I want to hear different opinions on what a Noob is. I keep getting different responses from people. I hear that it is someone who sucks at video games. I also hear that it is someone who is doing good at a game but only because they are cheating or using something that is easy to use. As for Call of Duty Black Ops, some people use a launcher attachment on their assault rifles and people nick name that as Noob tubers because I guess you can kill easier with it. But yeah what is the true definition and could you call somebody a Noob if it doesn't relate to games?

Re: Definition of Noob:
Just a personal definition from me.Noob, newb, newbie, noobie:
Someone who has little to no experience in a subject. Be it video games, or cooking, or even say shelf re-organization.
It's a general phrase in video games that makes anyone who is bad or new at the game feel worse about themselves. It's generally a rude comment.
"That guy is such a newb"
"I know. He should stop tking us with the rocket launchers. D:"
"What's the Sword of Atrophy?"
"HAH! What a newb." -

Re: Definition of Noob:
I grew up playing MMOs where people referred to new players as "Newbies", a term reserved exclusively for inexperienced players who had very limited knowledge on the workings of a game. I always understood "Noob" to be used as a negative term to name-call a "newbie" for being a nuisance for not understanding or excelling at a game.
However, today "Noob" takes on a whole new meaning. In first-person shooters It's a term used to classify any person with a lesser skill than the accuser. It's used as disrespect to talk down someone, accusing them that they have no idea how to play the game.Comment

Re: Definition of Noob:
I would always differentiate between the terms"newb" and "noob." I would interpret and use the term "newb" for anyone that is a beginner at something but shows some potential for improvement in the future. On the other hand, you have your "noobs" who are just so ignorant, naive, dumb, etc; that there is probably no hope for them in the future.
tl;dr:
newb = new and inexperienced, but with potential
noob = this person just flat out sucksAMA: http://ask.fm/benguino

Re: Definition of Noob:
Newb and noob I pronounce the same way and therefore do not differentiate their definitions and newbie I generally shorten to noob anyway.
As for a definition I think what we have above sums it up well. An inexperienced individual or someone who is of a lesser level than the accuser.
Personally, I throw these terms around all the time with no intent of using the understood meaning. If someone is bad, yeah I mean to call them a noob, but it's never supposed to be hostile. It's more of a, "Oh that guy must be new to this because he *sucks* at this game." (Sweeping generalization that this can only be applied in gaming)
For me calling someone a noob is like when I call someone a hacker, I never really mean it. It just makes me feel better about myself when in reality I know I'm a horrid gamer.
tl;dr: Noob/Newb/Newbie - N. [in gaming] An inexperienced player.

When the game isn't fun for you anymore, take a break. It's not a job, nobody here is professional and getting paid to play and force themselves to constantly improve... it's a game.
