Is now for me the same as now for you?

this one relates to all those quesions about time, but here goes:

am i experiencing this moment at the same time you are? are we all living in the same time frame? it's hard to explain what i mean, but i'll try using an analogy.

let's say your entire life is a movie. also, my entire life is a movie. there will be parts in your movie that overlap with my movie, of course. now, let's say that living life is like watching the movie (and i'm not trying to argue that life is already played out, this is just the best analogy i can come up with). well, when i'm watching my movie and i get to the part where i, let's say, pass you on the street, am i seeing me pass you on the street at the same time that you're seeing me pass you on the street? if i'm a year older, would i see that part of the "movie" a year before you do?

so, basically, the question is, do we all start our "movies" at the same time, or do we do it such that the events all occur with each other, or what? of course when u read this u'll think "well, i'm sensing now right now, duh" but how do you know that, in my perception, i didnt write this years ago?

also, even if we all did start our movies in certain spots, do they stay in tune with each other? we all know the saying "time flies when you're having fun." well, if while i'm playing games and having a good time it is like watching the movie in fast-forward. so, if i have more fun than you would i get to this moment first? and if i were in class for a long time, bored outta my mind, would you get here first?

it's really an unanswerable question, and i've tried to explain the concept to other people, but nobody understands. if i've lost anybody i'll try and explain better. so what do you guys think of the idea?

Sounds like a fun thing to think about... but unrealistic. Ofcourse now for me is the same as now for you, just that things seem to take longer depending on your state of mind.

Yes. It's an interesting thought, but not true. Time's kind of an illusion, and yeah, we all experience t hings at the same time. Your vision is more of a "time surrounds ME" sort of thing. It's more like, there's time, and we're what's filling it.

Well, I say that... If you accept Einstein's theory of relativity, we all live in our relative times. It's really hard not to accept the idea, but it hasn't been proven, so there's still room for opposition.

Everyone lives in their own time frame. Because our actions on Earth take place at relatively slow speeds, all of our time frames are close enough that we label them as simultaneous, so for all practical purposes, we kind of do, and that's pretty easily observed. However, we technically don't feel time move the exact same way.

Take the twin paradox. Send one twin into space travelling at a decent fraction of the speed of light (let's say three-quarters), and keep one on Earth. When the first one comes back to Earth thirty years later in Earth time, he'll only appera a few years older, while the one that stayed behind will have aged thirty years. This time dilation is observable on Earth, but is insignificant.

If you don't want to believe that, that's cool, since a non-universal time frame is borderline incomprehensible, but that's my take on the matter, from a more scientific point of view.

hmmmm, i knew this would happen. everybody think of course now is now, but i guess i didnt explain it right.

and guido, about those time dilations, that's so cool. hopefully when i get older i can live in a jet that is constantly going at least Mach 2. that way i wont age as much and can live longer!!

Another aspect to consider is how fast or slow time appears for you even though it roughly passes by at the same rate for each person. Take a spider for instance. Spiders see many more slices of time per second than humans do, therefore making it appear to the spider that we are slow moving. When in fact on a basic level time passes at the same rate for both us and the spider. I would have to check my sources but it is something like 20 seconds spider time = 1 second of our time.

Time is a tricky thing. You can measure it, but over well um time, it needs to be recalibrated. When the New Year hits, people in New York would be in that new year long before anyone in New Mexico. One could call the other place, being in the new year, so would that call travel time? No. Its becoming difficult for me to see how time can really exist, yet its there. And isnt there several types of time? Earth time, ie 11 AM , or timed events, such as a race? One is governed by the sun and its position, the other, is just measured time.........? Man i confused me....ugh

time as we know it simply just a way for us to keep track of things. some could say that time itself is non-existant, since it differs from person to person. i mean, everybody can be shown how long a mile is, or how much a gallon of water is, or feel how heavy 100 pounds is, but nobody can be shown a second, minute, or hour. we just measure time to keep order in society by setting appointments and making sure we dont do something for too long.

but yeah, as to the original idea in my post, i didnt really explain it too well, because i dont think any of you really got what i was trying to say. or maybe it's just one of those things that u have to think of yourself or it makes no sense at all...
