I felt it in Michigan.

I was on the top floor of the building I work in in my office. I suddenly felt dizzy for a split second but then it quickly went away, the entire office started shaking lightly, and my chair was swaying back and forth by about 3 inches.

The first earthquake I've ever experienced, and I'm glad that I was far enough away that it wasn't all too terrible, but close enough to actually be able to say it was an earthquake.

The shaking lasted for about 20-30 seconds for me.

Apparently everyone in Rhode Island who isn't me felt it. I didn't notice a thing, I was also probably asleep when it happened. One of the pictures on the shelves in the living room had fallen over when I woke up though. MAJOR DRAMA


Somewhat related story: I was in Japan for no more than like 5 hours on my way to China a few years ago and there was an earthquake there like an hour after I landed, it was like a 4.8 quake so you could totally feel it but no damage at all. Nobody there even gave a shit, it's like oh look an earthquake just another day in Japan.

I'm in VA and I didn't feel it. I was outside at the time and the only clue I had were people hanging out in parking lots. Get to work and everyone not from the west coast it going "OMG EARFQUAK".

Damn it I wanna feel an earthquake. Last one that hit here was in the middle of the night six years ago. Put a nice big crack in the concrete of my driveway, but I slept right through it. ;_; Apparently the one before that was in 1993, so I was too young to realize wtf would even be going on.

Man, I'm so jelly. East coast gets all the fun.

I felt nothing. I'm too far away pretty sure. Amy woke me up telling me about it, and the magnitude and I was like.. eh, who cares. Just went back to sleep. I guess she was worried cause my family lives in VA but they're alright. No big deal. 5.9 or 6.0 is nothing to freak out over.

Everyone's like "people in the east are over reacting to this" Last I read the damage caused by that little quake was already up to 100 million. It may not have been a huge quake but we aren't built to withstand them out here. Which is stupid considering we live on one of the biggest fault lines.
