    2) Spell your own name right. P-H-I-L-O-S-O-P-H-E-R.
    3) You've just shot down two major systems of belief (Most western-culture organized religion, and atheism) in one post, so congrats to that...I think. o_O;
    4) After reading through it all, you can sum it up in that you believe in reincarnation. Which is a valid idea that hasn't been discussed here yet (I don't think, anyway).

Don't worry. I'm sure they'll have DDR in heaven. Hell... Maybe it'll even have a good FAXX chart up there.

Re: Does death scare anybody else?

I'm sure that most of us have once doubted our beliefs. Maybe there is a heaven. Maybe we all just dissapear. Both are pretty unfathomable.

I believe death is like a state before we were born, except, an infinite number of times harder to imagine. Being born is like waking up from a sleep and having completely forgotten what happened beforehand. If dying is what I think it is, it'll be like never waking up and never dreaming, which is just so much harder to fathom.

          Death doesn't scare me.
          Screamers do though...

You are a really horrible noob if you think PARANOiA is "too fast" or "too hard" when it is one of the most easiest and fun games in the DDR franchise!

And if you are wonderin' it will be out soon. It isn't much but there will be more episodes.

The thought of nothing is freaky... like, at the end of the universe or not existing, etc. It's too complicated to comprehend.

When it all comes down to it, what are the theories of heaven and reincarnation? They are blind hopes that there is a way to cheat being done forever. They have nothing to back them up, and yet they are somehow easier to believe. Which is harder to comprehend - ceasing to exist, or existing forever? It's hard to answer.

I believe in reincarnation. I don't try to pretend that I know the underlying circumstances, but it just seems balanced - there is a constant flow of life and death. We don't know what happens before we live, we don't know what happens after we die. I can't even describe precisely why I feel the way I do - I don't know if I even know myself. But there is energy in me, and it can't just disappear.

Re: Does death scare anybody else?

Death is just another moment. How i see it is this. Knowing death is inevitable is the greatest comfort in the entire world, becuase i feel and know it doesn't exist. Yes, people die, that is ineveitable, but death doesn't happen. Just as birth doesn't exist either. A nice buddhist koan to this would be "What was your face before your parents were born". It's to show that we existed many years before "life" and will exist for many years after. I know that every person, no matter how minor, affects me. You while you read this, every post i have read, every person you know. Without these people we would not be who we are, we are shaped by everything around us. My parents have affected me, and their parents them and so on for eternity. I will affect my children, you, everyone in one way shape or form. So when my body "dies" I still "live". Death is just another state of existance. Worrying about an afterlife is frivolus(sp?). Everything we know tells us there is nothing after death. Not to attack religions, but ignoring all "holy" books and philosophies are entire self tells us when you die, thats it for the "I" or the "ego". Every person throughout history has affected you up until the point of death, and then you join the countless others to affect the rest of etirnity. Your part in the grand scheme of things, how ever small, will affect everysingle peron brought forth into this world forever. That is why death does not scare me. It tells me to make use of the time i have here, and to experiance life, and not to worry about death.

Re: Does death scare anybody else?

I've always said that I am a very thought-filled person. I overthink everything, be that "should I go play some stepmania" straight up to "Why am I going to die? What will happen". I used to not be able to control my thoughts as well when I was younger, more immature, so I naturally got freaked out by the prospect. But now, even though I would occasionally get scared I tend to think that life is here, we have to live it, what is the point of worrying about it, we are going to infallibly die, simple as that.

I can't believe in God, due to overthinking and sure I believe that if there is a god then he must have a god, and that must have a god, and somehow how does it end, it can't, because when we get to that end, the "First Principle" it would mean that we would have reached the end, which is impossible as there is no end, or none that man can possibly ever understand or realise (this is also related to Plato's Symposium if anyone wants to read it, good read). For a First Principle to exist has to mean that there is a possibility to understand how we are here, but we can never find it out, so yeah, death is a scary occurance, but hell, let's just live. Right now to stop the worry I just think about what I have in life, a great girlfriend, family who care, money, job, a great career aspect. Death can happen at anytime but I'll be damned if I'm letting it bring me down.

