Took my easy as piss sociology 101 final on Monday
no final in Visual Basic, especially cuz I got a solid A in that class
Got a B on my final 10 page paper on technology piracy in English Comp 2
Calculus 2 final on Thursday, yikes.

Being a freshman is pretty easy I guess

Re: Complain about finals - Spring 2011 edition

I'm already done my finals and I have my marks, but here's how it went:

April 13th: Latin II - the final was a breeze
April 18th: Calculus II - also a breeze
April 25th, morning: Ancient Greek & Roman History - a lot of writing, but the final wasn't too bad
April 25th, afternoon: Statistics - the calculations were absolute hell (what is the point of making me manually calculate the standard deviation of 27 values when you could test my knowledge on that particular subject with a significantly smaller set of data) but I still ****ed that bitch up
April 26th: Linear Algebra I - simple final and I ended with 100 in the class

The worst part about my final schedule was that week long break, only to face 3 finals in 2 days. I could have nicely split up the time but instead I chose to procrastinate because I didn't feel like studying, or I was studying in between shifts at work.

So glad I have 4 months to piss away now.

      Average this semester: 93

Best of luck to everyone who still has to write their finals.

It's a lot easier to write 8,000 words when it's not a requirement. 8K was just what it took for me to explain the things I needed to in my paper.

8k words is like what, 27-30 pages without figures (double spaced)? It actually seems on the shorter side, at least for what people at my school submit for their theses...

Re: Complain about finals - Spring 2011 edition

It's not a thesis, just to be clear (i.e. not for a Master's degree). It's more like a very extended lab write up. It has 20 figures and 50 equations in it.

I'm not sure what it would come out to double spaced since my format is 10 pt, single spaced (absolutely horrible, I know, but that's what they want).

              EDIT:
These are called "senior projects" or "senior theses;" they are generally done in the senior year near graduation after having completed other courses, the independent study period, and the internship and/or student teaching period (the completion of most of the requirements before the writing of the paper ensures adequate knowledge and aptitude for the challenge). Unlike a dissertation or master's thesis, they are not as long, they do not require a novel contribution to knowledge, or even a very narrow focus on a set subtopic. Like them, they can be lengthy and require months of work, they require supervision by at least one professor adviser, they must be focused on a certain area of knowledge, and they must use an appreciable amount of scholarly citations.
This explains it very well (outside of the contribution to knowledge part - my paper is on the cutting edge of picosatellite attitude control and dynamics).

I have two very simple finals left. Problem is, I've studied none at all..

Pff. People worryin', not worryin' about finals. I don't really get that luxury since all I can worry about is my Level A. It's a single audition to justify/re-justify that I (and everyone at my school, since everyone does have to pass their Level A) still should be allowed to attend. Pass/Fail scenario, though you get 2 shots if you fail a section. Try again the next semester and fail? You're out of the school. Only thing I'm actually worried about is the technical requirements.. I hate scales. o.o

Besides that, I do have 2 academic finals and 2 other music course finals the week following this.. Two of them are 8AM as well.

I have Number Theory tomorrow at noon, Differential equations at 8 am the next day, and my French exam at 12:30 the next day (on a Saturday since I don't want to go home on the last day of finals).

On top of this, I have a 10-pg essay due next week for sociology and I haven't started, but I've spent a lot of my time planning on what to mention in my essay.

                        Grade-wise, I slacked overall so I'm expecting A's and B's.

Currently studying for French at this very moment.

A thesis paper should be about 30 pages, right?
I just finished my final English Comp essay the other day, 4.5k words, 13 pages long (double spaced.) I can guarantee if I weren't so interested in my topic, I wouldn't have even come close.

The latest I've ever procrastinated with a 5,000-word essay (history class in HS) was waiting until 2 days before it was due when we had a month to write it -- was totally unfun.
