Since a lot of song packs were on Megaupload, I'm pretty sure a lot of you have gotten music off of there. According to this guy, the government has the servers and the IP addresses of everyone who used their site - and they're going to start going after copyright infringers.

Maybe not imprisonment, but how about millions of lawsuits? You've got no case if they caught you doing it, and at a minimum settlement cost of $750 per infringement (plus attorney's fees), they can easily come out ahead.

How is it that someone can murder Michael Jackson and get four years, but downloading / uploading one of his songs earns you five? Why do we not put these resources somewhere more useful like murders / cold cases / rapes / theft of physical items.

Trying to scan**** 25% of the internet users who have used Megaupload is not going to happen. They're interested only in the big fish who made sick profits off their uploads. They don't give two shits about the fact you downloaded a few movies or uploaded a couple of Stepmania bumper packs containing esoteric eardumps.

Remember when Sony dove for the IP addresses of everyone who visited geohot's site? Or how everyone's upload/download history was recorded on the Limewire computers that got ganked? Remember what happened there? Absolutely nothing. It's not financially feasible to prosecute that many people, let alone track them all down.
