The 2011 Perseid meteor shower will peak on the night of Aug. 12 and into the morning of Aug. 13. Make plans to stay "up all night" since it is considered best of the year.

    Info, viewing locations, & meet-ups.

    EDIT:

not the best of viewing situations, hm? Apparently it's normal for it to coincide with a full moon?

No AJ, it is not always coinciding with a full moon.

Next year, it is predicted that the crescent moon will be waning as the night goes on that time.

While I have seen the Perseids in the past while being in Wasaga Beach at this time, my chances of seeing anything tonight are minimal, due to a full moon, deep city glow, and the chance of lingering clouds tonight. Maybe someone here will have the chance to shoot one of these on a camera, that would be awesome.

I'll be sure to set up my hammock and pull an all nighter for this one.

I saw a meteor rocket its way along Roosevelt Island (along the eastern river of Manhattan) last night sometime after midnight -- some friends and I were out on the back balcony having drinks and suddenly this bright mofo goes screaming by -- totally surprised us all