                  Umm, yeah.

Paz - Ask yourself this, do you wake up and go "oh no I might get stabbed today, and I also might get run over, and my dad might come in and hack me to bits, or I might get raped by a big black man and then torched after gas is poured in me". Or do you wake up and go "mmm, hmm, snuffle, *yawn*". You don't worry about death when you wake up, why worry about it when you have woken up, it's pointless, you're happy when you wake up, that's why men get like they do in the morning, no worries haha.

Ouch, unlucky. But hey, I had to almost die and have a scar on my head that'll never go away to get that money, and my job is only a saturday one which I've had for about 2 years and still can't find a new one. But umm, apart from that, no complaints. Just get a new girlfriend and screw college and go get a proper job, stop being a hippie about it =[

Re: Does death scare anybody else?

Here's another bit of my thought on the matter.

Sometimes I think that we are incredibly close to having found everything that we can find about the world we live in, and when that moment comes, all that is unknown will be connected.

When you think about the universe, it's easy to get boggled - it's so large that there is no definable border.

When you learn about atoms, it's also easy to get boggled - every particle is made of particles, which is made of particles, until we are completely lost on how to see any further.

What if when we died, we went one of two ways - further out, where our universe is a small particle in a new world, or further in, where we delve even further into our atoms, which contain many universes all their own? Births come from one way, deaths go the other. Constant cycle.

Here's a really poorly done up diagram if you're a visual thinker.

Thought these lyrics would be suitable:

                            I am
                            I am
                            I am

                            I was not
                            then I came to be
                            I cannot remember NOT being
But I may have traveled far
                            very far
                            to get here

Maybe I was formed in this silent darkness
                            From this silent darkness
                            BY this silent darkness

To become is just like falling asleep
You never know exactly when it happens
                            The transition
                            The magic
And you think, if you could only recall that exact moment
                            Of crossing the line
                            Then you would understand everything
                            You would see it all

                            Perhaps I was always
                            Forever here...
                            And I just forgot
I imagine Eternity would have that effect
Would cause a certain amount of drifting
                            Like omnipresence would demand omniabsence

Somehow I seem to have this predestined hunger for knowledge
A talent for seeing patterns and finding correlations
                            But I lack context

                            Who I am?
This is the spoken part of Animae Partus, the first song on the "BE" album from Pain of Salvation. An album all about God/existance, humankind, but that's not important, the lyrics here are. The whole "Perhaps I was always here" is a valid excuse, you can't remember being in the womb but for all you know you did exist with a mind that altered when you left the womb, what about before that, were you always destined to be here nomatter what, in that case are you always destined to die, thus there is no need for fear?

                            Probably the best part is:

And you think, if you could only recall that exact moment
                            Of crossing the line
                            Then you would understand everything
                            You would see it all
It's like death itself, if someone could only recall the moment of death, of dying, then you could understand life, and everything that surrounds it and you could see it all.

I'm really scared of death, personally. Sometimes I feel like it's illogical for anything to happen besides me vanishing from existence, since all I am is really a bunch of atoms arranged in various ways. And vanishing from existence scares me ****less.

However...one thing I've had a problem with is this.

Let's say that somehow, someone made one or more EXACT copies of me, with every atom and molecule the same. What would determine which copy I would live as?

Or, if someone vaporized me into my individual atoms and then somehow reconstructed the atoms into me and resurrected me, would I come back or would it be some other entity living as me?

When I think about these things, my head starts to hurt because there really isn't a logical answer IMO =(

That one's easy - if you had a copy made of you, you would be the original. On the other hand...

...That's a fscking good question. I mean, what makes you you? Your body is little more than a mechanism for your mind, but if you reconstructed your brain after death, would it be you? It doesn't sound like it would be, would it? I mean, poof, you're dead, there's a pile of atoms that only differ from one another in that they have different numbers of electrons. Poof, there, the atoms are back in order and there's your brain again, but what happened to your mind while you were gone? Would it be like being born again, except with memories intact?

It makes you consider the concept of souls, doesn't it?
