Hey, not all TV is bad. Shows that are Sci-Fi like Stargate are awesome! And comic book ones like Smallville are good, too. Just don't watch the junk like Survivor. Junk anything, whether it be food or TV, is bad for you.

TV can be excellent; I heart the Science Channel and the History Channel.
Also, shows like Family Guy, Malcolm in the Middle, AquaTeen Hunger Force, etc. are good, but Smallville's the only TV I've watched since I went to college.

Also, if you avoid TV because it's full of advertising, you're also gonna have to avoid going out and society in general; advertising has permeated most every facet of our lives. I've learned to accept advertising. Of course, I don't let the things I don't want affect me, but if I see a commercial for a Pop-Tart, and I subsequently crave a Pop-Tart, I'll go get a Pop-Tart and admit without shame that advertising worked on me. It's too much of a hassle to try and deny advertising completely.

::looks at topic title:: Damn, I'm way off course.

Okay. TV has seriously warped the image of teenagers and younger adults with the image that sex is completely okay, and I'm sure that that image has affected many weak-willed teenage girls.

Most men (myself not included) want their woman to be owned by them and to answer to their call for anything. For many men, they are just objects to fill his desire. This will rub off where the woman will try to be this, but while still maintaining control of her life. Sometimes, it slips.
Ugh, The Swan didn't help anybody. All it did was make me want to spend thousands of dollars to get surgically perfected but go through grueling hours of pain while in the recovery process. Thankfully, that feeling lasted for only 20 minutes. I feel sad that those women were put under the knife on public television, then again it may help their image if guys really don't care for how they used to look.

Okay. Before I start, all girls or guys that might take offence to this, DON'T. I'm not trying to make a point or anything on both genders. Just my experiences that I've had.

With ALMOST every experience i've come across in the last, oh, i don't know, we'll say, EVER, has been GIRLS BEING SCANDALOUS. You know, cheating on their bf cuz they're SLUTS. Now i'm not saying guys don't do it, cuz i have guy friends who've done it.
I met a girl last year that found me attractive in every way. I liked her a lot too. It was going well for about six or some months, but then for the next two, she was such a b**** to me. I woundered, why?

Now that I told my little story, It's time to say what I was going to say. Sure, not all females do that, but there seems to be a selected two thirds of the population that brand themselves as sluts. WTF?! Can't these b****s stop thinking of sex and try to see what a guy wants instead? Not all guys want sex you know! Sure, every relationship will possably have sex, but just stop and think!
And for the guys that always think the same way, that goes for you too! Not all girls want to always have sex!

But it just so happens that almost every girl I've been with wanted to use me for sex. Even ones that wanted to date me. Sorry f***ers! I'm not a sex toy, or object!

          Okay now. I'm done.

okay, i kinda laughed at that, i will admit. :P

            but still, some good points.

I haven't read this topic in a little bit, and i see people going off with media, and some new questions came up. Who the FUCK is falling for media bullshit?! Honestly? like come on people, think for a minute. Just because you see a car holding a happy family on TV doesn't mean your family is gonna be happy in it. To me, anyone who falls for advertising, is a tool. However! There ARE some exceptions to it.

It is okay to advertise movies. Showing people a general idea of the movie will get them to go. I admit, i fall victim to advertising for movies. However, it don't think its ALL advertising that does it. I notice i usually go to see a movie that i thought would make a cool movie at one point in my life, simply because of the ideas in the movie. The advertisements just make me want to go more.

Also a good advertisement is for Charities/Foundations, and their efforts. Things like "MS walk" or "Fundraiser for aids research" and definately "TRUTH ads" are worthwhile advertisement that i have fallen victim too, and its helped me realize the severity of certain problems in the world. Advertisements like this should be on more often than not.

Okay, with that said, BACK ON TOPIC.

I just think that if you are falling for this Media stereotype of how we are "supposed to be", then you're just dumb. And its not all media. Think about it. There has ALWAYS been guys acting like these arrogant assholes you see in movies and stuff. Guys didn't see that in a movie once, and start acting like that, I'll bet anything, they saw that, started laughing, and thought "Man, that's really how some guys think all the time, bout time someone showed it."
Same with girls. People have always been hurt by scandalous girls and finally someone decided to make them act like that in movies. Now, concerning both genders, if you go to a movie, and see a character acting like that, and are like "Wow, i wanna be like that," once again, you're a tool, and need to jump off a cliff.

All in all, NO ONE SHOULD SHOW/TELL how to act. I think you're perfectly capable of making up your own mind, attitude, and set of morals. If you have morals that somehow, some way of reasoning to make cheating seem okay, you need to explain it to me, because to me, you are one fucked up individual, and should seek advice and morals from other sources, cuz the one you got them from, is just idiocy.

I believe media actually reflects the current culture, not the other way around. Movies and ads didn't become cynical first, it is the people who changed. We have a different culture now, and all that you see in the movies and ads is exactly what people think, but taken to an extreme.

