If you want theories on how the world will end, http://www.exitmundi.nl/exitmundi.htm is a very interesting read on different doomsday scenarios.

Too many pop-up ads to be especially worth looking around in.

          Re: Apocalypse

Our sun will not blow up to one big Supernova or Blackhole. The world will end. But like ljw5021 said, the world will turn into a Red Giant, and all of the inner planets in our Solar System will burn, from Mercury to Mars, and we're one of them. But it won't happen for about 10 million years or so.

well.... there are a lot of ways the world could end. I was thinking about it when I was cleaning the kitchen, but, you know how scientists are trying to come up with ways of people living forever/longer? Well if people DID live longer, then would there be more people on the Earth and then wouldn't the world overpopulate and all hell break loose? Meh.... that's just my thoughts.....

              Re: Apocalypse

A couple of very very quick things.

The chances of something coming from space and striking the early are higher than you might think. If you want to know how many times it has already happened, just type in "craters" on wikipedia or google. All that needs to happen is one that is big enough to come along. However, i dont think this will be the case.

The Mayan calender ending date is something that can be interpreted any way an individual pleases. The general consensus of people who think about it often think of it as the ending of the earth or some kind of prediction. In this case it should not be credited any more than any other doomsday date. However, since there is no scientific date disproving the date, it is a theory than can still be decently accepted.

Animals, outside of the human race, may contribute somewhat to their own demise, but as a whole, the human race has/is contributing to more than one species. If anything, they speed up the process of self extinction of the various animal species.

Disease and overpopulation have happened many times before in human history and guess what, we are still here and multiplying as rapidly as ever. Many diseases in the past were thought of as incurable but it was just a matter of going through another scientific breakthrough. As for overpopulation, if needs be, there are many MANY tracts of land still open for humans to live on. If anything, the only problem would be less amounts of space to grow and produce food.

                Re: Apocalypse

Or, knowing that their life expectancy is longer, people will wait longer to have children. I'd also expect that with an increase in life expectancy would come a commensurate increase in quality of life, people would not just be living longer, but longer more active lives...and in that case, I rather suspect that after 1-3 kids, many people would be far more inclined to get a vasectomy or histerectomy given decades more of life wherein they could be healthily sexually active.
