Ok, here's what you do.

when you're in your profile, theres a red button at the middle-top bar thing. Well, it's red words, that say show style editor. Click that. When the page reloads, there will be buttons everywhere. click the one at the top right of your profile, that says default/background/banner style editor. Now just find your image link if you want an image, or click the pallette for background colors.