Some girls get their kicks off of talking dirty but aren't ready to take the step into sex in any way. A guy should never try to push a girl to have sex with her when she says no. No means no, regardless of how dirty she talks, how "slutty" she dresses, or how experienced she may or may not be. Even if she really is a "slut" and sleeps with guys all the time you know it, if she says no, you stop. It doesn't matter if she is or is not experienced. If she says no or that she is not ready, then you stop, no matter how bad you want that satisfaction and if you really care about her and don't just want to have sex with her, then you'll respect her decision and wait until she's ready.

Many, but not all, girls feel that they need to talk dirty or pretend to be some sort of mini sex symbol in order to keep guys' attention on them. It's obvious - if Britney Spears was always completely covered and she was not as beautiful in the face as she is now, then guys would not pay attention to her because the music she creates in general is not the kind most guys want to get caught listening to and her voice itself is not enough to keep people listening the way they do. Her voice is not powerful, but is pleasant to the ear most of the time. Christina Aguilera, to me, is not usually all that pretty but her voice is decent, though she does seem to try too hard sometimes and her voice breaks when she screams instead of actually hitting notes in a singing voice. LeAnn Rimes, however, can sing phenomenally, no matter what genre she sings. I've heard her sing rock, R&B, country, pop, gospel, and more - she's got a very wide vocal range that keeps people listening without having to take all her clothes off. Yes, she has shown a lot of skin in some photoshoots, but she does not do it all the time and is seen as a country music singer, which is not popular amongst most of the younger music audience, therefore you do not see her on MTV, etc. so the young girls who watch MTV do not see her and do not know about her - someone who people still love and she doesn't weigh 2 pounds and isn't the most glamorous and sexy woman in the world. She is a great role model for young girls. But if girls fall for the whole thing, she isn't all that smart. But I also don't think it's right to go off and say every "slut" was caused by Britney and Christina. It's a girl's own choice how she acts and how she lets her peers view her.

Plus, there is always the possibility of pregnancy. Tell me, guys, if you had to worry about getting yourself pregnant every time you had sex with a girl, would you have sex so much? If a girl gets pregnant, she has to take care of that baby and she is stuck with the baby but the guy is off scott-free. He doesn't have to worry about a baby, but if he has any honor in his bones, he'll stay with her and will help her take care of HIS child. Talking dirty can be fun and make you feel good, but when it comes down to it, many girls do not want to take the chance of getting pregnant or getting called a slut.

Face it: when a girl talks dirty a lot or has sex with her boyfriend or any other guys, she's a whore, slut, tramp, etc.
When a guy does the exact same thing, there is nothing wrong with it. He's cooler than a lot of other guys now because he can get some any time he wants.
Society is a hell of a lot harder on girls and the perfect girl than on guys. Guys can degrade girls (did you know that the slang term for the back seat of a motor cycle is "bitch pad" as in the girl on the back is the driver's bitch?) and talk about how they want a girl with a big butt or gigantic boobs and they're just being guys, but if a girl wants a guy who has a large penis, "WHAT A WHORE!"

A lot of girls find it hard to stray away from doing what it is they see guys like. Heck, just go to buddypic.com - those girls there will do almost anything to get high ratings, including walk around with their thongs hanging out.

All in all, when it comes down to it, the average guy will stick it anywhere to get his satisfaction and girls feel pressured to let them so they can keep their guys around.

It all comes down to RESPECT for yourselves and RESPECT for others and HONOR.

If you don't have honor, you have nothing at all.

Men are just as responsible for acting like sluts than girls.
The phrase "man-whore" is getting said a lot at my school. Wonder why? They act just as bad as some of the other sluts. Another problem is with the fact that people seem to be able to get away with sexual harassment in my school. Girls butts are slapped every day without getting noticed and girls just slap any guy's ass they damn-well please. If both genders learned to keep it out of the public's eyes, this wouldn't be so bad but excess public exposure *cough* media! *cough* people seem to think everyone wants them to be like this. How can I tell, the people who don't watch movies or hate the movies that endorse being sexy at a young age never act like that.
The following people are on my hit list(for now...):

Lifetime- for teaching children that women are rape toys and all men are evil(ladies, I\'m single and guranteed not to rape you!)

I don't know if this has a lot to do with the topic, but the way people react to things in real life is much different than in the media, I noticed.

For example. If me and my boyfriend are holding hands or hugging, people will tell us to get a room. Do people object to this sort of stuff in the media? Do they object to "beautiful" people hugging, and doing more than hugging? No...

I know that you could easily argue against this saying that people don't object to shootings etc in movies, but would obviously object in real life, but I think that's a bit different because nobody ever said that the shootings were a good thing... it's just something that happens in the movie to make it more exciting. Girls think it's cute when people hug in movies. But in real life, they tell me to get a room. Guys yell "Just fuck her already!"

It's rude and disgusting. I did nothing that should cause them to yell at us. We actually had a few girls approach us before and tell us to stop the "public display" because we were sitting together holding hands.
C is for Charisma, it's why people think I'm great! I make my friends all laugh and smile and never want to hate!
