Ever had 4 or more interviews for one job?

I mean seriously, how long does it take someone to figure out if your right for a job?

I applied online for a part time sales clerk position at a national grocery chain near my house.

They got back to me 5 days later, which is somewhat below average (although i did apply on a saturday.) They gave me an over the phone interview with a HR rep that handles employment for several different stores.

They called me back a week later and told me they would like to schedule me for an interview. They do group interviews (not multiple interviewers, multiple canidates. There were 10 people there, interviewing for different locations, not just mine.)

There were three people doing the group interview, not one of which was my HR rep. She called me back 8 days later saying she had completly forgot about me and wanted to have me in for a 1:1 interview. I said ok.

Third interview was with the head of the bakery department at my store (this was one of the 3 options that i was trying to get all along.) the interview lasted less than a half hour and i felt it went well. The guy told me i was competing with one other person.

They call me back 4 days later saying they gave the job to someone else but asked if i would be interested in a position elswhere. I complied and had my 4th interview today. Literally 2 questions. took 10 minutes. I FINALLY got to meet the person in HR that i had been talking to over the phone 3 weeks ago in person. I took a drug test and they ordered a background check and said they would let me know in a couple days.

Before this I have never had more than 1 interview for what seems like an entry level job (they offered me 80 cents above minimum wage). Has anyone else had this happen?

I had 3 interviews before getting my job at Z-Line, but that is a higher end technical job so it's understandable. For a grocery store it's a bit ridiculous...but at least they didn't just shut you out once they gave the other guy the job, so I guess be thankful for that.

For most tougher jobs, three interviews is pretty common (my current job required three interviews plus a project).

Needing that many interviews, though, for a clerk position is pretty retarded. But like DS said, at least they're offering other positions, so not all is lost.

True, this would totally suck. At least you got something after all of that.

For my job as a secretary I had 4 interviews. Although one was just to pick up papers for a drug test so idk if you wanna count that or not.
For my second job I only had one. Idk dude, but a job is a job. Do what you've gotta do to snag it. :P

Especially if you're applying to be a Manager. In that case, you'll be interviewing with the HR to start, then the GM then the DM. Sometimes you'll get interviewed by the VP.

I remember getting interviewed by someone in HR then it went to the GM then to the VP. I applied to Buc-ee's, but didn't get the job. I wasn't surprised. They called the company I used to work for for a reference: when you call in, it would go straight to a voice messaging system, so I got f***ed there.

edit: Most interviews I've had for a single job was 2, sometimes 3.

Its hard to not accept a job sometimes in these times, but hell man. Thats awful. I give it a month before you hate this position. Any place that forces you to take drug tests in just the interview is really a crap place to work.

Of course, thats easier said. I had to bike seven miles all last winter to get to my job because it was the only one I could take. At least I didn't have to wear a uniform or pee in a cup.

Only one interview 8) But the current job I have now took way too much time to start me up. I had the interview last month, and my first day was two days ago. But apparently being a janitor for your local REC center makes you a government employee.

Edit: Oh yeah, wasn't drug tested either. lol.

Two at most, and the first was to tell me I needed to get a criminal/health check. There's no reason there should be so many interviews.

I see no real problem with it. Hiring someone is an investment that costs money to the employer.

Standard shit these days. I agree though, it feels like they just dont know what there doing. The HR rep gave me 3 options from the begining: Cashier (too fast paced for me), deli (not a big meat fan), and Bakery (how easy does that sound?). Then after having 3 interviews for the position they told me they selected someone else but they were still interested in me and offered me new positions: cashier again, or starbucks. I love coffee so i said starbucks and they told me a district HR rep would be in contact with me. He called 10 mins later saying the position at starbucks was already filled (bullshit?) and he had a spot open in prepared foods."

After being assured that i didnt have to be a chef, he told me i "might" be able to work my way over to the starbucks. So yeah, basically not where i want to be working.

And i didnt have to pee in a cup. it was oral, get you check wet with soliva and soak it onto a sponge. Pretty much just have to lay off the coke or meth for a few days.

The grocery store literally accross the street offered me more hours, more pay, and lasted only 1 interview. She called late last night and offered me a job there.

Better! Yes sometimes places stop treating their employees like human beings and more like cattle. They're the companies that become absolute dictators about hours and demand 'company loyalty' despite them doing nothing to earn such loyalty.

The job I was mentioning was at Bon Ton, a slightly higher-end women's clothes place. It involved waking up at 5 am to bike, do monotonous physical labor, then bike home. Backbreaking job to do in the middle of going to college. Still, the HR rep was amazingly nice and my direct managers were extremely flexible in hours, willing to bend if I had tests or even let me out early a few instances so I could go back and finish up a project. In turn, I showed up on time, did my crappy job, and didn't complain.
