I'm curious and as most of you guys are American, could help me out and explain stuff.
Basically, my partner works and I'm a Stay at home Mum. Because of the wage he earns (below a certain amount a year) here in the UK you can get such things as Working tax credits/Child Tax Credits etc. basically money off the government to help you along if your wage is shit, to help towards bills/food/basic living.
You can also get Child Benefit, which everyone is entitled to from the poor to millionaires (although this is changing to only people who earn X amount)
Does America have a system like this? Do you get help with Children and if you're suddenly not in work etc.?
Everyone complains that the UK is "too generous" because people can have a house where the rent is paid for them and can live a lifestyle without working.
How does it work with you?

. playing the system isnt really to your benefit that i know of at least. i mean you can cut some corners and get some help but as far as not working at all and living a semi decent life is impossible as far as i know.
