Re: Earthquake on the east coast.

That's because for you guys it's normal. Plus Cali and Japan are both built to withstand them better. Over here they're retarded and figured "oh well earthquakes don't really happen here" so they didn't construct buildings that can survive them. Don't need a huge magnitude here to cause some serious damage.

JX we get an earthquake that we can actually feel like once every couple of decades. That's how rare it is. Most people that were freaking out had never felt one in their life. I had never felt one before then.

Re: Earthquake on the east coast.

Earthquakes are quite different on the east coast compared to the west coast. In Calif., because of the highly fractured nature of the fault lines, earthquake energy does not spread very far. The energy also does not transfer across fault lines very well. But the northeast sits in the middle of the North American Plate, much of it on bedrock, so the entire region tends to vibrate as a single unit. Hence, the energy easily travels much farther distances. So although earthquakes are more frequent on the west coast, the damage can spread much farther on the east coast.

we keep getting earthquakes of 4.5+ where i live about 5 times a year+. Nothing special about it...
