Care to help a noob who wants to move up?...

I've been playing this for a while now, and I've pretty much mastered most of the begginner and easy level songs, since I've played the same ones over and over again. I want to master the harder ones, but I still can't last 5 seconds in those things, hehe. My problem is that all the arrows come at such a rapid fire pace for me, they're usually too close together for me to figure out when I should press what, and I keep mixing up my keys, always pressing up when I mean to press down. It's crazy. Funny, but crazy.

Well, I'm not the type to give up, so I'm gonna keep trying to move up from my familiar song pattern. Anyone have any advice on how to last more than 5 seconds on the more challenging songs? A certain way you use the keyboard or anything? Just curious.

Use 2 hands, and try songs like terror from beyond, secret zombie room, and maybe burnout

Nope. All you can do it just practice, over, and over. Well good luck.

The secret is practice...work on easier songs, not the beginner ones but something in between..there are many difficulty levels to adjust to..since you can do the easy ones I suggest trying the normal or tricky songs until you can do well on those, then keep moving up. Don't try stuff like revolutionary etude or uber rave right now..work your way up through the ranks and keep practicing.
One day there will be a really cool sig here. But not right now.

You can't listen to these 1337 d3wds, you gotta take advice from a fellow noob. I know exactly what your problem is. It is that you are not reading the music. Honestly, you have soo much time to have a good look at the key, get it figured out what key it is, get your hand ready, and then press it. You will be amazed how it seems they fall slowly as if one at a time instead of a huge blur. All you need to do man is take a little time and condition yourself to look at each key. Once it gets faster and they throw in qwik doubles, you need to look at it in waves. With these things in mind I went from about 30 max combo on zombie room, to about 5 missed in probably 10 games.

Message me privately if you are having help.

Ok, I'm not really a noob, i can really handle some of the "difficult" songs, but i'm a one-hander. How on earth do you do this with two hands? I play with my middle finger over the up and down arrows, and my index and ring fingers on the left and right arrows. i manage with it, but I have a feeling there's no way i can take out the hardest songs like this.

There's no way you'll be able to, EmpDenied, up-down runs will kill you like that.

Try one finger on each key. This is pretty much a "whatever's most comfortable" sort of thing.

Easiest way to get better:Play a LOT. I have played for about a year now and I am getting good, so practice is the best way to get good.

Don't play a lot actually. Try to space out the times you play because you'll get real fustrated and so on. So if you can't beat that certain level after a few tries move on to the next one and come back to it later.

I just tried 4 fingers on Life Goes On. . . i failed miserably. I've been playing almost a year with three fingers, and can completely combo most standard songs and do pretty well on others. . .i just got a 347 combo on Life Goes On with three fingers. but i guess i'm going to have to relearn all over again now

If you are comfortable with playing one handed and have fun that way, then there is no need to switch. You can still pass pretty much any song out there with just one hand, and get a decent score on most non retarded stepfiles.

Besides, the wall that one handers hit is months and months away from where you are at now. You have no reason at all to worry about it right now.

And switching to two hands won't magically make you any better. The key to improving at FFR is to get Stepmania and lots of songs for it. So go get Stepmania. Now. Seriously, you will be amazed at how quickly you will improve with Stepmania.

Most importantly, one handed is the most fun way to play. Why change the way you play, then, if the point of playing a game is to have fun?
