, instead of making a new thread, and someone will help you
the information that could be in that thread is not limited to what's in there now.
also if you want help you should be more specific
making a melody isn't really fl studio help either, it's general music theory help
I agree with KgZ - loads of other people are really good with FL
I'm a trancehead, so for me, a lot of what makes my tracks sound alive are the arpeggios and pads, as well as a progression. You should send me one of your .flp files, so I can annotate it and give you tips or something, if you wanted

Yeah, what DJS said... Honestly, you just need to mess around with FL for a while until you figure out how everything works... My advice would be to learn what everything you can control with automation does--they will do WONDERS in the future...
P.S. Getting .flp's of demos from pros is helpful too--I've got one or two from sanxion, and I look at them to figure out how he does everything.

Melodies should be memorable. Simple or complex, a good melody is (IN MY OPINION) the most important part of a song. A melody can be technically anything. However it's up to you how you want to define it. The melody is what makes a song memorable and catchy, so while writing it, you should be asking yourself, "Is this something I could sing or hum to that would take very little or no effort at all to think about?".
