Re: How powerful is the human mind?

I read this somewhere that we only use 4% of our brain for thinking, and that genius' use 5-6%. The rest is used to help our body function - i'm pretty sure a fair chunk of that is un-used. Just imagine what we're capable of if we could tap into that other 20%?
This is just patently false. I've heard the "We only use 10% of our brain" thing way too many times.

Don't confuse "At a time" for "Total" Not all of our brain is actively doing things at any given moment, but it all has uses.

Try reading other posts before responding Flesh Field.

Also, that only 5% or something of a brain is ever used it completely and utterly perposterous. During development, there's a whole lotta trimming of extra and unused neurons and connections. It would make no sense to have sections of brain exist which have no function, unless they're vestigial parts. Also, 4% plus 20% = 24%.

yes. because that would be smart.

            i mostly agree with guido.
the human brain is a powerful tool, and used effectively can bring people to their knees.
now on a different track i believe things like telekinesis and pyrokinesis are complete works of fiction and if they actually had proof of it, it false.

people like horse whisperers and dog whisperers are completely false too. they simply stroke the animal to make it calm down and use any background stuff given to fabricate a story.

the brain is a powerful organ indeed, but something people say about it are just plain wrong.

(also i believe we do use only 10% of our brains becuz look at the Egyptians. They built the pyramids so well not even a sheet of paper can fit between the stones. With the technology back then, I think that is pretty good proof. If they can be that precise, how come we cannot figure out how they were so precise.)

Um...the Egyptians have nothing whatsoever to do with the first half of your statement, which has been scientifically proven false so many times that I'm amazed the stupid myth actually persists so strongly.

All you need to 'live' technically is your brainstem actually, although what you're getting at is very true. You'd lose most functions and anything that'd make you more than a vegetable.
