I think all people should have religion. What's the loss if you just cease to exist?
Also, if you just die and wonder if there is a heaven/hell and you don't believe anything, then it's not likely you'll be in heaven.

but I think God would be able to see through you and that you are just believing in a religion just to stay on the safe side and you are not actually a true believer.

Good question...I think about this alot myself. I personally think that it's just an 'eternal slumber' type of thing...like sleeping and never waking up. But then I thought, if this were proved to be true, is it possible that any ideas of an afterlife/going to heaven, hell or whatever possible place be merely well...a dream? Like for all we know, it could be one big illusion.

and ive seen on TV they've found out what "the light at the end of the tunnel" is scientifically, i just forget what causes it

fusi0n you can't really say that. this is critical thinking, we're questioning things that no one can say yes or no to, or what's right or wrong. he's just giving his opinion. So far, I haven't seen any explications coming from YOU on the matter

That's basically what I believe. I too, think about this quite often, and try to put my feelings into words. Really, the whole concept of life after death is the reason I'm athiest. I don't believe in 'heaven' or 'hell' for several reasons, which for whatever reason I can't put into words at the moment. But I think you die, you rot, that's it. If you step back and think logically about it, just because we think doesn't mean there's any reason for us to stop thinking and just die. I dunno, that's just my take on it...

An idea I also toyed with for awhile was that being dead was just losing control of all your muscles and you lay there, staring at the surface of your coffin until your body rotted. But that wasn't I seriously considered might happen, I just thought it would suck...I came up with it after I read a story about that one dude in France who died from a heart attack and woke up three days later in the Morgue. Wierd.

well, you need your brain to think and when your brain 'rots' you cant use it too well...i dont want to start a religous war here, but its hard for me to see you 'atheists' and antireligous diss other religions because they believe in a certain mighty power when you yourself believe in this magic after death...you kinda contradict yourself...if you have any need to respond to my last post please do it without ruining the thread or starting a flame war because it would be a shame

Not at all. I don't see how I'm contradicting myself...I don't believe in any 'magic' after death, I don't believe in anything after death. I think you die and that's it. Game over.

I was half joking about the whole 'wake up in the coffin' thing as well...it was something I toyed with for awhile, but never seriously.
