whats is there to be afraid of? not going to heaven? not going anywhere? when it's your time to go you gotta go. no ands,ifs or buts what ever happens to us after we die will happen can't change it...so just live your live to the best of your abilities we may be reencarnated (cannot spell) into the life of a new born and the cycle just continues over and over again just everytime we get a different out look on life the only thing we take with us to the new born is our smarts (what we learned in our previous life) and to answer the question no i do not fear death

We are all simply the dreams of supernatural beings, and whenever those beings awaken, it's our time.

I'm very curious about it, but obviously still scared. I would bet almost everybody is at least somewhat afraid of it.

My biggest fear is that my consciousness will cease to exist, and my second biggest is that I'll just continue existing without gaining any new knowledge or insight. What I hope for most is to somehow gain a complete understanding of the universe. That would pwn.

But I can't answer the question of what happens after death, because I can't answer the question of what consciousness is. Does it somehow arise from the complex arrangement of mere matter? Is that possible? If not, it must be something more, but what? Call it a soul, or "energy", or whatever, that doesn't explain what the hell it is. And so I can't tell what happens to it when I die.

Sadly for me, I find the nonexistence theory to make the most sense, and be the most probable. But ultimately, I have no way of knowing (and that's my stance on just about every philosophical/metaphysical issue).

I'm glad this thread came up because death has been in my mind lately. I have been thinking about what will happen after death. Will there be an eternal state of nothingness? Will I be sent to Heaven or Hell?

For me, death has surrounded me. A cousin and two Grandparents died in one month. It made me really notice how close death can take your life away. I don't like to think about death, but I think about it all the time. If at any time, one of these religions (Christianity, Islam, Judism) is proven correct after death, that means many people are bound to be proven wrong (If there is indeed an Afterlife)

Scenarios:

Christianity was proven correct. 66% of the people are proven wrong.
Islam is proven correct. 80% of the people would be wrong.
Judism is proven correct. I don't know the exact percent wrong, but it is above 90%.

I like to think that if there is an afterlife, all people have a place in it, and people don't have to burn in hell just because they made the wrong choice.

Shopowner, that's one of my primary concerns with 'religion'. And also the reason I give props to Mormons, because they're very good at giving (as much as they can) empirical evidence.
