Speedtests mean absolutely nothing.

Last night I noticed a MASSIVE jump in speed as well, Hentai. Normally I download in the 180-200kb/s range, but on a torrent I started last night, I was downloading at over 10x that rate 2.5mb/s, but when I went and started a normal HTTP download, it was going at its normal 180-200 rate again.

Your speed might have also picked up because less people were using the connection, but they may just be renting more bandwidth.

How? Of course your speed will change depending on how much traffic there is on your line but you'll still find out how fast your speeds will be at that specific point in time.
