How did you manage to get your hands in this condition? I don't think that FFR/Stepmania and other rhythm games alone can do this much for your age/time played.

I have spent over a decade playing Stepmania, and I was doing pretty hard files back in 2002 or so. But it's a combination between Stepmania, FFR, cubing, writing, gaming, typing, drawing, blahblah. Lot of stress put upon the hands for a long period of time. Also used to play baseball, blahblahblah.

Stepmania/FFR alone does not warrant that kind of damage. Especially not the type of files you played

There are plenty of other activities that are way more stressful on the hands. Shoveling out big rocks stuck to the ground hurt a lot more than a 2 hour stamina session on stepmania

But putting that aside, I hope your hands get better

Personally I don't think Stepmania had anything to do with this particular injury because it's on my ring finger (which I don't use for SM/FFR/etc). The main damage from Stepmania lies in my wrists (and the backs of my hands). The ring finger thing I just don't really know. Assuming it's just a blunt force injury that grew and developed over time.

Yeah, I can also connect with that - my right ring and pinky fingers were messed up in terms of movement because I kept them in the same position for too long (having to do with how I positioned my hand on the mouse and not stretching/moving it after a while) and this continued on for about month, but then they got better after moving them a bit and realigning for a couple days. Stepmania had absolutely nothing to do with it - in fact, when I was an active stepmania player I was always stretching my ring and pinky fingers after every song so that actually prevented my ring and pinky fingers from being lazy.

It's funny - when I first started getting serious into rhythm gaming, I was feeling lots of pain in my wrists/fingers. Now, I don't get pain very often. I do get a sore feeling after over-exerting my fingers with ridiculous charts, but a very short break typically alleviates that.

That ring finger bump looks pretty bad - hope it gets removed without incident. Be careful with those hands, never know when you might need to come back and get some more FGO AAAs
