i just saw a movie (the name is irrelevant) about this guy who was hit by a car and the priest at the funeral said he was "taken before his time"... this got me to thinking... what really IS our time??? was the guys "time" supposed to be him as and old man on a deathbed, or was it that EXACT second that he was MEANT to be hit by a car and die??? are we all set by fate to die at a certain time, whether it be natural or murder??? or are we in control of how long we live, and that our actions shape our future??? if i stay inside my house for the rest of my life, will i live to be over 100, or will fate find a way to have a calamity befall my home and kill me??? im curious to see your reactions... are we REALLY in control of our lives, or is every movement, action, and breath already set in stone???
fate, or free will???

Re: fate, or free will???
that thread is mostly derived from facts and scientific approaches, im looking for just a POV... what do you believe as just joe schmoe??? if i were to walk down the street and ask ppl this as they passed, they wouldnt quote experiments, they would instead let you know how they felt about it... how their take on life, and social experiences have lead them to believe one or the other, or possible a hybrid of both... dya see where im gettin at??? im am in NO WAY trying to bash or even trump your thread, im just trying to pull up in a different approach to the same question... you say u want 6 bagels, ill ask for half a dozen, well both get the same results, but from different approachesNow owning 24/7... your friend, sigpic, the Easter Bunny...

Re: fate, or free will???
I believe that the game Paper Mario is fun.
I believe in the illusion of free will.
Therefore I can also believe that an illusion of free will has positive connotations.
I use this "free will" to make what I believe are the best choices for my life, but of course there is only one way that my life will turn out in this dimension. Therefore one day something will cause me to die.
I guess I have come to the conclusion that I believe in a passive fate.
Is that what you wanted?

Re: fate, or free will???
Well, if you actually go and eat a cookie, then you were destined to have a cookie.
Think of all the neural connections that led up to that event happening.
I think it's pretty well explained in the other thread.

Re: fate, or free will???
yes but im thinking of all the neural connections that would fire and miss trying to sift through all that fact and logic... ask a bum about fate... i can tell you the bum is not gonna pull up factual evidence, the bum is gonna tell you about life experiencesNow owning 24/7... your friend, sigpic, the Easter Bunny...
