its hypothetical... plus, we don't know that as a fact... for all we know, its already happened... or it could be happening right now in the future, but no one would know it besides the person who went back in time... im talking about real time travel, not that perception shit...

I always thought that if you COULD go into the past, anything you did there would have been in the past, so it would have already happened before you went into the past, making it impossible to change anything.

Isn't it funny how something can be so clear in your head, but be so hard to write it, or convey it?

I know what you mean, nightstar. If we were able to go into the past, it's already happened, and it 'will' happen (as in, the future already exists) I don't think it's poissible though.

In other words, humans have already gone to the past, and whatever they did already happened.

hum, this question has two different answers, it depends on how you see time, as a loop or a as a line. if you see it as a line, then no, you cannot go back into the future and change your present. say you wanted to go back and visit yourself at age 20, and you are currently 22. it is impossible, simply because if you were meant to visit yourself when you were 20 , your 20 year old self would have gotten a visit from a 22 year old self. seeing as you went by 20 and never saw your 22 year old self, you can assume that you're never going to go back in time to visit yourself. if you did, then that 20 year old self would completely derail from the path it was going, seeing as it was told additional information it shouldnt really have gotten, information which if left unknown would lead to him visiting his 20 year old self when he becomes 22. thus you end up with 2 life lines, one who got a visit from its 22 year old self and derailed, and one with a 22 year old person who attempted to change his present by visiting his past. by visiting his past and changing it, he is essentially destroying himself, because its his very past that led to his existance in the first place. so he either goes back to his own timeline with nothing changed, or ceases to exist, and the 20 year old person continues on a completely different track

by this logic, it is logically impossible to go back to the past and change your present, because going back to your past to change your present destroys your present altogether

but think about this, it may make you dizzy, you can't go back in time and change yourself because you would have already changed yourself in the past before you went back... you would be changed before you even did it, so nothing would happen... Think of time as frames, Now is only now for that "Frame" then its the past, but the past is still happening because if you go back in time, it is only you percieving that time, therefore it is the present for you, but that means that for everyone else, in the future, things are still happening, it is like a looping movie, just the movie is in parts, and the parts loop...

Im staying with the theory that u cant go back in time. I mean if u cant reach the speed of light then what are the chances u can travel in time? But ASSUMING u can go back in time there would be 2 possibilities. 1. is that nothing u did would change the future because it already happened that way. 2. is that everything u did changed the future. In "A Sound of Thunder" Ray Bradbury talks about this sort of thing. A guy goes back in time on a tour (doesnt that sound fun!!!) and makes the mistake of touching a butterfly that wandered into the "safe-zone", unfortunately they were in the prehistoric era and the interaction compiled over the millenia and when the guy got back to his time (the future) it was overrun with strange creatures. i hear it might be a movie soon.

light speed travel could be more possible then people think, energy can be changed into other types of energy, so you could take brain waves, turn it into light, send it somewhere, change it back into electricity, then "Jump start" a clone of you, while destroying the other... it would be considered light travel...

If we ever get to faster then light speed travel/sight then if we go in a complete loop around the universe, we would end up in the past, since it is said that the universe, when curved, will lead back to the same point in time, so if its faster, it would be in reverse...

the reason ppl say u cant make something go the speed of light is beacause as you get closer to the speed of light u need more power to continue acceleration. The closer u get the more energy it takes. Like in math, those curves that get closer and closer to a line but never touch (parabola, hyperbola, one of those things). but i doo like ur idea of transmitting brain waves as light. with the right technology it might be possible.

thats also why i like my idea, its easy to go the speed of light, if you are light, that way you don't get into everything
