The biggest notable difference between the stock 1ghz and 1.6ghz is the extreme responsiveness switching between screens and applications. No lag time, no waiting. If you tend to multi-task around a lot, it's almost a necessity. Plus I have a second battery that I keep in my car just in case.

Applications on phones aren't usually all too intensive, and probably won't take advantage of the speed increase aside from being a tad bit snappier.

Plus, keep in mind that the 1%/min rate is when the phone is at high load, so having a game running, navigation, watching youtube, and wifi hotspot all at once.

Yeah that is my number one complaint about the stock phones. I dislike the lag that comes with switching between screens, especially if I have a live wallpaper running. Overclocking seems to kill this pretty well, but I don't notice much boost in the apps themselves. This isn't a big deal to me, however.

For ultimate customizability you should check out: http://maemo.nokia.com/n900/

It runs off GNU/Linux, and feels like it. Easy access to a terminal and everything and can do ANYTHING a GNU/Linux system can do. It's actually based off Debian. You can install Apache2 on it and turn into a web server. It's also all open source so you can modify the source code itself and compile it and build the system again.

I own a Samsung Galaxy Indulge, and I was just thinking about rooting my phone, but then I realized I have no idea how to do that myself. Anyone care to tell me how? >_>

I have a Moto Droid 1. Currently using Liquid Gingerbread Mod. It's really good and helps my battery life. Lots of great settings. I don't overclock though because I'm scared of overheating.

I put stickers on my phone does that count?

I got my nexus s not too long ago so I'm enjoying stock for a bit before I go ahead and do anything to it. Though when I do end up Modding it I plan on going all out

There's going to be some heavy hitters coming out soon so like rubix said hold up! Though the G2x looks sexy and like not such a let down like the G2 was

I rooted my old original Moto Droid and decked it out with a sweet kernel and a nice kickass theme. I also got a leaked version of Froyo a couple weeks before it came out. But, one of the kernels I put on completely ****ed the phone app (no matter what kernel I used after that). Being the dumbass I was, the only restore point I had made was directly before I rooted my phone. I pretty much stopped with rooting (even now with my new Incredible 2), but I did enjoy the perks.

this is what happens when you walk to the bar.. drop your money.. run back and find your money.. then attempt to run back to the bar with your phone in your hoodie pocket:

edit: was rooted.. but the only plus was tethering :/

Just for grins, I charged my phone fully last night, unplugged it, turned the screen off, and went to bed. 8 hours later, it had only dropped 6% -- a rate of 0.75% battery drop per hour when undervolted, which isn't too bad!

Yeah, I am into this like crazy too. I just got the leaked .595 gingerbread installed and was installing a custom screen off animation (tv out one) and screwed up my phone yesreday. It got stuck in a bootloop and wouldn't load. So I then booted into recovery had to SBF with RSDlite back to froyo, then get .588 leak, and then .595 leak finally. So bascially after all this, I am back to where I was before I stupidly decided to install something that does nto work.

Droid X2 system sounds are nice (yay for leaks)!

This sig has been enhanced by the FFR Staff for being too large. Thank you for participating.

I usually find that I only experience bootloops when I fail to clear the cache before doing any serious flashing/installations.
