    The issue isn't that things do not exist if they do not think, simply that thinking is typically viewed as a 100% proof of some form of existence whereas other things can be doubted more easily.

      And again, he makes no particular distinction as to what -kind- of existing he actually does. He uses the phrase "thinking thing" to describe what he knows does exist via his thinking.

      He considers that he could exist as he percieves himself to exist, he could be a brain in a jar, he could be virtually anything capable of thought. He concludes only that he exists, and nothing about in what capacity he exists.
